that one fox news host whose name escapes me right now for some reason (black haired, very grating, very loud) pinned this, the trump shooting, and a number of other things, on an eponymous "they" who are coming after "us" or whatever. it's rhetorical utility for the context of making the country seem more dangerous than it is, and to misidentify which parties are actually aggrieving or dangerous (because, as we all know, it's mostly right wing "lone wolves" doing most of the murder). also, "they" works as a lovely dogwhistle

point is, i technically disagree on whether it will be "forgottten" or not; it will be on the substance of the event, but it will be continuously woven up into the rhetoric that crackdown'ing the left is necessary in such a tenuous political environment.

also the notion that charlie kirk is unrelated to trump is hilarious. he was a big part of maga discourse and a huge driver of political engagement for trump, directly funded by the same parties pushing the maga-friendly media environment. he has everything to do with this thread
 
So far all of these shooters have been roughly same-teamers who usually break on Jan 6, Ukraine, Israel, and of course Epstein.

I will predict it stays on trend.

In this case, the shot from 200 yards away narrows down the field of shooters quite a bit. I'm not saying there are no leftists who could have done it, but the ratio of right-wingers to left-wingers capable of a shot like that has to be pretty damn high.

However, I'd wager you'd find more people on the left that had both motive and capability than on the right.

But I wouldn't look to left or right for shooter. Rather, my first suspect would be families of the children that died in school shootings that Kirk called "unfortunate, but acceptable cost".

The shooting was in Utah, a deep red state full of conservatives.

It isn't, but barring an interstate stalking shooter, the likelihood of conservative shooter is much higher in Utah than in a blue state. Sure it may be a "Have Gun, Will Travel" episode and I expect we will find out sooner than later. BTW, the overturning of Roe v Wade has now opened the door for restricting travel by women.

Reminder that Salt Lake City is out in the middle of nowhere. Travel times to other big or important cities:
  • Almost 8 hours to Denver
  • 6 and a half to Las Vegas
