Rate your cars

Just one rule: you must have owned the car. Other wise I could rate some sports car I've never seen, let alone driven. Factors in order of importance:

  • Fanny magnetism
  • Power
  • Handling
  • Drive

The cars I have owned

Austin Mini 1989

BeigeMini.jpg

Similar colour to this one, though less shiny. And smooth. And non-rusty. Excellent car, roomy inside fun to drive though folds up in a crash, apparently.

Fanny magnetism-8/10 chicks think its cute/cool
Power 8/10 - excellent power for the size of the car 1 litre
Handling 9/10 corners at speed, stays on the ground
ride 2/10 - really bumpy!
Build kwality 5/10 – two words BRITISH LEYLAND

Total 32 /40

Interesting fact: Austin and British Leyland never made a profit on the Mini!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CITROEN BX

bxgti_fr.jpg

Fanny magnetism- Null Points. As much pulling power as a shoe-box.
Power 5 /10 – don’t remember the engine size. Don’t remember overtaking anyone either
Handling 5/10 slightly wallowy due to hydraulic suspension
ride 10/10 really smooth due to hydraulic suspension I guess the roads are full of holes en Francais
build kwality 4/10 – all the plastic trim kept falling off and the plastic bonnet faded.

Total 24 /40

Interesting fact: did I mention it has hydraulic suspension?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RENAULT 9

82R9.jpg

Fanny magnetism- 1/10 it looks like a car, so I have to give it one point
Power 5 /10 –
Handling 7/10 actually quite good, I thought
Ride 8/10 Good, Speed bumps over 40 MPH really broke in the suspension
Build kwality 6/10 – Meh, okay. Very rusty above the wheel arches, which looked uncool

Total 27 /40

Interesting fact: won car of the year in 1983!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ford Capri Laser 1980’s

25e3_1.jpg

Mine was red, but rusty like this too! It didn’t fire a laser sadly

Fanny magnetism- 8/10 chicks can’t tell the difference between this an a real sports car. Cover your tracks later!
Power 5 /10 – open the bonnet and there was a stupid little 1.2 engine in there
Handling 1/10 Crap, like a barge on roller-skates
Ride 5/10 - didn’t notice so it must have been okay
Build kwality 6/10 – Really easy to fix, it took me 30 minutes to change the starter motor.

Total 24 /40

Interesting fact: designed to be a European version of the Mustang, Ford wanted to call it the Colt, but Mitsubishi had the name first.

Rover 213

rover_213.jpg

Mine was red, but rusty like this too! It didn’t fire a laser sadly

Fanny magnetism- Only if you want to pick up older chicks. Much older
Power 3 /10 – Automatic gearbox, small engine, overtaking became a brown trouser ride on single carriageways.
Handling 5/10
Ride 5/10 - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Build kwality 6/10 – Rovers Honda partnership phase, so okay. It had walnut veneer. Mmmmm

Total 19 /40

Interesting fact: None

89 Buick Century Limited, Black 6 cyl
1G4AG55MXS6492055-1.JPG

*photo not of actual car owned*

FM - 1 - It's a Buick ! Not else needs to be said, and the score reflects it. :p
Power - 8 - 6 cylinders, and the car would accelerate without even touching the gas peddle. I could chirp the tires with relative ease. The car wanted to go, whether or not the driver wanted to, and it did. Car also exhibited acceleration tendencies when pressing on the brake ! :crazyeye:
Handling - 3 - Car loved to go in a straight line. Took turns like a battleship.
Drive - 6 - Easy car to drive, was roomy and comfy. Just don't make high speed turns in it.
Build Quality - 4 - I bought the car used, and put quite a bit of money in it to keep it running. The car was built like a tank though, and is why it got a 4 rating from me. It's always nice to know that if another car crashes into you, it's the other car that will be the one towed away and need major body work, not yours.

