Civilization 5 musical themes

Which section (s) of the in-game music did you dislike? European or Middle Eastern or Asian or Native American? Also does the Civ4 soundtrack have other types of music than Classical? I haven't listened to it much. Perhaps in-game music for 5 should have been remixed and made more modern like pop?:cringe:

Did a quick search on Youtube for possibly Ramkhamhaeng inspiration

1. The sound of frogs (Thailand) sukritact, any Thai name for this listed in the book?

2. Chinese ensemble with song “Chung we meng” (Thailand) no luck so far

3. Classical pinn peat dance piece “Thep monorom” (Cambodia) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cMoUU6m2cI

4. Salaw seung pi ensemble (northern Thailand) no luck

5. Lam sing repartee song (northeast Thailand) what is a repartee?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psAEOKqeBcg

6. Accompanied lam salavane repartee song (southern Laos)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpEywUmPC_o a remix though….

7. Kyo classical song (Burma)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bJCoTIlaOQ same one or similar?

8. Nhac le ritual ensemble (Vietnam) seems like a type of music using a specific set of instrument

9. Khap repartee singing (upland Vietnam) no luck

10. Gong ensemble with song “Yong Thoach” (upland Vietnam) no luck

11. East Javanese gamelan piece “Srempeg” (Java)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vezWaMh3M0 not specific piece but with same instrument
This probably inspired the Kuala Lumpur Theme, I'm sure Malay music is quite similar to Indonesian :):)
12. Accompanied cakepung song “Pemungkah” (Bali)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8hTSj-5X4Q not sure if same exact song

13. Shadow play music “Telaga dundan” (Lombok) I know what shadow plays are, in Malay, they are called Wayang kulit

14. Gong, drum, and xylophone ensemble (Philippines) not specific of a name, any native Tagalog/Filipino music.

15. Song “Kulilal ni puguq” accompanied by tube zither
(upland Philippines) no luck on youtube

so Rammy's themes are prolly based on the Thai music (dancing ones?)
Kuala Lumpur theme based on Javanese music
Hanoi theme possibly based on Vietnamese music
Singapore is unknown, though likely Chinese
Seoul is presumed to be Korean music
Almaty is possibly Central Asia music (haven't really listened to any yet)

I had to record the city-state music with my laptop. Bad sound quality but oh well. Strangely, the only music that can't be found in the files

Anyone wonder what the war themes in Civ4 would have been like? Cooler?

Hmm, What kind of instruments are used in this according to the book?

Just an unrelated question sukritact, where is the star in Siam's icons from? Is it a symbol for Sukhothai or Ramkhamhaeng?

The music of Civ V is one of the things the game got (almost) right since its release. Now if only the music was more period oriented...hearing classical music during the stone age is somewhat distracting.

It seems like Siam and Songhai symbols are the only ones I don't know.

Anyways, I think they should add more Africa tracks for Civs like the Zulu. Maybe other Asian music (Mongolia, Central Asia, Korea, more Southeast Asia). Polynesian music would be good too.

FWIW I love love love Oda's peace theme.

BTW can you add music to the folders? The Middle Eastern tracks are getting tired...

Hey, does anyone know if there exists a version of the music from the opening movie (with the father narrating the dream) without the voice or sound effects? I really love the music, and I've got a hunch that theme without other stuff would be excellent as a main menu music.

Here is a youtube video of the music without the SFX, but I dunno where you can get a raw file of it.

Elizabeth's peace theme (I Vow to Thee My Country) is definitely my favorite. I'm not from England and thus had never heard the song until I played Civ 5. Fell in love with it the first game I played England. (:

I think Kuala Lumpur and Hanoi's music kicks butt compared to the other cs. Siam and Greece have the best leader themes though. I wish they brought the volga boatsman back for Russia.
