I'd be fine with Firaxis just letting us know what the DLC are about beyond vague naming. But showing off DLC content before release would be poor etiquette.
I think that for the time being, what they've done (a summary of contents, X Leaders, Y civs, Z Wonders) is precisely what is needed for DLCs. After the base game is launched, they should get into specifics, though.

I don't fully agree, at least not as a potential customer of the founder's edition. I would like to know beforehand, whether the civs included in the DLCs that I basically preorder blindly (as of now) by some months are to my liking. This directly influences the perceived worth of the DLCs and thus the ones of the founder's and deluxe editions. It's fine that this info isn't out yet (with a third of the base game civs unannounced). But I think it would be really helpful to have a bit more info on the packs (either exact civs or a description of the selection) shortly before release, and not afterwards.
I could have maybe have seen both in the same week, which was what I was holding out for, but now... yeah, it's not looking good. Though that does leave what seems to be the North America path without a leader (Ben Franklin seems to prefer Europe,) so without the preorder bonus I'm not sure which AI is going to be using Mississippi.

Ad DLC reveal, I believe they are not finished even. I know the marketing way is to take finished content out of the game and sell it as DLC, I am not naive, but equally another thing is selling yet-to-be-finished legitimate DLC as part of base edition, as basically preorder for something you preorder, which isnt something people do unless packaged like so, and it causes surge of more sales at once for investor meetings compared to it being announced and sold gradually.
Id expect Benji, since he was also shown long ago, but then again Amina was shown in the first gameplay reveal IIRW and they took the entirety of EA to reveal her.
I'm kind of thinking that if they were going to do America and Franklin as the first set of civs and leaders, then they would have two civ guides next week. If we assume the one we have is Songhai, then it might indicate that the leader of that First Look is some kind of Machiavelli-esque free agent leader.
I'm guessing either a modern leader and civ and Songhai will be in a few weeks like Persia, or Songhai and an exploration age leader that isn't tied to specific civilization.
Fair, so I suppose it's in fact worse that Hawaii is an exploration civ than if Mexico or America were exploration civs then, given Hawaii wasnt still colonising in the same way Mexico and America were
The dev team has said that they want to depict "civilizations" at the peak of their power. So depicting America as a Modern civ makes sense from that perspective. But it will feel weird if the gameplay leads you to expand and colonize as the Shawnee/Hawaiians/Normans/whoever and then only flip to being America once that expansion is pretty much complete.