97 Nissan Maxima GXE, 6cyl Tan
783043.jpeg

*photo not of actual car owned*

FM - 7 - Luxurious, smooth ride, everything a lady would want out of her man's vehicle..
Power - 7 - 6 cylinders, the car moved well, and had solid acceleration at high speeds. Was a bit on the heavy side, so from a dig, it wasn't all that quick.
Handling - 6 - Drove like a boat. A very smooth one though.
Drive - 8 - A pleasure to drive. Comfy, smooth, and just enough power to keep one happy.
Build Quality - 9 - I put very little money into the car, besides basic maintenance, and I beat the crap out of it. And the car kept on coming back looking for more.

05 Nissan Sentra SER - 2.5L 4 cylinder, blackout
ser.jpg

FM - 4 - Despite being kept in mint condition, it's still just a Sentra, just one with a bigger engine and a few sports upgrades.
Power - 7 - Great torque down low, providing for a nice pull from a dig. Lacks top end power, and the car struggles to accelerate quickly once above 60MPH.
Handling - 9 - It doesn't quite feel like it's running on rails, but it's close. Very tight steering, very little body roll, makes for high speed turning fun !
Drive - 7 - stiff suspension makes for a rocky ride on bad roads. Otherwise, it's a fun car to drive on nice paved roads, especially roads with lots of curves.
Build Quality - 4 - This generation of SE-R's have been known to :
a)suck in butterfly screws into the engine, destroying the #1 cylinder (the screws need to be loctited)
b)precat breaking apart, and getting sucked into the engine (supposedly fixed by an ECU reprogram. The real fix is to get a header with no precat)
c)assorted rattles, slow power windows
I haven't run into these known problems (yet), but already my keyless remote entry doesn't work properly. Nissan's build quality has been known to be declining in the past few years, especially their lower end models.

Great post marioh- cool cars, the Buick looks kinda boxy, sounds like it too i guess. That's a pretty huge design flaw on the Nissan, I'll avoid those if it comes to it ;-)

First car I owned was a 1984 black mercury capri.

capri.jpg

0/10 chick magnet
2/10 power ..... 4 speed standard with no torque
5/10 handling .... rear wheel drive cars suck in winter
4/10 driving fun ....... it was a peice of crap car that I bought to get to work.

01accent.jpg

After that I owned 2 2001 Hyundai Accents 1 got totaled and the other one Im still driving

1/10 chick magnet ...... small compact car with no personality
4/10 power ..... cant race with a 80 HP engine
8/10 handling ... that car does stick to the road
6/10 driving fun ..... its a tank when plowing snowbanks and a front wheel drive is the best in snow covered roads!

This is the one and only car that I've owned so far. I bought it when I moved to the States :)

1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse
1105-4A3AX35GXXE092848-1-THUMB.jpg

5/10 chick magnet ...... I guess. It's an old car and I seldom wash it, but hey it's a convertible baby!
7/10 power ..... It's not the GS-T but it still packs punch - more than enough for the daily commute :)
8/10 handling ....... the low body makes it easier to take curves. Apparently it's not very stable on snow or wet roads, but did I mention I live in California? :D
8/10 Driving fun ....... It is fun to drive. Though at 6'5 I might be a bit too tall to fully enjoy it :)

My first car was an inherited old Renault 18 (very solid car):
renault18turbo-ouverture.jpg

Fanny magnetism 0/10 (mine was the wagon version so it looks even worse. It was useful some times though :mischief: )
Power 2/10 (only about 75HP for 1700 kg)
Handling 4/10 (nice, but brakes were a bit weak since the first day)
ride 2/10 (old car, not air conditioning, nothing)
Build kwality 8/10 - interiors a bit crappy but the engine is a rock (25 years of daily use and still working just well)

Currently i have a couple of cars:

Citroen C4 HDI 110 for daily use and long trips.
citroen-c4.jpg

Fanny magnetism-5/10 (it is really nice though, mine is similar to the pic in everything the coupe version looks even better)
Power 7/10 (only 110 hp but for a 1.6 diesel that is more than enough, a lot of torque, it accelerates really quick)
Handling 6/10 (not too funny but safe with electronic stability system)
ride 8/10 (very complete with lots of electronic stuff)
Build kwality 6/10 (too new to comment i would say it is fair)

