CFC Pick'em Funtimes 2018-2019

Bro I was born in southern Louisiana WTH do you expect from me

Honestly though it really wasn't that cold, "cold" for me is the low teens or that Seahawks-Vikings game where it was -5 degrees with a -20-something wind chill and 88 year old Bud Grant just walked out there in short sleeves

Exactly, with wind blowing in off the lake bringing a blinding snowstorm. ;)
I used to get a kick out of Grant when he did that. Ditka usually at least wore a sweater.

The Bears might become the Vikings of the seventies.

Supposing the Bears win the Super Bowl, they’ll be more than that. Not saying they will but they’re contenders.

One good game against a good offense does not make them great. But considering we would have been happy for any improvement this year, the city seems to be thrilled.

The Bears have the best defense in the game and an offense that is barely worse than average. Considering Denver’s offense was worse than that in Super Bowl 50, they are contenders.

Too many rule changes since super bowl 50. With no weather to slow them down there are too many offenses that can ring up thirty points on any defense, no matter how good they are. I don't see the Bears competing in a shootout, and the current rules make for shootouts.

Any given Sunday. Wasn't the Dallas beat down of NO in warm weather with the exact same rules. Any given Sunday.

But I wouldn't bet the Mortgage on the Bears. ;) But they're a lot more fun to watch than we thought back in September.

I don’t see anyone putting up a shootout against this Bears defense. I won’t go as far to call them the favorites, but they are one of the few small handful of teams that has an actual chance to go all the way.

Edit: keep in mind the Rams have the second best offense in the game and the Bears held them to six points. Even if some of that was due to home field + the Rams being thin on o-line, it’s hard to say they aren’t contenders.

No amount of rule changes make catching a thirty degree football easy. That helps the defense. Without that help I'd expect the Rams to hang about thirty on the Bears. Do you really think the Bears could keep up?

Keep in mind that in the modern NFL 34-30 isn't generally considered a shootout. To count as a shootout under current rules one team has to break forty, if not both.

Yeah, when they hopefully meet in the playoffs in LA, they'll be a heavy underdog. But then, any given Sunday. If your QB throws 3 picks.......

I think it was four.

If we meet them in the playoffs, I'll settle for 3. ;)

I agree. The Rams and Saints had to be the favs in the NFC and the Bears just beat the Rams. And it wasn't some fluke like where an under .500 teams catches a playoff team sleeping.

I've been doubting the Bears all year... I'm ready to concede that they're good. They've beaten more than just a bunch of powderpuffs at this point.

But they lost to the Giants ;)

The doubts in the city are being dispelled at a rapid pace, setting us up for the normal disappointment.

We'll ride it as long as it goes. It's been more fun then the previous decade.

I think you can look forward to many seasons of beating up on the Packers, which based on Chicago fans I have known is almost as much of a priority as winning the Super Bowl.

More of a one. ;)
But continued success is difficult with the cap. Fortunately the Bears are young and have some years on some contracts left, but we still remember the break up after the 1984-87 period. Not every team can do what the Patriots seem to.

They cheat. Any team can, but most teams won't. Maintaining a competitive balance across the league is critical to continued success for everyone, and the risk of breaking that down is something very few owners would even consider. Certainly no descendant of George Halas.
