Chat Room?

I was just there but left because there was nobody... anyone inside was idle.

We did have a pretty good fun earlier today though.

You could try mIRC and leave it idle to read later on. The problem with web clients is that people have it right there in their browser, and either want to chat or surf. People with standalone clients tend to only check back periodically.

If you do download mIRC (don't worry about the whole 30-day-trial thing, after 30 days it just makes you sit through a 5 second nag when you start it) you need to type /server irc.gamesurge.net -j #civfanatics to join.

I will keep that in mind. Thank you for that handy info! ^_^

Apparently not a lot of love for Civ 4 from this one dude in the chat room.

It's interesting how he bashed the Great People concept.... ^_^

Anyone feel like joining now?

When I chose what server to use when we did the great chatroom migration, I specifically avoided quakenet. Whenever I seem to use it in the past it was plagued with netsplits. I chose gamesurge as I found it to be very stable and supported mibbit.

IRC chatrooms work best when you idle in it. Conversations arnt happening 3600 minutes a day, which is why people leave their chat client open (idleing) and when conversation starts you just join right in.

In the future I would move us to an XMPP (Jabber) server, it opens up the possibility to use things similar to live streaming and voice chats.

Edit: I just remembered that someone was working on a civ 4 mod that allows you to use the chatroom in game. I do not know if it was ever finished or not, but I do code in python so I might be able to pull something together if needed.

Well, netsplits happen ofc @ quakenet, but from what i experience it's one netsplit (that lasts about ... 2 mins? or 5 mins?) per two days, maybe the occur more while i'm offline, but then again i'm pretty much @ my PC due to studies and don't witness them too much. At least not that much that i'd say it's a reason not to have channel there ;) Overall the advantage of Q-net clearly is that there are alot more players, and also alot more casual gamers. I'm not quite sure if one would like to have 50+ people in the chat, but that's another issue.

Great job with the chat, croxis! ^_^ I just wish more people would come and visit.

By the way, I am in the chat room again. Anyone care to join for a while? ^_^

Well, now I can access the chatroom from my phone. This should be very interesting. MUHAHAHAHAHAHA

HA! That's pretty cool... I am still one of the backwards people on this planet running around without a smartphone.

Chat room is pretty quiet though... I now have it open almost all the time now.... even now, it is D E A D!

Oh well, i'm idling there whenever i'm on my PC for more than an hour. But that'll be rare in the next few months, studying will take huge amounts of time.

Of course, I am always on MSN Messenger.... ^_^
