Capto Iugulum

I think that in practice only a handful of players will update the wiki. However, when the NES "consolidates" as it is about to do, having a wiki and updating it from time to time will likely be more practical than creating a whole new background thread. It certainly can't replace the threads. But it does make a good place to keep things together, like updates.

I rather would like the idea for a wiki for this NES, since as a newcomer it's a bit hard to tell what bits of history have gone on and what else has happened in the past four thousand or so posts (I wish I had the time to do so, but I fear that I have to balance and juggle quite a few things and other NES's as well.) Keeping all the information in a condensed bundle would help out a lot and would be interesting to witness.

Ah, that reminds me of one thing that I missed from what's coming. I'm also going to include an Adobe Reader/Word document which contains all of the formatted updates, minus OOC and the Diplomatic Pouch. Other good news, if you have the proper software, you can even read updates in this style on your Kindle (tested and it works!)

Not bad, reminds me of pages that I used to send with information to some friends of mine via Google documents and such, will be handy if I have to be on the go at any point in time. :)

A wiki would be incredibly useful, especially since as a newcomer you can be pretty lost in about 90 years of history at this stage.

However, what we do need is a single big page which outlines a brief history of the world from 1830, which might be long, but doable, considering that somebody new to the game isn't going to want to slog through 1000 wiki pages.

If Germany is willing to sign the peace treaty then so are we, but as we have yet to really enter the war we will leave the decision up to our ally who has.

I'll wait out the few days so i can file orders, might still do some diplomatic things and posts to get contacts :)

As I am now Turkey, please send any recent diplomacy to my inbox just so I know what's been going on.

Reasonable, EQ. Still will be around, even though my beloved United States is no longer around (the Second Union doesn't count, Azale). I will rise again, though! This I swear!

In terms of background, rather than a thread, perhaps we should revisit the idea of a wiki? That was used in one of your earlier NESing attempts, and is still in use by N3S to good effect. I know that I could probably write a lot of articles for North America and a lot of the characters there (President Scott, President Wareing, even Negro Proletarist Frederick Douglass). It would also be easier to keep maintained than a constant series of background threads, and would likely be easier to read.

Also would be a great place to keep a compendium of the stories posted here.
N3S' wiki has suffered badly from vandalism by webcrawlers, and by disgruntled players.
agreed. Smaller NESes have wikis yet this one doesn't.
Which ones?

Also thanks for the compliments EQ! I'll get to work on a post outlining the changes in Vinland over the last two decades.

TerraNES has one.

Random vandalism is quite definitely one of my concerns for a wiki for the NES. While may have the time to keep things together for now, I certainly won't for the whole duration of the NES. A thread on these forums however, cannot be vandalized, and is far more centrally located. As I learned in my previous wiki attempt, there's a lot which would have to be done and maintained, hence why I am instead simply leaning towards a Word document, which could be searched easily in any of the latest Microsoft Word programs. Similarly, a thread with up to date nation backgrounds, and perhaps even the latest treaties, would be more then ample to provide the needed background to any new player.

So, for the backgrounds would we write them? And, would they be our entire history (like from the beginning of the NES? (or only from 1900)

With Italy and Germany's acceptance of peace, we invite the nations of the world to Spain this year to monitor the 1919 elections for fairness and accountability.

In particular, we invite representatives from Italy, Argentina and the Netherlands, as representatives of all major blocs involved in the war, to Spain to monitor elections.
