Civ4 Temporary Leave Announcement Thread

Sorry about the homework and that strange stuff in toilet, as for the internet -- most people have laptops, can't you get free wifi in Uni, if you go there every day? I never knew Internet providers can be inefficient given the tales about German Roman efficiency!

I don't have a laptop, I have a tablet. Do you really believe if I could play Civ wherever I wanted you'd ever have to wait for my turns? Also I don't go to uni every day, more like three days a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday).
Ho boy could I tell you stories about how slow and inconsistent my connection is, or rather was.

I guess I could download turns in uni onto flash drives and take them home that way. Also there's my friend who lets me sleep at his place from Thursdays to Fridays with crazy fast Internet. I have been meaning to bring my Civ4 disks along to install it on his PC anyway to elevate him up from his current plebeian status as Civ- ugh- 5 - blergh - player. There is a very real chance that over the next few weeks I will play most of my turns on Thurs- and Fridays in Vienna.

I thought you were a steam player knoedal? You can just get it on steam and download it onto his PC crazy quick and play like that?

I have Steam, yes, but don't have Civ4 via Steam. I do have five Civ4 disks lying around though:

One just Vanlla
One just Beyond the Sword (or maybe Warlords too? Don't know.)
One Colonization (never actually played it though)
And two Civ4 Complete

I guess I could buy Civ4 on Steam too for good measure though.

One or two of those disks probably don't work anymore because I spilled hot chocolate one day, and I don't know where exactly all of them are in the mess of my room. Wouldn't actually mind paying again for it though, Civ4 is just worth it.* (Compare with Civ5 where even buying it once is one time too many.)

*Ironic then that I originally pirated BtS and only actually bought it after it messed with PBEMs.

You probably could just register any of your Civ4 versions on steam. I heard it works with other non steam games that are on steam. Lets you even install the game with no disks from what I gather.

Just make sure when you install Steam it is not in your "C:\Program Files" folder else you may have trouble adding custom mods.

Good news everybody, I am typing this from the PC of my friend I am staying at. I installed Civ4 and played all Vanilla turns while copying the turns of modded games (e.g. DominEarthion) onto a flash drive which I will take home.

The bad news is that I'm probably gonna stay in Vienna until Sunday. I figure since my home is full with ants, both bath and toilet are clogged and I don't have Internet I might as well stay here for as long as possible and start building up a good reputation in the left wing organization I recently joined by attending a seminar of theirs that is coincidentally being held this very weekend.

I might download some mods onto my friend's PC so I can play these turns here after all, but that depends on how much free time I can squeeze in between uni and politics.

Why bother with politics if you can rule over the world.

Spoiler :
With some Civ4 skills.

Spoiler :
Please kill the ants.

Good news everyone, I am now on the line again, and faster than ever before! While I couldn't convince my father to install DSL I at least have LTE now, and that's good enough for what it costs I guess.

During the transition of the old month to a brand new one the workload is bigger so some delays in my PBEM's should be expected.

My apologies everyone, I know I've been gone for longer than usual. Had some family health stuff to deal with, on top of a crazy busy workload. I really really hope to begin catching up on turns within the next days or two. Everyone/thing is fine, just juggling a lot of balls right now. Sorry for my delays.

Crunch time, 17 days until my wedding, my car's transmission broke, 25 additional wedding guests, best friend/best man's biopsy results shows brain cancer has returned stage 5. My Pre-op appointments begin. Ummm looks like my leave of absence will begin this weekend:(

Whew!! Other those, how's your week going?

May this be the worst of it & someday soon U can look back on all of it & say,"Whew! We all survived all of that."

Good health & organizational vibes to You. :jesus:

PS: does your bride-to-be know of this addiction called Civing?

I apologize for my absence over this weekend, but after way too many months my best friend finally showed up again. Also the 100th episode of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic aired this Saturday, basically making the past few days Christmas and my birthday on the same date.

Eclipse, good luck with everything!

Knoedel, then I hope you had a good birthday. I wish you a (late) happy birthday!
