Caveman 2 Cosmos (ideas/discussions thread)

One of my suggestions is to make it cost espionage points to kidnap/enslave/kill worker units. I should not have to escort every single one.

Make it so that a civilization can have only one rogue or thief at a time. Non-player civs are spending too much on espionage and not enough on research or building buildings.

In another vein:

When a non-player civ founds his first city, give him all the animals he needs right then. I'm talking about herds of mammoths and all the other animals he can have access to in the beginning. The NPC civs are *slow* to advance, and this would help.

When a NPC civ achieves Oral Tradition then the capital gets the myths automatically. Those will generate a big boost in research.

I intend to do just this next time I start a game and see what happens.

I think tweaking the AI unit promotion choises would be a good idea. It seems that most AI units have promotions like barbar hunter, arctic combat I-III, etc.. The problem is that they rarely can make use of those promotion in the battlefield so it actually weakens their army.

@Koshling/AIAndy/DH:

Do you'll think that the re-caluations is having to do with the lack of AI pop going on? cause i am still having Barbarian cities at POP 1 after 1500 turns??

Regarding todays SVN changes: Why does a Compass need Clockworks?
I am also sceptical about Ancient Ballistics needing Ship Building , but at least there is a historical conenction in this case.

Which recalculations? ARe you seeing barb cities at pop one that have been there for 1500 turns, or just 1500 turns ino the game? (in which case when were they founded? - barb cities don't start to get founded until some considerable time after the start)

I have a suggestion regarding the tech tree calculations/estimates:

if you klick on a tech thats not researchable yet but within 3 steps or so, does it show the turns it will need including the turns of the techs that have to be researched first? I always thought it were just the turns that far away tech would need if you could research it right away.

So if you want mathematics and have 2 other techs before those research estimates were added to the time mathematics would take as well and then be shown as an estimate (for example: tech 1= 10 turns, tech 2= 15 turns, mathemathics = 20 turns -->techtree estimate if clicked on mathemathics=45turns).

I saw this feature in Shogun2 and think it would be nice to have in civ as well (as the some of the map and UI graphics )

You see it explained at 8:10

At 19:00 there is another interesting feature that could be adapted for C2C, once we would have a heritage/political leader feature:
not only you could have individual personalities (traits per leader), no you also could shape them
so the final feature could be named:
'personal and shapeable traits for royalty, political and religious leaders and recruteable minions'

(the mercenaries system might be reactivated for that, especially for the minions, I reflect... it would also extend the warlord/.../vice king/ chain with civil counterparts [think of ministers high priests etc] and could give a broader list of civil achievements to the heroes. -- what about some mercenary heroes, btw. you could loan them to other Civs or rent them from them. I seldomly get heroes when playing on high difficulty so I would request them while other have so many they would loan them --> so every playertype would love it^^)

I have to say, I'm not a huge fan of spies being able to Bribe capital cities. As a king/dictator, that displeases me.. IS the spy bribing the mayor? Cuase thats still me. :p
imo captals should be immune to bribe.

I agree with this, the spy in my Capitol is not going to be bribing me, the supreme leader, into giving him anything.

turn off advanced espionage its completely unbalanced, 4k espionage points for a size 60 city late game is ridiculous.. i've said it in another thread but here is your warning :)

I vastly enjoy the other options in Advanced Esp, I'm just trying to think of ways to help balance it, No Capital Bribing is something that would help quite a bit... The other things I haven't dealth with much. But I love sending in my terroist spies to nuke em lol.

HUH, i always play with Advanced Esp on?

was talking about it here but basically city nuking and bribing never scale. It has a base cost of 4500 espionage points but will remain this forever, the only thing affecting this price is espionage bonuses/defense. Typically its gonna cost you under 10k over 5k i'd say but then you get the -50% prep bonus..
So what, thats alot of spy points you may say. WRONG! :) You can easily get 10k spy points per turn later on. Just make your hero units spies in 1 city, and then when you ready go 100% spy economy and you will easily get 10,000 spy points per turn.

Once you bribe a city its easy to alt-g or whatever it is to delete all the building, or have a transport with troops ready to raze it, or ever gift it to one of your enemies friends.

I went in and increased the costs for basic Espionage missions as I feel the costs don't scale enough in comparison to how much espionage points one can get.
Hammer cost for a unit, research points for a tech; not enough when EP's are a lot easier to come by with all the + EP buildings and Heroes that can boost EP.
Espionage should be something one works more actively on to get the numbers needed for serious missions, like sending units to gather EP's against an enemy, and not something that comes naturally and way too easily.

Cheers

Very open to changing the way missions costs scale, but I doubt an across-the-bvoard linear increase is the right answer. Later today I'll look into how they are scaled now (game speed, etc.) and we can debate the right way to go from there.

OK guys, with all the NEW stuff being introduced, could someone "pls" fill me in on what these are, i understand the 1st one, that's Crime, but the others??

Those other ones are for the new Nomad Camp Demo by AIAndy. Do you have that enabled in the MLF?
