Civilization 7 Soundtrack/Music discussion

Soundtrack is out on Spotify! Including the ambient themes excitingly, with four per age. Two from each age are indeed war themes! Assuming that's all of the ambients, hopefully we'll get more soon bc that aint many.
Edit: The mystery of Trung Trac's video music has been solved? Nation Against Nation (Antiquity Age Ambience 1 War)

I really hope this is just a selection of a few Ambient tracks, because 4 per age is nothing. Civ VI has like 3-6 of them for each Civ.
Yep, this is a rare miss from the Civ music department. The ambient pieces are nice but they begin to grate when you're hearing them so frequently (one after every Civ-specific theme — in a game with 8 civs, you're hearing each ambient theme 4x as frequently as the more exciting stuff)

These ambients are original compositions, right? If so I think it's a missed opportunity that none of the tracks seem to reference classic civ tunes from civ 1 to 4. I think their return reimagined in Civ 7 style would have been pretty cool. Maybe new tracks with upcoming patches/DLCs/expansions could reference them?

Really enjoying the various civ music and the ambient themes, in particular the modern ambient theme.
Also noticed the smaller quantity though. And if I had to nitpick, one thing I miss about past titles though - civ V in particular, was the ambient soundtrack based on actual compositions and folk music from around the world for different cultures. I think with great works missing too, VII sometimes feels like less of a 'celebration' of humanity than the predecessors. Not something that would be hard to correct with mods though mixed together with the original score,

Looks like the composers didn't have time to compose more ambient music or were allotted less money for it. I wish there were 1-2 ambient themes for each Civ based on actual traditional music.

Is anyone else beginning to find the soundtrack repetitive already? I think the game has a heavy bias towards your Civ theme and Age ambients as opposed to the themes of other players, which has led to some undesirable results.

I want to play Greece. I love Greece. Greece is strong, fun to play, and synergistic. But if I have to hear that repetitive chant one more time I think I might cry

(this has only been exacerbated by Lafayette appearing in almost all of my non-Greece games and picking Greece every Antiquity Age without fail...)

There are way fewer tracks than in Civ VI base game. There, each Civ had about four tracks that kept playing through the whole game, while one evolved.

On top of that, the tracks were more spaced out (with longer times of dead silence) and there were even tracks of dead silence in the game.

I've been playing with the idea of modding Civ VI ambient songs and the ancient era songs per Civ into the game, linking them to appropriate Civs in VII if possible or most appropriate. This would mean Cree music for North American Civs and China for Han, Ming and Qing, etc.

Now, I have never made a mod and I barely have time, but I do have this in the back of my head.

My current bête noire is the Hawai'i theme (with the Rome drone a close second) although when the Cree first released in Civ VI I had a stronger reaction to their theme and now it's on my Spotify playlist of my favourite Civ VI songs. My wife asked for that playlist to be on while she gave birth to our first - it has that big a place in our hearts. The Maya, Khmer, Greece, Byzantine themes all give me goosebumps for different reasons.

I loved the way the themes evolved as the eras progressed in Civ VI and with so many standout songs, I think part of the reason I've not fallen in love with Civ VII is I'm noticing (and mourning) the change in musical style. Everything feels much more ambient now (like in Civ V) and while the music is beautiful, I used to love the crescendos of the Civ VII songs in the later eras - they felt like they were spurring me on to victory or reflecting the drama of a big war. Perhaps having different songs for peace and war for each Civ would help a little here.

I think it doesn’t help that there aren’t Civ unique ambients meaning that chances are you’ll be hearing the same era-based ambient over and over again (quite like how it was for Sumeria in Civ 6 before meeting anyone as they had no ambients)
The era based ambients are fine but there needs to be more civ based ones to make it less repetitive (As well as the game being a little less biased in terms of what theme to play).

I don't think I'll ever get sick of Stand Firm (one of the modern age war ambients) or some of the civ bangers (eg. maya, inka, mexico), but yeah a few tracks are starting to get repetitive. More breaks of silence between them would help imo.

weird how the Mausoleum of Theodoric wonder video uses the Roman theme.
