Caveman 2 Cosmos (ideas/discussions thread)

Yes. I think it is properly called Space Scenario with Space maps. Earth is still a random continents map, but Space is pre-set. Right now, I have 327 cities, and I am melting down financially. I rush-bought too many things and didn't focus enough on building money-producing buildings. I am on turn 10459 or 52.3% of an Eternity settler game. On my next game, I will play Chieftan and try to be sure I get the Earth Pangaea map. I will put off wiping out at least 1 or 2 opposition civilizations so I can keep someone to trade with. I will tinker with the other options on setup, but I no longer like to choose random events because of the killer flu that kills off 3 out of 4 population cities, and also has IMHO too many fires. I am still having loads of fun and my goal is always not just to win but to research ALL of the technologies and put a Space colony or city as close to the center of the Universe as possible. I have also been freezing up quite a bit because of the limits of what my computer can do with this game.
hey, I did some games in nightmare eternity, one of them was until transcendent era, maybe you could find some info how to avoid too much expenses https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/snofru-space-map-v9-large-nightmare-eternity.674676/

about speeding up production, it causes inflation which can be a huge problem because it increases all costs multiplicatively, I try to avoid it altogether (which means keeping it at 0-1% or at most like 5%, tracking what is current value every time before speeding up, and only using it for major wonders, so that rate of turns saved to inflation is the best), now that it's too late I would consider changing all the civics to ones that reduce maintenance from number of cities and overseas kolonies (largest source), and also look at value "civic upkeep", build things that are reducing maintenance directly like (if I remember correctly) palace of soviets or giant firewall? keep crime and disease low, also some civics have direct negative modifiers to inflation (was it gold standard or planned/regulated economy?) while some others have positive (guilds or mercantile, not sure)

soon I might start another game, hopefully svn still works, so you can maybe ask me. Turn times can become problematic in later game, my pc can handle it well until around cosmic, at this point it becomes few minutes per turn:P still so much better than it was some years ago, I remember these large turn times already happening on medieval era, maybe that's why there was someone calling the mod "caveman2castles"

Thanks, Tramwajg!! I thought during a lot of the game that I had runaway gold and got too cocky about Rush-buying lots of Wonders and Science producing buildings. Now playing in the Prehistoric Era of a Chieftain difficulty Eons speed with Random Events game.

I may start a new one soon, I reached transcendent era, here save, AIs seem to be doing not bad too, the strongest one is in industrial era, which is further than last time when I played. I opened yours, seems like it's quite far ahead of AIs, I would maybe build cities more densely, although that may backfire by causing huge maintenance costs, in my current game I occasionally was in situation that I overextended, and had to reduce science expenses by too much

I see there was an update on SVN in the last couple of days (version 11642). Are there any fix log entries for this update?

I posted the update notes in the SVN thread today for 11642

But sviijc did not add my Coinage Civic fix. :P

Do you by any chance work in IT or social media? Because this describes my experience with the field to a tee.
Yes, SM and website marketing.
Calling the workers of nations that are the receivers of offshoring "slave minded" is cruel but accurate, I honestly don't understand how those people can work so hard and not go completely insane, I find it inhuman but admirable.
yeah, it's a frustration expression - I really do respect them except that they often are very unreliable. They aren't working hard for nothing - the value of a dollar is about 100-1 there-here.

Wouldn't really call that socialism but fair enough.
Which is why we are struggling in this country to get anything for people because we can't agree on the meaning of this basic term, not only within our nation but globally. And the confusion around it is something I try to clarify regularly. In the states, if we are calling for socialism, we are calling for the government to put funding into programs that benefit people rather than expecting private corporations to be subsidized. Politically that's ALL it means here. It's not the global movement to kill all landlords or any weirdness, it's simply support for more than military being what government is responsible for - BECAUSE so many profit motivated efforts go wrong by being profit motivated (including private non-profit so to speak companies). One should join us further on the discord for those kinds of chats though.

Thanks for the comments btw.

Raxo was always good on keeping those up so I think most since have forgotten the practice. Thanks for updating Joseph! Let them know about the Coinage fix... not sure who sviijic is.

I misspelled the modder's username Thunderbrd. (scvijic) I had left the em from Discord and did not have it copied down & pasted. Tried to remember the username but flubbed it up! :P Not perfect anymore @73 But still trying & kicking! ;)

Corrected now. :)

Whomever can get someone from Discord to add this file to the next SVN update will help a bunch in Fixing some old Civic Currency omissions. Toffer90 was reducing segments that had 0 value for a line or section like YieldModifiers etc. I did not catch his changes the last time I updated the CivisInfos.xml. When I found my old notebook with the changes i realized that several in Currency were Not completed.

The file below is the updated xml with the proper corrections.

To the Players that come here you can d/l this file and replace the current file (last SVN 11642) with this one to play the corrections made.

tramwajg I think my goals when it comes to C2C are different than most other C2C players. I really like winning, but I love discovering and colonizing as much of the map as possible and discovering All of the technologies as possible. I would rather win at playing a very long game than lose in a short game. The highest difficulty I have ever played is Prince and I lost that one badly. That is why I usually play at Warlord or less, and sometimes Settler, when I hear that there have been many changes in the latest SVN. I still lose a game every once in a while, by getting massacred by Barbarians or Neanderthals. I like to build Science and Culture more than lots of defensive units. My current Gigantic Pangaea Map as a Chieftain is currently being slowed down because of map size, number of civs, and too many units. I do like to try out new strategies and the AI's abilities so I will start a new game on Prince level and try my best to win, win, win. I will keep the C2C community informed of my progress so anyone who wants to can give me feedback and commentary.
