Civfanatics is slower than Apolyton

At least I think Civfanatics is slower now than Apolyton...


What with server busy errors even when it isn't 4 pm EST and just taking ages to load threads and forums even with my nice ADSL connection.


It never used to be this way


P.S I have put a 20 day timeout on the poll to try and make it a useful indicator of what the public perception is at the moment!

I've gotten "Server Busy" messages at 10:00am edt. Maybe there's a lot of European posters on!

Depends...lately, CFC seems slow, but poly was so bad they had to switch off Avatars, so i can't say which was worse.

I can.
Civfanatics has been so slow that I had real difficulty performing moderator fuctions. Poly though has all thoses irritating pop ups and pop unders, both of whcih foul up my multiple window browsering by changing the active window (the pop ups change it to themselves and thepop unders change it to the window the Poly window they pop under) in the middle of my typing.

I haven't been finding Civfanatics slow except for when I get 'server too busy' notifications (which isn't really slow per se, but rather stopped).


EDIT: of all the irony, when I hit 'submit post' the first time I got a server too busy message

I will admit to seeing a lot of "Server Busy" errors here lately.

But Lefty has the right of it: my experience at Poly hasn't been much better, because of all the pop-up/pop-under ads getting in the way and slowing things down.

recentely ther ehave been a lot more server errors and i wouldnt be suprised if one came up as i was posting but i dont visit apolyton much so i cant say

It's probably true. They do have a dedicated server for the site now and are paying $99 a month for it. We are still using free hosting from Telefragged.

I am testing some things to see if they make the forum faster.

Search feature and avatars are temporarily disabled now. Let's see if we still get those server busy message at 4 PM EST...

I noticed avatars were gone, and figured you were playing with settings like this.

And I still got a "server busy" message when I first tried to switch to this forum a moment ago.

FINALLY! I was getting very angry at the slowness of CFC! I miss the "view all new posts" feature though, but it's better not having it than having to wait an hour for a page!

I have spent the last 10 minutes trying to get here to post this - getting constant "Server Busy" messages. As you can see by the timestamp, I don't think it helped with the "4:00 EDT Problem".

Solutions:

Ban all people who don't post!
Delete the Civ3 forums!

Things are just crawling for me right now. Lots of server busy messages.

Well, at the moment the server busy is pretty ugly to us.

Being online for the civ3 demogameII almost all day i noticed busies at about 17:00, 18:00, 20:00, 21:30, 23:00 GMT+1
and the 23:00 one is not resolved until 1:00-2:00!

So at the moment, its only possible for me to go pleasantly with CFC at 8:00-16:00 GMT+1

I even heard reports of "foreigner" wanting to look up things but never being able to access the server.

only 170 users online at those times... strange if we look at the max-users statistics
