Casey Anthony found Not Guilty

Well true, all the lies and cover ups don't necessarily mean she's guilty. She could instead just be deeply, deeply stupid.

If I were in her shoes, I would bank money while the banking is good (I hear the networks are offering nice payouts for interviews). Ordinary employment is going to be a challenge so she needs to get ahead of the curve. She may be able to marry her way out of financial difficulty too.

Yeah, I heard Kevin Federline is available again. Though inasmuch as he seems to give a damn about whether his children live or die, they probably are not compatible.

She probably has some psychological issues regardless(partying while your daughter just died?). If Caylee did drown though there'd be a pretty good reason to freak out and do stupid crap. Both from grief and from fear of being hated as "that terrible irresponsible mother."

She died 3 years ago.

After reading through the case I pretty much agree with the jury here. I have no idea what happened to Caylee, but it isn't certain that she was killed by her mom. The thought of it still scares me though. Top 3 nightmares right there.
Sorry, that was written poorly. My question is, would we be so outraged if she was killed a month before birth?

She was almost 3 years old. That's not really a relevant comparison. If we were talking about the death of an infant that would be another story.

an inconvenient truth

So, can someone explain to me why this case got so big? I mean, yeah, it involved a mother allegedly murdering her child, but that's made news before...just never to this degree.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, certain pundits (Nancy Grace) made a big deal out of it for whatever reason.

That, and the fact that the girl was "missing" for awhile and then found dead also got more media coverage than had she just been killed.

White people were the victims and brown people were accused. That's why it made the headlines.

please. I know people are so quick to cry racism, but this case had nothing to do with it. The nanny story was quickly debunked.

Nancy Grace is the reason this story was so big. And generally, mothers killing their babies is always big news.

The primary reason it became as big a story as it was, in my opinion, is that the child's death was so unclear, the Mother acted so strangely, and there was always something new and odd to talk about. Parents murder their children all of the time, yes, but not like this.

It has nothing to do with the CSI effect; IF JR's summation of the evidence was correct, then tthe jury were quite right in acquitting, as the prosecution never proved guilt "beyond reasonable doubt" (or indeed, much doubt at all), and definitely not any kind of mens rea to prove actual murder.

In the UK, the judge would probably have directed the jury to acquit.

Women almost never murder their children. The other cases were very big in the media as well. It's just in those cases it was an open and shut case. This one involved a trial and was rather lengthy. Men murder their kids all the time, but women almost never (more abandon their children but that's different than murdering)

I'm okay with Anthony getting off, the only thing I wish they could do to these kinds of mothers is forced sterilization.

Justice prevailed once again. In this country, a person is supposed to be presumed to be innocent until shown beyond reasonable doubt that they guilty of a crime. This naturally incenses television pundits like Nancy Grace who frequently rush to judgement without knowing the facts, as she also did in the Duke Lacrosse case.

I think it's kind of silly comparing this to the Duke Lacrosse case. Casey is about as innocent of murder as O.J. Simpson.

You are quick to judge, given the lack of evidence. You cannot judge based on personal "feelings" or the behavior of the defendant. Her behavior and dysfunction were not on trial.

There was simply no evidence of her committing a murder. There's plenty of evidence of her being a pathological liar, possibly mentally disturbed, and definitely dysfunctional, but those do not a murder conviction make.

It would have been bad if the jury convicted her. That would have been a failure of the system, and yes the system does fail. There's lots of convicted prisoners who are actually innocent, and occasionally we hear of new DNA evidence that exonerates one of them. Our system is not foolproof, but man, if they convicted her with the "evidence" presented, that would have been a total fail - murderer or not.