And a Seat Leon Cupra with some modifications for fun (270 HP and only 1200 kg) :D
4b455f44_b_3_leoncupra06.jpg

Fanny magnetism-9/10 (Mine is yellow as the one in the pic, the noise is impressive too, so you can imagine)
Power 10/10 (2.0 V6 with a slighty modified Turbo the thing is a beast but cosumption is a bit high)
Handling 9/10 (funny obviously)
ride 6/10 (it is a very sporty car, so suspentions are maybe a bit too hard and results noisy. Not good for long trips)
Build kwality 7/10 (fairly good materials but spartan)

First car, 1979 Ford Thunderbird.
http://www.murrayco.com/1979_thunderbird_town_landau.html
Chick magnet: 1/10 only because mine was rusted and had a huge dent in the side. If it was restored like seen in the photo the score would be quite a bit higher.
Power: 9/10 V8 engine, but a huge gas hog.
Handling/drive: 2/10 I hated trying to parallel park this beast.

1987 Plymouth Colt w/turbo charger
Can't find any pictures of this, but this '86 looks close to what I remember.
http://msrecycling.com/carpages/053086.htm
Chick magnet: 1/10 I guess. No real personality in it, just a compact car.
Power: 4/10 4 cylinder stick shift with turbo charger, so wasn't fast, but a little faster than expected.
Handling/drive: 4/10 Great for city driving, but that may be because I was used to the huge 'boat' I was driving before.

'93 Geo Metro
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i119/jenniferpark93/Red_1999_Chevrolet_Metro.jpg
Chick magnet: 2/10 "Awww. that looks so cute!" Other than the cute factor of being so small it doesn't impress anyone.
Power: 0.5/10 Three cylinder engine!
Handling/drive: 6/10 More comfortable than it looks. Parking is a breeze. Only vehicle I had with rear window wipers. But I wouldn't want to get in an accident with this.

'97 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup
http://www.bc4x4.com/album/mark-blom.jpg
The one I have is actually a 2x4, not a 4x4.
Chick magnet: 6/10 Considerably more impressive than the other vehicles I have owned.
Power: 6/10 V6 engine.
Handling/drive: 7/10

80 something Suzuki samurai
Bubba_87SuzSam_RR.jpg

My first car. Though, I hesitate to call it a REAL car. It was more like a toy. My friends joked it was a pregnant roller skate.

Fanny magnetism - 7/10 it was really fun, but gave you the feeling you could die at any moment
Power - 1/10 it was REALLY slow. I literally floored it the whole time
Handling - 1/10 Though fun off road you we afraid it would tip over

* Handling- 9/10 for how old it is it has excellent handleing
* Drive- 9/10 again for how old it is it has an easy ride

Great posts guys, thanks for posting :goodjob:

I'm completly amazed at the design of these huge square cars from the 70s/80s. Actually I'm quite suprised they don't have square steering wheels. ;) Seriously though, how do you haul them around, they all have power steering I guess...

I must confess to really wanting to drive one though, and imagine I'm in a 70s cop show with wacky-wacky guitar music in the background.

My 72 nova had power stering but manual unassisted 4 wheel drum brakes. !

Looks so cool though. That tercel looks awful. Did you go bankrupt or something? Did it have nasty plastic seats?

I got it from my grandmothers estate when she passed. Free and good on milage but just a pathetic car.

My 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland
  • Fanny magnetism: Eh, probably 7/10. It's a nice vehicle and since I'm in my 30s, the fact that it could also hold a couple of kids is probably a big plus.
  • Power: 7/10. It's not a hemi, but it'll muscle through pretty much anything I want to get through, and I can tow at least 6500 lbs with it.
  • Handling: 7/10. It has a bit of sway in corners, but I plan to rectify that this summer with a reinforced sway bar.
  • Drive: 9/10. It's a lovely vehicle to drive. Rides and drives better than any SUV (true SUV) that I've ever driven. Loses one point simply because it is indeed an SUV and could never hope to compete with the freeway cruisers in sheer ride comfort.
