...one of the more relevant civilizations prior to the great civilization of antiquity?
They paved the way for the Ancient Greeks that we've come to know. Look at them in the same light as the Sumerians in Civ IV.
wheres the announcement? i thought feb 14th was the expected/totally speculated day
With no DLC now a full 179 days after the release of Gods & Kings it seems more than likely that either Civ V has come to it's end or that a new expansion is on the horizon. The previous time that such a gap existed with no movement was between the release of the final DLC and the announcement of the expansion.
With this in mind, and previous release patterns taken into account it seems likely that an expansion is on it's way, most probably announced around the February/March, as they have in the past. They announced G&Ks, BtS and Warlords all on a Thursday, and I'd expect the same this time, and whilst BtS and Warlords were both announced in March, as G&Ks was announced in February I'd guess this is the most likely this time as well.
As for the release, they generally are released about 4 months after announcement, so I'd guess it would be the same this time. As such I'd expect an announcement on:
Announcement: February 14th or February 21st 2013
...or any Thursday following, but these two seem the most likely. Then simply add around 4 months. So yeah, based on what we know, I'd expect to see an expansion around June/July next year and announced on the 14th or 21st of February 2013.
Have a nice holiday season!
Moderator Action: added [Speculation] to the thread title.
They generally announce things on a Thursday, so the 14th or the 21st seems most likely. With the release of the Gold Edition of Civ V (or whatever it's called) after the 14th, I'd assume that it will be the 21st. I discussed it in depth a while back in this thread, where I was promptly shouted down for using past actions to predict an expansion pack.
As I said in this thread, based on previous patterns an expansion is pretty sure to be announced in February, most likely the 14th or 21st. As the 14th is valentines day, there was always a good chance that the 21st was more likely and this being released on the 19th, I think we can pencil the 21st in for the announcement of One World.
As for announcement and release date, as I've been saying for a while now, it'll most likely be announced on a Thursday based on previous announcements, at a guess the 14th or 21st of February, with the 21st more likely as I doubt that they'd announce it on Valentine's day, although you never know. If it is indeed a mid to late February announcement I'd expect it to be released in June, if it's announced in March instead, it would be for a July release.
This was my speculation thread. In that thread I go through the reasons why I thought it was to be most likely either the 14th, or the 21st. With the 14th being Valentine's day it was always a longshot that they'd announce it then, and as has been said since the name 'One World' was found, the speculation has been for a while that the 21st was more likely, especially with the timing of the release of Civ V Gold or whatever it is called. Here are some quotes where I directly state the above:
As well as this quote, which is from the bottom of a longer quote:
People need to realise few things, for one, there's THIRTHY TWO civs alreadyin game counting up all the DLC, G&K and Vanilla civs, that's more than enough by previous installments, I'm not too surprised we hadn't had any new Civ DLC, besides, they pretty much run out of re-used civs anyway, I think Zulu and Portgual are the only two not to be in the game already, other than that the rest is pure speculaction.
Thanks for summing that up. I am not so much into more civs like other players, but more into changing game mechanics (which come with expansions).First: 34 civs already in, not 32
Second: Portugal, Zulu, Sioux, Sumer, Hittite, Khmer, Mali
Only mentioning the full civs from previous civ titles (and not counting idiotic ones like Native America and the HRE)
Couldnt they just add 2nd leaders to some of the popular civs like civ 4?
OMG! JUST ANNOUNCED WITH A LEAKED PIC! POLAND, THEIR UA= PEOPLE OF THE PLAINS
-1000% FOR ALL UNITS IN ANY WAR! ALLOWING ENEMYS TO RUN OVER YOUR LANDS THROUGHOUT HISTORY!!!!!
ahhaha i jus playin...that would be funny tho![]()
I have no problem with more Civs I just tried to make a point that the reason there wasn't any DLC is because there's 34 civs alreadyin game. I just think they are saving the remaining nations for the One World.. but meh, I just want it to be officially announced, I'm dying of curiosity! Meow!
Sep 2010: Civ V Release
Oct 2010- Aug 2011: DLC Run
June 2012: First Expansion
June 2013: Second Expansion
July 2013 - 2014: Second DLC Run
Sep/Oct 2016: Civilization VI Release
I touched on this in the thread that speculated on the announcement date (most likely on the 21st of February), and basically it makes sense that there is no DLC between expansions. The idea with DLC is to strike while the iron is hot, so directly after an initial release is the perfect time to get as much DLC out there as possible, particularly with the more casual players who are early on going to want everything that they can get. The problem with expansions is they take a lot of time and effort to make, and so you can hardly "strike while the iron is hot", making them more of a way of reigniting interest.
The issue that arises with expansions is that with the size of them for Civ they are going to take time, and not every initial player is going to be interested in them, especially when many of the more casual players would have moved on. A subset of them might buy the expansions, but not that many. This means that you'll likely have a smaller market for DLC after the release of an expansion. This however, to me at least, wouldn't be the main reason there wasn't any after the release of Gods & Kings though. Instead I would think that it was more a case of wanting to release back to back expansions, but this would take up a lot of time and resources, meaning that DLC would merely be a side project, which is not favourable while making a full expansion (and most probably the last one). Add to this that the market would be slightly smaller than the one after the initial release for DLC and suddenly it makes sense to leave it as is.
Now, I make the point about a smaller market, but many might think: "What about making DLC for the base game that is compatible?" This might make some sense, but I doubt that they'd want more DLC civilizations that don't use the features of Gods & Kings, so you've either got to market to a potentially smaller market for the same effort as the original DLC, or you've got to try and level the playing field. In comes Civ V Gold Edition. Get a larger set of people on that level playing field, then announce the expansion the following week (they announce things on Thursdays from what I've seen, so the 21st) and get feed people a trickle of information until mid-late June to capitalise best on the excitement. If that's the last expansion, and with it being announced so quickly after the release of Civ V Gold, the players who have bought Civ V Gold, as well as the more hardcore element will likely buy the expansion as well, leading to a potentially larger player base for the "Full Game" to that point. If no new expansions are planned, and this is indeed how they see the situation, then I'd fully expect a last round of DLC, starting rapidly after the release of the expansion (most likely with a special DLC for those who preorder). Basically, one last dance for the Civ V release cycle as they do the final patches for it.
On the previous thread where I discussed this in less detail I offered the idea of a basic timeline for development based on their previous actions and the thinking above:
