OOC: I leaped into the industrial age when i was given the technology allowing me to build loads of factories and stuff really really fast!!! :woohoo:

OOC: of course... Meiji Japan taking 40 years to industrialized was just after all a fluke :mischief: I mean, that Meiji Emperor must have been really stupid to have taken so long! :p

@swiss, While we're at it, please explain how the Navy of Mysore took lossess only slightly heavier then Portuguese. I can accept that Mysore has an army equipped with European arms, but a modern navy as well.....?

We had the wind advantage and caught the Portuguese unawares at dawn as they were focused on swabbing the decks and drying their laundry. Our European trained captains also had a few lucky rounds of chain shot that demasted the Portuguese flagship and three other big Men O' War. That demoralized the remaining ships. The fact that most of the Portuguese sailors had been at sea for many months did not improve their moral. If we had been fighting off Lisbon, I'm sure Mysore would have taken it on the chin. ;)

We demand the return of Goa, refusal to return said territory will result in war.
Let us consider the history:

But while the Omani were rejoicing, the Portuguese had another trick up their sleeve. They moved their forces in on the mainland, and made some serious advances taking barely any casulities.

Our attack was a misunderstanding and we offer a white peace.
Yes, a misunderstanding.

Mysore made very plain and public that it supported the Sultan of Oman, even after they declined an alliance. You were well aware of this. Yet, you still attacked. What choice did we have? You spit in our face. The citizens of Goa were incensed and out of control with anger at your nation. Our presence has calmed their mood and they are pleased to be now ruled by a native king. It was all we could do in the heat of battle to rescue your brave traders and bureaucrats from the seething mobs and return them safely to your land.

Did you really expect to march and sail into our small corner of the world with conquest on your mind and have us bow down and give in to your every wish? Would you give up Rio or Macao to me just because I wanted it and needed it to puff up my reputation? I think not. We may be weak and far away, but we are not stupid.

Of course your traders may return to Goa and take up their trading once more, but this time they will be under the safety and protection of Mysore and subject to the modest increases in taxes that will disperse some of their huge profits to the poor and downtrodden of India. :)

No, don't mind me, just having a little fun.

That's why I left the next line ("I wanna watch you bleed") out. ;)

Lets compare Portugal vs. Mysore, shall we?

Economy points/turn (current): Portugal 10, Mysore 4

Starting differences:

Portugal army +2 training
Portugal navy +15 squadrons +5 training
Economy +1
MIlitary leadership +1
Infrastructure +3
National Intelligence +1
Living standards +1

And you don't think you have enough advantages, with a significantly better starting position and huge income?

Japan gained the ability to purchade large scale shipments of modern arms from Russia, China, and Louisiana. Stats and other questions answered later.

And Alex, its because your people were like "WTH?! What the those damn idians doing!"

And in the Battle for Zanzibar, you and France destroyed each others fleets before the Omani came. You got pwned by the fog

wow it all makes sense now, see if you europeans could have been smart enough to look at eachother flags and uniforms while you were bording eachothers ships and blasting eachother's faces off you could have won zanzibar, stupid europeans

OOC: Swiss did you see my EP questions I pmed?

The shogun sat in his grand room in Osaka. Kyoto had long been a center of trade before his new policy. They had been wide fishermen. But now it was time for the Shogun to begin work on his new dreams. He had paid a visit to both Russia and Louissiana in the past year. He had seen the wonders of New Orleans and beauty of Moscow.

He saw massive works of machinery and their magnificence. He saw this power as fire. The power that man had received from god. The grand might of it had merely given food. Then it gave birth to the sword and dagger. It brought forth strength and destruction.

And now they had shown the true might of fire. The power to move mountains and defeat mother earth. It was not just a tool it was power. If man was going to survive he needed to harness this power now more than ever.

As he drew up plans for the factories, the shogun looked over his readings. Yes, there beauty and magnificence. Machinery that could turn out more than anyone could have imagined. Factories would soon pop up. Mines would form all over the rugged terrain harvesting the plentiful iron.

Fishing would boom with the rice. It would bring a new dawn for japan. The Shogun's father had been blind. Not able to grasp the power, the strength, the will. No his father was mad not to take such power. It was what man was meant to do.

The shogun's eyes lit up. He was smiling to himself. He drew out his samuri sword, and placed it down.

"From now on there will become a new generation of samuri, men will not merely learn the art of the sword, but of the pistol and gun.

Hitoshi knew what were the possibilities for Japan and he meant to make the dream come true!
--------------------------------------------------

Kioshi stood in Osaka looking over his new factory. He sought to make a new chain. He had recently made a deal with russian bussiness men and purchased himself a fine peace of technology. He had opened mines and harvested the iron for his buildings. Now steel was what he was using. Building his factories.

Osaka would become a center of industry. Kioshi would see to it. A man of bussiness and looking ahead. As his construction proceeded Osaka would become a changed city.

No longer would open carriages be carried by mules and ox. But railroads would pop up, the city would light up. A bustling metropolis and the world was open.

I quit. Yes, I quit. I never do say this, but this nes is a bit ah.. "fake" and the rules don't exactly suit my tastes... Of course, I do wish you the best of luck in your nes but it would be better if you had a sense of realism. ;) But I don't really expect that coming from a lover of Irishman :p

Oh yes, a word of caution, don't let people change everything to their own liking. It may be quite difficult, but do keep in mind of "reality" and even though it may be an alternate history, it's still supposed to be "real" such as for example a small African nation having 150k soldiers :mischief:

@short guy, if you compare the advantages historically between European nations and other nations, you would see that the advantages was actually much, much greater

I think i'll quit too, lost of interest... Swiss, while i appreciate your attempts to make the playing field more even, that would probably have been better with a freshstart or something of the sort rather than an alt-his..

I understand guys. I think i'm being realistic, and i dislike the fact that in most NESes, the European powere bam, get what they want. Its very unlikely that in one year with little losses Portugal could completely defeat an entrench regional hegemon.

Thom, what do you mean exactly?

To Ottoman Empire
From Britain

Is that a decleration of war? We do not wish for war keep in mind, we are not the aggressors. We seek only for your diplomatic assistance with your ally to ensure that war can be averted, once and for all.

Well, to be truthful all NESes are "fake", so that reason doesn't cut it. They are games in which players operate within a very loose framework. Kinda a like D&D without the die rolls and charts.

Not getting your way is a poor reason to quit. :p My impression was that you are considered a pretty good player. I don't get it. Is Portugal at this point too tough to play or are you adverse to struggle? I hope you change your mind and stick around. :)

PS: If nothing else you could dedicate your game effort to taking Mysore out. We could have a grand old time.

Yeah Alex, you shoulda asked me for help, I woulda been easily convinced to help out if you spouted some stuff about keeping the Asians where they belong.

Swiss, use the orders I sent. Then NPC me. Focus on killing Italy and then focus on building up our project, economy and the number of ECs I have. And please, everyone, don't kill me.
