Caveman2Cosmos Let's Play - AstralPhaser/12padams

Oops! I meant 12padams
Um... no you were right with AstralPhaser... I am known on forums as 12padams but when it comes to lets plays on youtubw I'm AstralPhaser. Unless of course you're referring to my Histacom lets play or the pokemon fire red duel commentary lets play I made which was removed from youtube since my lets play partner gave up on it...

Once again, complaints...

You just let the Egyptians pillage the two seafood resources that were right next to the city you captured from them. You had your two galleys in the area. They sailed right past. You then had the two war galleys carrying the battering ram right there. Instead of killing the Egyptian canoe you just ignored it and moved the war galleys right next to it on the turn before it pillaged the first seafood. You then continued to ignore it and let it paddle around to the other side of the city and then pillage the other food resource, which that city really needs (and let them gain a few gold from the pillaging). You were at war. When you are at war you really ought to maybe consider attacking the enemy units instead of just letting them pillage your resources...

Second, you keep not upgrading your healers. They all have promotions you can give them. Every single one of them, I think. The promotions make them much more effective - it will, at the very least, double the healing bonus they give to units on the same tile. Just about every time you select one you hover over the promotion button. The explanation of what the promotion does shows up above the unit display in the lower left of the screen. You then proceed to not click on it, leaving them with no promotions.

By the way, I don't think you noticed that you did not get the Great Wall.

Also, the reason the Colossus keeps being available is that you keep not building it. You first added it to the build queue in your capital back a bunch of turns ago in the previous episode. You then emptied the queue to build something else and never put it back in. After that you kept seeing it as available to build and saying things like "I know I am building it somewhere". No such luck. If it shows up as able to be built somewhere then you are not building it anywhere - if a wonder shows up as available to be built then it is not currently being worked on and it is not in any of your cities' build queues.

Nice advice but um.... The next episode was recorded 10 hours before you wrote that... Infact here it is:

Episode 18: http://youtu.be/84Xo7S8pt6c
Memphis becomes a smaller yet happier and healthier place to be as we try to fix up its problems. While trying to improve living conditions in Memphis and our other cities I decide to attempt taking over another civ's city. My Koa's may be powerful but even with 5 of them taking over a city isn't a walk in the park.

I didn't because I didn't realize that button was a promotion... I though it was like an on/off switch like fortify and didn't want to waste what I though was temporary or limited... However in the next episode I realized it was a promotion luckily...

Heh, maybe I should actually be watching my own episodes... I was so confused about that and since episode 18 was recorded before you wrote this I continued to be confused :crazyeye: just remember that when you watch episode 18 so you don't think I am ignoring your advice... I'll fix it in episode 19.

if a wonder shows up as available to be built then it is not currently being worked on and it is not in any of your cities' build queues.
Ty that's helpful advice I will make note of in episode 19!

Truth be told wolfensoul gives great advice and really wants you not only to win but to steamroll other CIVs, he knows the tech tree and the benefits of each tech and wonders. But he was pretty much hijacking your Lets Play, last episodes where all about doing what wolfensoul said to do, and when I checked the forums I could not help but get the feeling that he was pretty much raging about your style of play.

It is obvious you don't know that much about the game as wolfensoul but that makes it more fun to watch. I laugh when I see you looking for a tech that is right under your noses, when you pronounce something wrong or build the wrong units. It is fun to see you struggle and break your head over things I take for granted.

I ama fan of your lets play and will always be so keep up the good work. Take all advice you can get but most importantly....

Well, I knew that. That's why they are just complaints (although you may have noticed I snuck in some general advice - I can't help it, I'm just naturally helpful).

Wow. I'm surprised nobody has it yet.

Just to be clear, that first part about "it is not currently being worked on" means by you. Any number of other civs may have a city working on it.

Over in the "Civ4 - General Discussion" forum, particularly in the "Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions" thread, the typical question that is related to this is almost the opposite: "I can see that I'm not building wonder X in any of my cities, so why can't I build it in this city over here?" If the answer is not "somebody beat you to it" then it is usually "because it is already in the build queue of a city, somewhere in the list after what that city is currently working on". This comes up probably something close to once per month.

