CIV Gold!

I have seen a Lombard civ posted. I was hoping someone would do a Savoy civ as well. Maybe a Pope Gregory LH for Rome (Spi, Cre)? Anyway I would like to see a renaisance UU for Rome/Florence/Savoy.

Good day, Wyz, and other regulars, lurkers and newbies:

Long time lurker, first time poster. :)

I've just recently downloaded and attempted to install the CIV Gold beta for BTS and I'm running into some issues.

I believe I've installed the mod into the correct place as it shows up on the mod list. I've tried using the shift key and also tried modifying the no mods setting as indicated in this thread here:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=178919

However, when loading the game it does not load the mod by default - it doesn't register it as loaded until I go into the Advanced-Load a Mod option to do so. I am still getting the diplomacy XML error messages and still not getting any of your creations on my leaders/civilizations options lists when trying to start a game.

I have installed the Diplomacy Fix file that was mentioned in your thread as well, but it doesn't seem to help any.

Do you have any other suggestions as to what to try next?

Thank you to you and your comrades for what has obviously been a monumental creative and technical effort!

Paul

Hi waywardclam,

Make sure you don't have a "double folder". In other words, make sure you've installed to "Mods/CIV Gold" and not "Mods/CIV Gold/CIV Gold"

Also, in the CIV "ini" file, you have to change "Modular Loading=0" to "Modular Loading=1"

I believe the diplomacy fix was for the Warlords version. You wouldn't need it now. Try deleting the folder and re-install. We are releasing the Final version in a couple of days with some additional fixes.

Many thanks! There were a lot of community members involved in this effort. Hopefully we'll work out the remaning bugs.

Everything seems to be working fine now, thanks.

Check.

Check. I misunderstood this because I was getting XML errors prior to loading it and it was at the end of your announcement post beneath the link to the BTS version... but I suspected I was doing something wrong at that point...

Anyhoo - thanks again for your help and the original work :)

Update - been playing everything and it's absolutely FABULOUS. You guys rock. :D

Speaking as a Canadian, I want to make a suggestion for the next iteration (which obviously might not match your tastes, but here it is anyways...)

The Microwave Tower is an, er, *accurate* building, but IMHO it doesn't capture the essence/spirit of Canada, if you see what I mean. What about instead a unique building that replaces the Coliseum: the Hockey Arena, that functions as a Coliseum but also generates, say, 2 Culture per turn? I think that would be very much in line with one of the prime sources of Canadian identity and pride...

Either way, thanks again for all the work - this has multiplied the already high replayability of Civilization for me! :)

I just can't wait for Wyz_sub10 to reply to this post.

I think if Canada's UB was to be a Hockey Arena then it should have a military unit XP bonus. :D

What's the old joke? "The other night I went to a fight & a hockey game broke out!"

Yes...yes, we do. :p In all seriousness, sincere thanks! I'm glad that you're enjoying it.

Just so you know, I'm Canadian (hence the added Canadian content, which will be scaled back but included optionally - balance reasons)

Hey, don't think I didn't consider a Tim Hortons to replace the supermarket! ;)

The reason for the Microwave was two-fold: 1) it speaks to Canada's expertise in communication (Anik satellites, Nortel work abroad), specifically the fact that Canada maintains the largest Microwave network in the world; 2) More pragmatically, the Broadcast Tower was not yet used as a UB replacement, so it seemed like a good choice

Having said that, I think the Hockey Arena certainly captures the culture and charm of Canadian life, in the same way the Mall does for the Americans or Odeon for the Greeks. But in the Canada Mod thread I opened this up to the community and a lot of people argued that the Arena/Col was "too cliche" and that we should look at something more technical.

The solution - in the Canada Mod - was to include "Hockey Night in Canada" as a wonder. If you haven't seen it, check it out. I made a building with the Canadian NHL logos (incl. Quebec and Winnipeg) and the screen when you build it is a neat montage of Orr, Gretzky, Howe, Lemieux, etc.

Either way, thanks again for all the work - this has multiplied the already high replayability of Civilization for me! :)

Maybe I'll re-work the Canada Mod so that it can be easily "dropped into" the Gold mod, with additional content.

LOL No I haven't gotten there yet, but I have had the pleasure of reducing Lincoln to a Vassal. :D

I can see you've given this far more thought than I have already!

Did you give any thought to the idea of a Voyageur instead of a scout?

I'm going to have to go find this Canada thread of yours - sounds like interesting reading :)

:D

The Voyageur was my UU for Canada in my Civ III mod. It replaced the settler and could move further with some basic combat. (in retrospect, it was pretty damn powerful)

For the CIV IV UU, I went with the Canada Corps as a nod to the country's development as an international player due to their role in WWI.

Other considerations were the Mountie (a flavor unit in the Canada Mod), the Avro Arrow, the JTF2, and the Voyageur.

LOL I guess I have to say I like the way you think. :D

I do see the logic behind your various decisions here. And they do also speak to the fact that Canada is a fairly modern nation, as compared to the majority of other tribes in the game.

My only disappointment is that I rarely play a game of Civ long enough to reach the development of either the Microwave Tower or the Canada Corps - by the time they can be built, it has long since become clear whether I have won or lost the entire game, and how successfully/badly... so I'm not going to get to use them a heck of a lot in actual games... :(

I'm not a good enough player to have that problem. :)

The Mountie will be included in the standalone Canada Civ as a flavour unit, and I'll put the Arrow and Voaygeur in as well, so you can have that Canadian flavour.

Oh, the game's not always over at that point because I *won* it. Sometimes it's over for very much the opposite reason. :D

Civ Gold Team:

I'm a big fan of your work...Well done on your work in the past.

Any news on when the final version of Civ Gold 3.0 (BTS) will be released? It sounded last week like a release was imminent, but now all is quiet.

The plan was to release it yesterday, but I guess someone got caught up in a hockey-game or something ;)

So I expect the official release today or tomorrow.
