Civ V - One World Speculation Thread!

If that were the Civ list, I wouldn't even bother buying the game. May as well throw Sparta, Macedon and every other Aegean civilization in with them, ignore the rest of the world... oh wait, no, how about an irrelevant former colony of limited international significance and some native groups that struggle to even fill the definition of "civilization" as seen in the game. Amazing, interesting cultures yes (although having an "Australian Aborigines" civilization would be like having the "Native American" Civilization again), civilizations for the game? I don't really see why when there are huge numbers of better choices.

Random events as well? Really? Why not bring back corporations and everything else that was wrong with the "full" version of Civ IV?!

There are also modern day barbarians in the game already.

I think that having Greece as a Civ with Alexander as leader covers much of classical/Hellenistic Greece. But considering that the Minoans were one of the more relevant civilizations prior to all the great civilizations of antiquity, I think that they should have a civ in the game. That's my case for the Minoan Civilization. And it stands to order that the ones I listed were the ones I was able to think of off the top of my head.

As for random events, humanity throughout history has been impacted immensely by both natural and human-caused environmental events. I think that including them would add to the reality of the game and force the player to change his/her game strategies.

So, where does this leave us?

With 2 decent options to win the game.

How about these victories?

[Economy Victory] :c5gold: - Earn $75,000 :c5gold: and purchase the Golden Economy building to trigger the Economy Victory. (Building can only be built if in the Modern Era)

[Religious Victory] :c5faith: - Earn 50,000 :c5faith: and purchase a Grand Priest to trigger the Religious Victory. (Must be in the Modern Era in order to trigger the victory.)

[Production Victory] :c5production: - Honestly not too sure about this one, but I am sure there is a way to make this a victory.

I definitely like the Economy victory and where you're going with the production victory. However, I'm not too sure about the religion victory conditions. I would prefer to see having your religion as the dominant world religion be the victory condition for that. But definitely an interesting post with some good options!

I'd like to see the Minoans too. Then again, I'd also like to see the Saxons. The unfortunate fact is they get grandfathered into another civ like the Greeks (under a Macedonian) or the English (under a Welsh queen). But the good news is: that's what mods are for.

I just wish there was an easy way to create a modded civ without needing programming skills.

I agree with the previous notions that adding in more victories would really make the game more interesting, more versatile, and more fun overall. However, when I look at the current victories of the game Cultural, Domination, Science, et cetera, they are all very diverse. So, having an Economic Victory and a Religious Victory, as mentioned above, where the goal is practically to amass a tonne of the respective currencies, :c5gold: Gold and :c5faith: Faith, would, in my opinion be very boring. Instead, especially with the possible advent of corporations, I think, if there were new victories, they should have their own mechanics that snowball as the game progresses, similar to how Cultural Policies and Technologies do. How to implement this would be more difficult than, say just amassing a set amount of gold, but I also think it would be much more rewarding.

For example, I could really see a vehicle for making the Economic Victory a possibility is Currency, intertwined with Corporations. Corporations would mostly be the best route to win through Currency. Perhaps when a Civilization researches the technology Currency, it could use a large sum of gold to purchase a National Mint building, which has its own large maintenance. However, the National Mint allows a Civilization to create its own Currency which, perhaps through social policies or a new mechanic altogether, can be enhanced. This currency could fluctuate in value and provide negative or positive Gold modifies throughout the Empire, depending on how well it is managed. If a Civilization's Currency is thriving, another Civilization could ask to, or be forced to, adopt that Currency and receive the bonuses for that Currency. In order to win the Economic Victory, the founder of that Currency must spread it to x% of the world's cities. However, Currency can be very fidgety and rapidly decline in value, so that is where the Founder would have to take great care in maintaining it. Corporations could further aid in the stabilization of the Currency (historical example: J.P. Morgan bailing out the US Treasury) and the spread of that Currency. I think that this, maybe in combination with a new type of 'manufactured' resources which are a topic for another thread, would really add the sense of Economic Imperialism which CiV lacked.

As far as Religious Victory, I don't have much to say, but spreading your Religion to x% of world cities could work, although that could be very mundane, just purchasing missionaries and Great Prophets. However, it could work.

...one of the more relevant civilizations prior to the great civilization of antiquity?

...coming soon, the French Neanderthal Civ!

I wouldn't mind the Minions, so long as many for more significant civilizations that have been missed so far were included. As it stands however, throwing them on in would seem about as relevent as having a Cornwall civ in the game.

Yes, You Can. Giant Multiplayer Robot says yes: http://multiplayerrobot.com

But that's a complicated and exhausting 3rd party way. I would not wanna waste 5 weeks playing a game like that because a player hasn't signed in for ages.

When we say "multiplayer" I'd say most people usually mean Internet game that everybody plays at once and not "hotseat", although Hotseat would also need Mod support.

Had the feeling I would open this page and see some updated news today.

The Gold Edition went up for sale today. I imagine we will see the new expansion pack officially announced in the next few weeks.

the "one world' could also be a patch/dlc, maybe a bigger dlc than the spain/inca one they release ages ago. i'm not a fan of 1 civ/dlc as it just means people will either play the game as usual, or hog the new civ which makes mp boring; and sp unchanged. and speaking of mp, have they fixed the ai.....or should i say "ai" in mp yet, my friends and i have given up.

i dont know how, but they should really figure out a way to stop the "snowballing" civ from winning 99 percent, with a 1 percent error, of the time.

I've never played Civ4 but I like the idea of international trade routes and corporations. I would like the ability to have river trade routes and canals considering how important they are in history. A more indepth future era would be interesting and fun. As for new civs I would say Portugal, Sumeria, Zulu, Mexico, Hebrews(Israel), Brazil, Khmer, and maybe an Inuit civ for fun. Improved diplomacy with the ability to form a League of Nations of sorts. Melting ice caps, natural disasters, famine and plague would be an interesting twist. I can't wait for the announcement.

The reason river trade routes were left out is to provide an increased emphasis on Roads but I agree on the future era. I also am glad others agree with me on natural disasters.

You guys think we're gonna get an annoucement tomorrow?

I'd say within the next two weeks, but probably not tomorrow. Our wifes or girlfriends would not be allowing us to keep up to date on the latest info during the celebratory activities.