I'm beginning to think your issues with finding the right button sometimes may go beyond simple bad luck or ordinary poor karma. Maybe you have been cursed or something. Perhaps you should seek professional help - a witch doctor, or perhaps an exorcist...
When you accidentally deleted the tar related building from the build queue of that permafrost city of yours (in episode 17) you started looking somewhere, wandered around checking buttons as you scrolled to the end, then went back to the beginning to check again more carefully. Except you didn't. You started with the second button and went from there. The one you wanted was, of course, the very first button in the building list. (It was almost finished and when the list is sorted by cost it uses the cost remaining for buildings that you have worked on, so it was the cheapest one to finish and therefore first in the list). So you went through the entire list of buildings, most of them twice, and what was, I think, the only one you never looked at was the one you wanted. Yep, you must be cursed.

To be fair, he asked for advice in the beginning, and I repeatedly told him if he wanted me to stop, I'd stop. And I did. I resent hearing that I hijacked his LP, as it implies a malicious intent.

Like I said in another post, the only reason I gave so much advice (I suppose I should have phrased my "do this"'s as "doing this would be a good idea"), was because there was alot of advice to give.

Face it wolfy, you're just plain  ! :groucho:

What with all the :wallbash::hammer: and :aargh: in your posts. :mischief:

You do get the :trophy:.

To all fans of this lets play I am here to inform you that I have not given up but the amount of episodes for this lets play uploaded per week will drop a little. This is because I am continuing to make my minecraft lets play while makng this one. That's not all though because there's something even bigger and better approaching!

The humans vs humans c2c lets play. Up to 15 humans (at least 4 of these including myself will have a lets play from their own perspective for this same game) will all be on the same map against Eachother. If you want to know more about this new lets play which is gunna be done as well as my current lets play (my current one won't stop) check out the setup/planning for it in the following thread:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=478942

By the way... how many games of non-C2C civ IV have you played?
2008: 2 games of regular civ 4. Died the first game very early on and ran out of turns in the second game when someone else won the timeed victory.
2009: played a single game of rise of mankind (mod this mod was built from) but couldn't handle the long turn time anymore
2011: played civ 5 but it sucked to compared of civ 4 with rise of mankind and when I realized rise of mankind was not going to be updated anymore or get updated to civ 5 I felt trapped and no longer wanted to play civ games anymore
2012: found this mod, played a single game, just got to medieval, got sick of turn times when I thought "I've gotta make a lets play of this and cut out turn time so everyone game experience the full joy of this game without the waiting times". Then I started this lets play... And now I'm gunna be versing a bunch of human experts in my next lets play... Yep, I'm screwed!

Boss aren't you chewing more than you can bite?
Oh the new one won't take much of my time, just 10 minutes per day. Minecraft will do every Saturday and this c2c lets play about 4 episodes per week. It's just that the new one will take a lot of initial setup/management involved so I will not be recording another episode of this lets play until Sunday.

Curse you MMLP! :aargh:

(MMLP = Massively Multiplayer Let's Play)

Now what am I supposed to spend way to much time watching and being alternately amused and annoyed by?

By the way, 12padams, I know you're a very busy guy lately, but I just wanted to let you know that in the civilopedia, there is a section called "strategy guides" there's a ton of useful information in there.

Just letting you know.

Well, there will be 5 blogs or videos coming out of this (all blogs apart from padams12), so that's 5 times as much ;-)

Awesome ;) Maybe one day, far in the future before episode 30 I'll check it out.

Um, if your that desperate... heres another episode for ya. Remember however that episode 20 is already recorded and Ill edit and upload it in 20 hours. Remember I'm a little exhausted from everything and its been a long time since I recorded so I may be playing quite poorly!

Episode 19: http://youtu.be/gfV0KZrC8Ec
Finally I figure out how to assign multiple cities to all build the same buildings or units at once. I also have a little peak into the modern era of the tech tree and get amazed by the powerful "Very Heavy Tank" unlocked by Dieselpunk. Finally I set out on a goal to wipe out egypt but sadly I realise my Koa's are starting to become a little outdated.

Lol and here's episode 20 ;)

Episode 20: http://youtu.be/JU4TxHOuNus
My small army of Koa's just aren't enough to take over any more Egyptian cities. It's time to choose a new target, create a bigger army and try to keep my cities as happy and healthy as possible in the process.

Glad to see new episodes out! Thanks for continuing this but I have to wag my finger at you for doing so much stuff at the same time. It generally doesn't end up very well.
