CCM (epic mod) preview thread

These armoured cars with their limited stealth attack capability and high movement rate, combined with some movement boni sometimes can be very nasty.

So Stealth Attack is working for land units? I thought (hopefully mistakenly) that there were some issues (i.e., it not working) for land units.

Best,

Oz

Ozy, it works very well for landunits as long as you have at least two targets for the stealth attack in a stack. If you have only one possible target in a stack it doesn´t work.

Ah! - So much for having my Assassins of Alamut targeting specifically king units :dunno: Mais, c'est la guerre.

Thanks for the clarification :)

So in order for the stealth option to work well, a unit needs to attack a stack with at least 2 stealth targets in there? Actually, if I remember correctly, I don't think it ever gave me the option (in a stack with only 1 stealth target) to only attack that single target, it then just attacks the strongest unit, so the AI probably goes by the same rule. Doesn't really make much sense that they did it like that. <shrug>

tom2050, the AI normally tries to take out the strongest offensive unit (=the unit with the strongest attack points). In CCM these units mostly are artillery units. As artillery has a stealth attack option against nearly all units of its era, this means in the offensive frequently an arty vs arty duel and this is not so far away from reality and makes sense for the new settings of artillery in CCM. Even antitank guns and tank destroyers against tanks are not so bad in my eyes :)

MartinLuther, the new Great Cultural Persons in CCM open a lot of new possiblities of gameplay in Civ 3 and as they work very well, I´m sure this idea will soon be copied in other Civ 3 mods and scenarios, too. Mozart would be nice, but no such unit exits for Civ 3 (the industrial Great leader is too far away from Mozart). To include the existing soccer player was really considered by me for some time, but the game must be in a balance and at present that unit didn´t make it in the current version of CCM.

As I like your thoughts about this concept, I attache here a screenshot from page 1 of the CCM civilopedia about the Great Cultural Persons and Holy Men in CCM. :)

Who's "Saloman"?

Wow, this looks REALLY well though out!
I can't wait to see how it works in-game!:D

Who's "Saloman"?

Hi Farsight, in the screenshot stands Salomon. This is the German word for Solomon and therefore wrong in an English mod. :D Thank you for the hint. The same to rhodie, who gave me the same advice in the nonpublic CCM-forum and helped me to write this entry in a better English style. :)

It's also Salomon in French. 2-1. Keep Salomon and let the English adapt to more civilized naming :D.

Nah, we'll stick with barbaric, as most things civilized tend not to last :mischief:

This is looking to be very interesting. Can hardly wait until it's finished.

It´s funny, that my mistakes produce more postings than the things I thought I have done well.

To help in an actual other thread in these forums I post here something about the hull unit in CCM:

attachment.php

In CCM the hull unit combined with a single small wonder produces three level of carrier units for each civ in that mod. So for level 1 Britain has the Ark Royal class, Italy the Aquila Class, the US the Lexington Class, the French the Bearn Class, the Germans the Graf Zeppelin Class and so on. With the proper tech the hull unit now upgrades to level 2 carriers (Ark Royal II, Forrestal Class and so on) and later to level 3 carriers as the Nimitz Class, the Gorshkov Class (and so on).

To use the king flag for carriers has another big advantage as units with that flags are used last to defend. In SOE it happened frequently, that big carriers were sunk by a second attack with a simple destroyer as the AI used these ships for defense very early. This was stopped after all carriers received the king flag.

In CCM the methode of advanced autoprudction is used heavily for landunits and in my eyes this new option is one of the best new concepts for Civ 3 in CCM.

There is one annoying bug in upgrading units with the king flag: If a unit with a king flag is upgraded to another unit with a king flag that unit will not carry the normal name but the name of the ruler of that civ. So it must be avoided to upgrade a unit with a king flag to another unit with a king flag. As far as I know, Vingringjoe was the first to formulate that rule. So the upgrade path for different king units in CCM (for different civs) is set for the next king unit, but at the same time the unit that should be upgraded doesn´t receive the flag that allows to upgrade that unit. Therefore, when a certain tech is researched, the old king unit (basic unit or hull unit) gets obsolete and the basic unit upgrades to the next king unit in the chain that is up to date.

Tomorrow is a fortnight(since C/BL's last comment in this thread) how about an update.....PLEASE?

One more time, thank you very much for your interest Moosezilla. :)

The last days of my civing time were very busy by completing the civilopedia ( and here there is still a lot to do). I attache some of the CCM unit entries. As you can see, there are some new concept entries included. And there are some thingies I introduced to get even more fun in game. P.e. the coastal defense installations (immobile guns located in harbours and set as sea-units, upgrade to Flying boats, that are also sea-units and these Flying boats now can use the torpedo-attack animations I always wanted to have properly in CCM).

...and some more civilopedia screenshots about landunits. I try to have all information on one side of the civilopedia.
