Hmm, with Chieftess playing, I think it would be a a kind of a semi-Training Game.

I would appreciate the opportunity to join.

Won twice at Emperor in Civ1.29 in first two games and gone down in flames in every attempt since.

Also haven't opened the C3C box yet. This will be good reason to take the plunge.

CG - if you like, I'll start off the first 20 turns.

Certanly CT :).

ok, got the game, and I'm finished playing. Gamesaves and screenshots being uploaded now...

Summary

Turn 0 - 4000BC

Starting position looks very nice. Grasslands, coast, river, 4 bonus grasslands, cattle and ivory on forest. I move the worker onto the cattle (not ivory - must be thinking about the wonder. :p), and send the scout E, then SE. There's hills to the SE of the scout, which is where he's going next turn. I also set the research queue to go upto Philosophy. We're currently researching Writing (48 turns). We're just to the left of top-center on the map, with coast to the north. There's some inkling of plains to the south, and forest to the west. I also change the build to another scout. Portugal is expansionist/seafaring, so we should capitalize agressively on both scouts and curraghs.

Turn 1 - 3950BC

Moved the scout 2 SE onto the hill. There's a goody hut, and more grassland. There's also looks like coast (coastline or lake) 3 tiles SW. Started irragating the cattle. (It's not going to be a perfect settler factory, but pretty close).

Turn 2 - 3900BC

Scout opens the goodyhut - 25g. Ok, we'll live with that. Scout then heads south. Nothing too spectacular this turn.

Turn 3 - 3850BC

Scout goes 2 tiles S, and sees another goody hut. There's also coastlines to the south and east.

Turn 4 - 3800BC

Scout goes 2 W, and pops the goodyhut, giving us a warrior. There's a river, silks, and mountains to the south. That coast in the middle of the area is indeed a lake.

Turn 5 - 3750BC

Lisbon: Scout > Warrior (5)

The Lisbon scout heads SW, and reveals a few more tiles of grassland and forest. The scout in the center steps on the mountain to uncover the remaining fog. That scout will head 2 S next turn. The warrior goes to explore the corner.

Turn 6 - 3700BC

The mountain scout heads south and reveals desert. The Lisbon scout heads SW, and reveals more grassland, and another river.

**HAPPINESS CHECK!** Lisbon just grew this turn! It has 1 content and 1 unhappy citizen. Writing also comes down in research to 30 turns. The lux slider is increased to 10%

**MICROMANAGEMENT CHECK!** Lisbon just grew this turn, so... time to check the tiles. Because it's making surpluss food, the game puts the 2nd tile on the forest. The warrior is done in 2 turns (4 shields - 6 to go). Right now, Lisbon is making 4spt (8 shields in 2 turns, wasting 2). Instead of wasting 2 shields, I move the tile to a bonus grassland next to a lake. It's now at 3spt, and growth in 5 instead of 7.

Turn 7 - 3650BC

North scout (Lison) goes SW, and pops another goody hut - maps of the area. There's 2 more sources of ivory, and 1 wheat by a river. The southern scout heads south, and sees forest game, and an oasis.

Turn 8 - 3600BC

Lisbon: Warrior > Granary

The worker is finished irragating and roading the cattle, and I move it to the bonus tile that's being worked on. The city now has a garrison, so I lower the lux slider to 0%. The granary's done in 20 turns, but it can be pop-rushed.

Turn 9 - 3550BC

More exploring.

Turn 10 - 3550BC

More exploring. It seems the land ends in the south, so we don't have anything to worry about in terms of civs from the north, east and south. There's more land to the west. Lisbon also expands.

Turn 11 - 3450BC

More exploring.

Turn 12 - 3400BC

More exploring. Lisbon grows to size 3.

**HAPPINESS CHECK!** Lisbon has 2 content, and 1 unhappy citizen. Lux raised to 10%. Science lowered to 80%

**MM CHECK!** I also remove the new tile off of the forest, and onto a bonus grassland tile. I want the city to grow so that the granary can be whipped.

Turn 13 - 3350BC

The northern scout now sees a blue border. It's Germany. Germany has Bronze Working and Warrior Code. We have Alphabet and Pottery. They will only give us 1 tech each for the Alphabet. I opt to wait until we meet another civ. BW and WC are essentially at First Civ Price right now.

Turn 14 - 3300BC

More Exploring. Diplo check with Germany - no change.

Turn 15 - 3250BC

Found a goodyhut SE of Berlin - area map. There's coast to the south. Looks like there's a thick 6-tile landbridge to our west.

Turn 16 - 3200BC

The mine in Lisbon is done, and the worker starts a road. The 'southern scout' spots another goody hut (to be popped next turn).

Turn 17 - 3150BC

The goodyhut gives us Cerimonial Burial. The northern scout sees yet another goody hut to the west! Lisbon grows this turn. The Granary can also be pop-rushed (saves 2 turns). In the meanwhile, it can build a curragh. I raise the lux rate to 30%, and lower science to 60%. Germany will give us Warrior Code and Bronze Working for the Alphabet, Cerimonial Burial and Pottery. This is still steep, and I'd rather wait until another civ is found.

Turn 18 - 3100BC

Lisbon: Granary > Curragh (4)

ARGH!!!! We get a free city from that goody hut, BUT... It's on plains (stalled growth at size 2), and it's near Germany! This is the one thing I hate about the expansionist trait (the one thing I hated about Civ2. :)). I set it to a Scout. Maybe we can somehow use the coast to try and cut off Germany.

Turn 19 - 3050BC

More exploring. There's coast to the west. It may be just us and Germany on this continent...

Turn 20 - 3000BC

More exploring. A conscript warrior that we found is now garrisoned in Lisbon as a happiness garrison. The lux slider is lowered to 10%, and science raised to 70%.

