If the real word was a really feature rich Civilization game, lets say Civ 6 :D

And we had gotten through to turn 2012 and we had a player as the US and a player as China, which player would you rather be?

I was discussing this the other day and it feels like in maybe 10 or 20 turns from now China would be the dominant player in the game, almost like they are biding their time and massing up there resources while playing the diplomacy game.

The US player is busy dealing with Civil Disorder in their towns and unhappy citizens from troops being away, might have more units fortified and more dominant units, but distracted by being on a technology/research game.

I would love to see the outcome of this game. how would you handle grand strategy and moving units across the pacific ocean?

I would have taken out China 10-20 turns back ;)

What's the ruleset for Civ 6?

I would take China...then hold a revolution that might take a few turns to get out of due to the massive amount of change going on.

US

Convert all production to Space Victory, rush all that I can, and leave.

Oh, one more thing. Now that our Civics are pretty much the same, sign a defensive pact with the USA.

So that when they attack us, USA declares war on them as well.

US

Civics: Universal Suffrage, Free Speech, Environmentalism, Free Religion
Replace all Coal-Plants with Renewable Energy to avoid a global warming catastrophe
Rebuild infrastructure to increase commerce and production
Set the science slider to maximum then do defensive spending on espionage
Get rid of most of the nuclear weapons stockpile
Increase the number of science specialists
Victory: Space Race won by 2050

Why can't I pick Russia ? They have the most nukes.

I would get China to win the Space Race, as they clearly have the best production - Put all production on Space Race, get spies to spy on America, but keep the Civics as there is very limited time now. Put all money on the science slider to research techs needed, such as fusion.

I'd play the Mongols and kick the crap out of China. :D

China could never overcome America before the latter wins a space race (even if you think China's economic growth won't slow down greatly in the future). Remember, today, America's economy is still three times (or whatever it is) larger than China's.

Neither will win a diplomatic victory anytime soon.

China is old, but having the Great Wall since pretty much the start of the game won't secure that victory, and America is far too young to win, as well.

In conclusion, I don't know how one would win as China. You would need to attack America in desperation, which considering the fact that America's navy could hold its own against the rest of the world combined could never work.

As the Chinese player I would just nuke the crap out of America and then quit.

If rl was civ, the us player is a noob. He had the game bagged and ready to go, but now he might not get the victory.

He couldve switched to state property and just steamrolled. Or finish his space victory. But he went forhalf assed diplo/culture win.

There still is however, the mass nuke into chain vassalization backup plan.

I'd play as USA and use all my nukes to destroy Earth. Problems solved.
