Wired.com: Man With 4th Amendment Written on Chest Wins Trial Over Airport Arrest

Benjamin Franklin: "who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." is what Leonard Nimoy cites when you discover Liberty, if I'm not mistaken. :) The judge used the same quote to release the man of his charges. In my point of view the accused had quite a good cause.

And I've always found it fascinating how the creators of the Civilization series have often openly displayed their political points of view, despite having claimed to be neutral. Well, they're teasing at least, let's say. Another example is the effects of Mount Rushmore makes the people less unhappy about being in a war. That's why you bloody Americans do such naughty stuff all around the planet. :p

A Ben Franklin quote was quoted by a judge. It just so happens to also be quoted in Civ 4.

About a million other people had said this quote before Civ IV.

While I love that Ben Franklin quote, I find it funny that they would even need it there. Is writing the fourth amendment on your chest really a security threat of any sort?

Why would Mt. Rushmore make people averse to warfare? Three of the Four Presidents on there led their country into wars (One of which before he was President.) Two of them were unquestionably the aggressors as well.

It's Liberalism, not Liberty.

Yeah, that's quite a mistake:mischief:

IIRC it is "he who would give up a little liberty for a little security deserves neither, and will lose both." It's a great quote. It is singed in my brain since I always beeline liberalism for the free tech...

Most overused quote ever.

Next the EPA will be telling us that resources exist to be consumed.

What a country!

If that happens it won't be long until it becomes every citizen's final duty to go into the tanks.

One of the most misinterpreted quotes of all time.

I'm just excited to see Matrix posting in offtopic after so many years :D

I hope not, because I plan to live forever.

I'd settle for a couple thousand years. Even fice hundred would be pretty nice.

One of the most misinterpreted quotes of all time.

The Franklin quote ?
I like see it as a warning for future generations against road signs and traffic lights. We've reached a point where the government is telling us when to stop and when to go.

Exactly. Franklin's qualifiers "essential" and "little temporary" are often conveniently left out.

Well, I never thought that Franklin was talking about traffic lights, nor do I think that traffic lights infringe on any essential freedoms.

On the other hand, the talk about assault weapons bans IS making Franklin roll around in his grave.

I think he would be more outraged that one no longer has the liberty to carry one's sword when one goes about one's business - after all, if I saw a crime in progress, it would bring me huge peace of mind to know that I could set about the blighter with my rapier.

Apologies in advance for the mash of anachronisms above.

Zounds, ye home invadre! I shall pack my gunpouwdre in my blundrebuss and load it with ballshot! Wait just one minute will ya? Hold on I'm almost loaded.

Thank you for providing evidence for my point. In direct response to one of my posts even! ;)