CG2SG_3000BC_homefront.jpg

This is the homefront, and since Germany may very well be our only neighbor, we'll have to expand towards the circled area. A dot map will also need to be drawn up. There's a curragh being built, and should be sent east. NO suicide curragh runs until we know that we're alone. There's also trade possibilities, but I'm hoping we find other civs first.

CG2SG_3000BC_explore.jpg

This is where we should explore. I made a dotted line because I don't know what's in that area - it could lead to the rest of the continent.

Game Save

It's a very nice start. I've had many starts in C3C where I immediately get crowded by the AIs. I didn't know it was a good idea to whip a granary in the capitol. Do you do this only when you have a food bonus?

Turn 0 - 3000 BC
Increased science to 90%, we can afford some loss of money (only -1/turn). Ends turn.

Turn 1 - 2950 BC
Moves Pedro (scout 1) to the mountain, I see some incense, and more plains and some hills, and a new river. Can't see the southern coast yet.
Moves Rodrigues two tiles south. We can now see the southern coast there, so it seems like the continent ends here. There is some sugar here, and a grassland tile, plus a whale in the sea to the west.

Turn 2 - 2900 BC
The Curragh is complete, sets the new production to Settler. Lisbon also grew, so I'll check the city to see if we need happiness or to MM. As I already knew, one of the citizens are unhappy, so that calls for some entertainment funding.
Increase entertainment funding to 20% and therefor the Science Funding becomes 80%. With Writing in 14 turns.
Pedro sees some Floodplains, and Rodrigues finds some desert and incense, and coast. The continent ends there.
The great expedition of Colombus sets sail and promises great riches and new places to explore.

Turn 3 - 2850 BC
Rodrigues finds some valuable Whale resources. And Pedro finds more floodplains, actually a area with 5 floodplain tiles and no desert!

Turn 4 - 2800 BC
Pedro finds some marshes and spices, and it seems to be more land here then I first believed.
Rodrigues is now heading north towards Germany.

Turn 5 - 2750 BC
Nothing much, Pedro finds more grasslands.
Lisbon is growing to size 4 next turn, and it's getting too much food. But there is nothing that can done to get more shields and still make the city grow. So the tiles stay the same.
Next turn the the worker has finished mining the bonus tile aswell.
And if you didn't know it, when it comes to food and such, the city gets the food before production so that means the city will grow, then the 4th citizen will be placed by the game, and then all shields will be aquired. This can sometimes be exploited to earn One turn on a production. This can't be exploited in this instance however.

Turn 6 - 2710 BC
Instead of using the 4th civ as a citizen I increase the entertainment and use her as a scientist. This earns us 1 turn on the research. 7 Turns left on writing.
Gotta love the new specialists :)
Builds a road with the worker, commerce is important.

Turn 7 - 2670 BC
Contacts the English with Pedro, they are on the same continent, which is bigger then I first thought. They have Bronze Working, Masonry and Warrior Code. We have nothing they don't.
Pedro gets an idea. I contact the Germans and trades the Wheel from them, I give them Pottery and Ceremonial Burial plus 14 gold for it.
I trade the Wheel to the English for Warrior Code and Bronze Working, plus I get 2 gold. I tried to get Masonry instead of either Warrior Code or Bronze, but they wouldn't give it to me.
I accidently moved Pedro north while going from Civ3 to Notepad... :(
Changed the entertainment to 10% again, and science to 90%.
The Scientist is now gone, so now we get writing in 8 turns.
The reason why we need to have entertainment as well as our 2 garrisons, is because we have pop rushed the granary.

Turn 8 - 2630 BC
The Scout is finished in Oporto, set the next item to Worker.
Btw, we got no horses close to us, the only horse resource I can see is quite close to the Germans.

Turn 9 - 2590 BC
Lisbon will grow next turn, with 1 food. So therefor I move the citizen working the cow to the 2nd Mined bonus tile for more shields. And still city growth.
The worker is moved to the Ivory tile.

Turn 10 - 2550 BC
The city of Guimarães is built, 3 tiles from the capital. With an ability to borrow the cow from Lisbon when necessary. It got a possible 4 Bonus tiles, and in the future 4 Hills and a mountain, and 4 plain tiles. This will be a monster in the industrial age when it comes to production. Especially if we are lucky enough to have both Iron and Coal within it's borders.
Pedro finds the southern landbridge to be filled with Jungle, so that will probably stop the English expansion a bit.
Our 3rd scout, Sanchez, is heading north on the west side of Germany. While Rodriguez is going the eastern side of them.
The entertainment is raised to 20%. Writing will be ours in 4 turns.

We could build the Collossus in the Capital, if we want to, the capital has the productivity for it, and it could be a prebuild for some other wonder like the Statue of Zeus. But it's set to build a Settler for now finished in 3 turns, as is the growth of the city.
The new city can borrow the cow if you want to, but that will hurt the growth of Lisbon. But it can be done whenever you see it as a good thing.

Some screenshots:

So a question, should we build the Collosus (or use it as a prebuild) in the Capital. It will hurt our expansion a bit. But lets face it, there is not much competion near enough, and an early wonder will be great for commerce.

I'd kind of like to expand as much as possible, especially since Germany's the only other civ in the area - we're kind of isolated, and we could fill that space up for ourselves.

Yep, we are going in order of the roster in the first post. By the look of the list. You Eric, are up next

eric2075 has untill 7:23pm EST to pick up the save. (24hr pick up time enforcing)

I know I have to enforce the time since I myself was kicked out of a SG for not picking it up. I dont want to see the same thing to happen to my fellow SGer.

Here's a possible map layout, trying to fill in all tiles.

EDIT: The file upload server doesn't seem to be working this morning - I'll try later in the afternoon.
