We were told explore the region of Brescia. Found a factory. Faded markings. Pre-Cataclysm, thats for sure. Pietro Beretta. Found a gun inside. Somehow it worked. Was with Julius Augustus. Strange name that, I always thought, but somehow he managed to get into a good rank. Ever seen the man fight though? Never seen anyone use a sword like that like from a history book, yes.

Now you may remember Julius. Enjoyed his Latin, didnt he? Well, I think he snapped or something at the factory he picked up the gun and found a very, very odd musket ball. It was more rectangular [POST-INTER NOTE: shape appears to be similar to a cylinder] and full of smaller balls. I-I think there may have been another one of us in there.

Sergei stood against a wall and lit a cigarette. He looked out into the cold Rossiyan night, hoping to see maybe a tribesman to shoot, or something. His Ivanov gun rested next to him.
He noticed a man walking up to him and raised his gun.
“Calm down, Sergei, it’s only me.”
Sergei lowered the gun and held up a lantern. “Ah, Dmitri, I see how it is.”
“Yes, yes. How’s the watch going?”
“Absolutely nothing.”
“Mhm. Did you hear about the thing with Ivan?”
“Yeah, shot because of -”
“Hmm?”
Sergei’s voice reverted to a whisper. “Over there, do you see it?”
“See what?”
“There’s a marching column over there between the trees.”
“Don’t see it.”
“They have really odd cannon.”
“What. Not seeing anything man. Lay off the smoking.”

Background:
After a long period of Social unrest in Denmark from the 2020s to the 2060s the Danish Crown took over the government and there was an absolute Monarchy under King Christian XI. This continued until the highly corrupt reign of Frederick XII (2162-2175) in which the people suffered severely. In 2164 a young man named Lars Gustav formed the Nationalist Party. The party gained a large group of supporters and its members started to demand popular representation. King Frederick XII saw this as a threat but knew that there would be an uprising if Gustav was killed. So Lars was exiled to Greenland in 2168. But his opposition to the Monarchy still inspired the Danish people and in 2175 massive protests forced the King to abdicate his throne and flee the country.
In 2175 with the overthrow of the Monarchy Lars Gustav was freed from prison in Greenland and elected President of Denmark by a margin of less than 500 votes. His first acts as President were to banish most immigrants from the country and to set up a "Fascist Republic." He began his authoritarian reign which his opponents criticized as being similar to the Monarchy. Then, in 2180, Mercenaries hired by Frederick XII invaded Denmark and met up with royalist networks throughout the country. Even members of the military defected. They quickly captured much of Denmark until Gustav led elements of the army still loyal to him and crushed the royalists at Aarhus.
Then Gustav was able to demonize his domestic opponents by claiming that they were Counter-revolutionaries. His popularity rose dramatically and he started claiming to be a god. Some Danes were skeptical but the majority joined in and started worshiping their leader. Several high-profile opponents were executed for being suspected of having royalist sympathies. Now the Danish Fascist Republic seeks to unite the Scandinavian people under one banner.

Prime Minister Gao Yao
The Eunuch Prime Minister of Qi, Gao Yao, has presented a political program which shall lead, at least according to his expectations, to the unification of all China under Qi. Gao Yao's parents committed crimes and were punished. Gao Yao was castrated and became a Palace Eunuch. After enduring humiliation and bullying, he won the favor of the King through his excellent culinary skills and became a high-ranking official. King Han Yikang valued Gao Yao since he was an expert in law. Gao enjoyed a steady rise in position and has now been appointed to the post of Prime Minister.
Gao Yao's political program is named "Five Steps for Unification":
- Ruthless purge of all opposition to the King and death to anyone who threatens the stability of the Kingdom, mainly democrats.
- Institution of strict laws that will determinate all aspects of people's lives. Death will be the penalty for all of them.
- Militarization of state through the mass expansion of the armed forces.
- Isolation from foreign barbarians.
- Destruction of the Southern Chinese state.
Gao Yao's policies have been influenced by the philosophical movement of Legalism: Man is by nature bad and so strict laws should enforced in order for man's criminality to be subdued and for the society to be stable and peaceful.
The Royal Consort Li has been very supportive of the Prime Minister, influencing the King to place more and more trust to Gao Yao, although there is a rumor (considered to be just a slander according to official Qi policy) that the Royal Consort supports so much Gao Yao because as an eunuch he has access to the Royal Harem and can secretly bring men to sleep with her.
Expansion of Military
Chancellor Jiang Rong has overseen a mass expansion of the military in accordance to Gao Yao's "Five Steps for Unification". The army has been trained with cruel and exhausting drills and all men are now ready for actions. The Chancellor is, according to some analysts, building a sort of special connection between the army and himself in order to counter Gao Yao's increasing influence in the court. The Chancellor cannot wait for a showdown with the Southern Chinese, as a military victory shall enhance his prestige and overshadow Gao Yao. Chancellor Jiang Rong's slogan, which has been adopted by the army, is: "Loyalty, Brotherhood and Justice!" and "Serve the King, protect the country!".
