Civ VII Weekly Reveal Guessing Thread

I'm guessing Genghis Khan. It's not a particularly in-depth prediction. Exploration news cycle ending, we get an Exploration leader. I'd prefer Lili'uokalani, but I'll bet on the option I'm less enthusiastic about.

At this juncture, I'm sort of thinking this will be an disassociated leader (Machiavelli, Charlemagne) so they can get the associated leaders back on the same week as the leader's civ guide going into the Modern Age civs.

Abbasids unlocked by Hatshepsut
Chola unlocked by Ashoka
Inca unlocked by Pachacuti
Majapahit unlocked by Trung Trac (?)
Ming unlocked by Confucius
Mongols unlocked by Xerxes
Normans unlocked by Machiavelli & Charlemagne
Songhai unlocked by Amina
Spain unlocked by Isabella & Augustus
Hawai'i unlocked by no one so far

Still, I'm not convinced of a Polynesian leader in the base game, somehow.

We saw the Spain unlock screen, and it was only Rome, Greece and Isabella, no Augustus there.
So Augustus and Spain is really just a recommendation from the First Look? Then I can scratch Xerxes, Hatshepsut, Machiavelli and Charlemagne from my list as well.

Come to think of it, for a new leader system that can now include any prominent figures, we sure haven’t gotten a single explorer by trade as a leader. And we’re at the end of the Exploration age reveals.

Since none of my “rational” predictions have worked out, I’m gonna throw two wild guesses:

1. Marco Polo, who will act as loose representation of Italian city-states and their role in the Exploration age. If this is too close to Machiavelli, then maybe Vasco da Gama? I also thought about Magellan and Columbus, but both are too closely associated with Spain, who already got a Civ and a leader.

2. Zheng He. This is less likely, since Ming was already revealed, but they could use his reveal to hint at Qing, and next week will be Qing on Tuesday + new Leader/Civ combo on Thursday. Idk, it just feels weird that for how much Ed gushed over Ming treasure fleets on stream, not a single design element of Ming interacts with them. Which, to be fair, is more historically accurate. Having treasure fleet/navy abilities tied to Zheng He instead of Ming would nicely wrap things up.

We do not know what forms exactly the recommendation in the first look video can take in-game. Unlock, "historical choice" tag, nothing ? It can be different in each case.

?? around all that I doubt are unlocks as opposed to just
AI preferred (AI Trung Trac probably just prefers SE Asia civs, no evidence of unlocking)
or
unlocked by their civ (Rome, Persia, Egypt unlock Spain, Mongol, Abbasids …not Augustus/Xerxes/Hatshepsut)

Yes, this might be the case. But the general idea of the post stands: who will choose Hawai'i when played by the AI?

I also thought about Magellan and Columbus, but both are too closely associated with Spain, who already got a Civ and a leader.
They are also Spanish Conquistadors, so they wouldn't be a choice.

That leak that mentioned the Ming and Qing also had Confucius as the only Chinese leader. Since most everything has been right about it, I'm not expecting another.

Also, if no Polynesian leader comes up, I have a suspicion that Himiko might default to Hawaii/Majapahit in the base game, covering all the Pacific island civs.

Sigh, and here I was editing my post stating how strange it was of Ed to highlight the Ming fleet on stream, yet not have a single fleet element in Ming’s design…

I think America and Benjamin Franklin will be the first to be revealed in the Modern Age, and then those that have already been shown a little: France and Napoleon, Japan and Himiko...

I think it might be Napoleon, actually. Free DLC leader, and thus missable. You'd want the players to know about him in advance so you can build hype and incentivize them to get him.

Franklin is one of those leaders I could see as the last First Look - big enough name to remind everyone he's in right before release and all that.

Marco Polo would be great.
