Well on the contrary in my opinion a game with an IP like that of Marvel should have had more charm than Xcom, in short my father knows who Spider-Man, Iron Men, Hulk etc. are... but if you tell him Xcom at most he thinks whether it's a new cell phone

For gamers of a certain category yes (lovers of turn-based games), but the world certainly doesn't end with them and everyone knows who Marvel is (movies, comics, toys etc...) Xcom regardless of the turn-based niche -base game who knows them? after all, if Firaxis paid some money (and not even a little in my opinion given the IP it would have used) to use the various Spider-men, Iron Man, Wolverine it did so to produce numbers similar (if not higher) to Xcom and instead the numbers that he obtained are decidedly inferior

It's your thought, but I doubt that it was the thought of Firaxis when they paid money (and it certainly wasn't even a little) to buy the right to use the name of the various Wolverines, Spider-Man etc., otherwise they would have invented fake superhero names

Unfortunately they succeeded with me, never mind, I'll get over it like Ubisoft did with the HOMM series

No, because my father is not interested in video games, but if he would have been interested he would most likely have thought about it, I actually gave my father's example to make it clear that Marvel's IP should be more appealing for everyone even outside of turn-based strategy enthusiasts (and this was Firaxis' hope and in any case we can say that Denuvo did not increase sales)

This discussion is widely irrelevant. Unless someone can prove that Midnight Suns would have got as many sales as X-Com if not for the presence of Denuvo, none of this matters. Talking about the popularity of one IP does not constitute proof. Talking about similarity in game genres, or mechanics, or shared staff does not constitute proof. Those barely even walk towards that goal. The only thing all of this shows is that they're different games, and hence that attributing their differences in sales to any single factor is impossible. Obviously.

I can tell you that if it hadn't been for Denuvo I would have bought the game, then we can talk for 10,000 hours about this, but I have shown you that Midnigh Suns' numbers are very low, in your opinion it is more likely a Xcom 3 or Midnight Sun 2?

Yes, and for reasons explained many times already, this is completely irrelevant unless you can prove how much Midnight Sun sales were impacted by Denuvo.


And, by the way, this is all coming from someone who really dislikes Denuvo and would like a boycott to reverse its use in Civilization 7. I'd like what you say to be true, because it would make this more likely to happen. But I don't let that bias blind me to elementary statistics.

Civilization VI sold better than V. Prove that more Is increase sales. However, there clearly can be too many Is, as civ VI also outsold II and III. Hence, civ VII has to be failure, as it has too many Is. We don‘t look at civ I because it had no I after the name at all. Civ IV is an exception: it didn‘t sell as well as VI besides the same amount of Is, but it‘s a favorite, thus we can transform the player base‘s love into sales so that it matches civ VI. The next successful civ will be IX.

Whether civ VII has Denuvo or not is irrelevant for its success, because it has the wrong amount of Is.

I was unclear. The statistics I was talking about wasn't some number or data point. I meant the logic by which we can draw inferences from such data.

I have no reason to believe your data is incorrect. But the inferences you are drawing from that data shows, at best, a wild disregard for that logic.

Let's do this, I'll tell you what I would do:
If the announced features (which I didn't really like) wouldn't have made me buy the game at 90% with the inclusion of Denuvo this percentage rises to 150% obviously that's just what I'll do, then I understand that others don't think like me But that's fine, everyone is free to do as they want
For the rest I abandon the topic since in the end there isn't much else to say anyway
