CFC last.fm group created!

Could you make a forum om the site, Hakim?

My musical tastes don't seem to have polluted the charts yet, I must have joined to late for this week's.

@LLXerxes: go ahead with the avatar. There's currently a technical problem with the site that disables avatar changing though.

@Zuffox: ok, although I recall there being a problem with that too. I'll give it a try.

edit: not possible to create forum yet. This and the avatar problem are listed as known issues:

Groups Avatar

- Adding/Changing a group avatar results in a broken image. (Cache issue similar to the artist images issue above.)

Groups Forum

- It's currently not possible to create a forum for a group which doesn't already have one.

Regarding the forum, there are 3 different setups:
  • Open - no access restrictions and any logged in user can post messages
  • Restricted - anyone can browse, only group members can post messages
  • Private - only group members can browse and post messages
Which one should we have (it can be changed later)?

I'd go for restricted. By choosing restricted we'll entice users forbidden to post to join our group, thus increasing our grip on the world's music taste. :scan:

Judas Priest, Iron Maiden,.. we are heading into the right direction! :D

indeed we are :goodjob:

There are some pretty big metal heads in the group, yes. :D

... but I'd prefer indie - although Blind Guardian deserves the utmost praise.

So, what is this thingy group? What does it do? What do I have to do to join? What software does it need?
If someone could do an idiot's-guide for me, then I'll gladly join - for the two more days I'll be here (:(). Ye shall behold my sister's Queen albums, and my classical ones.

Allow me to be your mentor of idiots:

Last.fm is a program or plugin that remembers the music you play and transmits it to its homepage where a chart/billboard will be generated - updated every week or something - with the most popular tracks and most popular artists in your music taste, reflecting how many times you've heard them.

You can even post the chart on boards - but please refrain from doing this on CFC, since they are a bit too big - just like with xfire:
Zuffox.gif

1) Create a user
2) Afterwards, download the last.fm program, so that it will be able to monitor the music you play and show it to the other exhibitionists on the music-loving scene.
3) Join us! Ahem. Click this link.
4) Go nuts.

Ok first about last.fm:
What you need to do is starting an account at last.fm and install the software.
Then everytime you listen to music on your computer, the media player sends information about that song (title and artist) to the last.fm site. After listening to a number of songs, the site will make top charts over you most played song and artists. It will also try to guess which music you might like (based on what you have listened to earlier) and give you recommendations. The site will also compare your data to that of other last.fm users and try to find "musical neighbours", ie people that listen to the same music as you do. If the recommendations wasn't to your taste you can check what you neighbours listen to and perhaps find some new good music that way.

Now this thread is about a group account that I've opened. It basicly do the same as individual users accounts but collect data from all members and then make charts etc from that. All you need to do is login to your last.fm account and then go to the group accounts home page and click the join button.

This week Coldplay seems to be the groups most popular artist, and Exit music by Radiohead is one of the popular songs.

@Zuffox: I agree about the forum restrictions. Now we just need to wait for them to fix their problems so we can start it.

A forum is created on the page, be the first to post! The forum are set so that only members can post but anyone can read it.

A temporary avatar is also uploaded. Make a suggestion for another avatar if you want it replaced.

I think new weekly charts will be generated tomorrow on monday. Better listen to some good stuff so that the charts wont be filled with <crappy artists> and <crappy songs>.

Sorry, with all my homework I've been overwhelmed and couldn't do it. It's up now, though.

Should we post our charts in here or something? Because that seems akward :undecide:

Let Hakim do it in the first post, if anyone thinks it's a good idea.

I've uploaded a crude image of the fanatic as avatar. If anyone have a better looking image please post it. My image editing skills are very limited. Perhaps we should take it to Lyonesse's avatar thread?

Interesting idea about a chart in the first post, I'll look into it.

Maybe the opening post can have a "top 10 tracks" or "last 10 listened" for each member in there? :)
