My girlfriends favorite game is civilization, and since her birthday is on the same day that the new expansion, Brave New World comes out I thought it would be cool to throw her a civilization themed birthday, but I haven't the slightest clue on how to pull it off, besides the obvious civ themed cake. Any ideas? She's turning 20.

GIANT DEATH ROBOTS EVERYWHERE!

On a serious note (kinda hard with a question like this) I'm not really sure how you would pull something like this off. There are 5 civ games, so first find out her favorite. Next, play the game a bit so you know what you are throwing a party with that theme about. Other than that, I'm not sure. Maybe you should stick with something simpler, as Civ is very complex and I would advise to choose a different theme. But that's an AWESOME idea.

Food ideas:
Deer jerky
Wheat thins
Sheep kabobs
Steak
Pork chops (with mushroom trimming)

Also.. someone's gotta show-up dressed as that snotty Queen Elizabeth, keeping in character, condescending and insulting the party guests. It'd make for great comedy, especially if someone else shows-up dressed as Monty so that they could play off of each other.

Another idea! The birthday cake could be shaped like the Huns' UU.. the battering ram.

(Just a few stream-of-consciousness ideas- whatever popped into my head..).

Its a cool idea, kind of hard to implement though. Perhaps record a birthday card in the 9 languages of the 9 new civs of the expansion and a thematic cake :p?

Have 11 seats to the table you serve the cake on. One for the birthday girl, but only the people in the three chairs just next to her are allowed any food.

Make someone show up as Suleiman and be a total douchebag the entire party.

"all u guys suck the big one im da best scrubs #osMANLY #29may1453"

Have I ever told you guys I hate Suleiman? I often have dreams where I throw my shoes at him and put his giant turban in a not-so-nice place. Except not really. But you get the picture.

Yeah you better hang onto her.

Yeah I knew it would be a difficult themed party, but seeing as how her birthday is the same day as BNW release I feel like I have to do something lol but maybe just a themed cake and a card in the form of a trade agreement lol

All the ideas posted above are great, I just wanted to add that your girlfriend is a keeper!

Tell everyone to come dressed as a historical leader.

Thats what I thought when I read what the OP posted. It shouldn't be difficult to dress up as Washington, Alexander, Suleiman, Shaka, Ramses etc.

Invite the annoying neighbor from next door who nobody likes and call him Alexander.

Cool I'll come in as Gandhi the great. I'll be holding a red button with this :nuke: on it and Look sad as I get into fistfights with Elisabeth, Monty, and Suleiman.

Well, the way I see it, you either invite a lot of people in and have a realCiv-themed party (with everyone dressing up as suggested above, and games like "Enrico Dandolo's Bluff" and "Pin the Turban on the Ottoman Sultan") or you just have yourself a multiplayer match while playing around with the new BNW features. Either way, sounds like you have a good girlfriend!

Have everyone in the party seperated in two by a line of glass' of water, and only allow them to cross and communicate across when someone builds a telescope.

Have someone dress up as William of Orange, because I have always wanted to see that costume. He looks hilarious with those pants. Make him try to speak dutch - if he fails, make him drunk and tell him to try again for great success.

Anyway, having everyone dress up is probably the most pressing part of your party :)

I could be Attila and enter your house by knocking down the door with a battering ram!

That would be Hilarius but expensive as well

The guy who dresses up as William gets a bonus part on the cake, by virtue of traveling the distance to your house only on pants.

Double check she'd be ok with that as a theme - does she want to disclose her love of Civ V to all her friends?

How about a foodstuff from each of the new civilizations? Brazil & Portugal is easy - Peri Peri chicken. Assyria - something generic from the Middle East like Falafel. Zulu - Jerky/Biltong (bonus points if you can get some proper African stuff). From Poland, perhaps some Smoked Cheese, Indonesian Spring Rolls, Moroccan Tagine and from Venice (?), Pizza and the Shosone (?)...well, they are known as the sheep-eaters so perhaps something lamb based.

As for the cake - either a generic picture or perhaps something in the form of her favourite Wonder (Neuschwanstein allows complete creativity).

Oh, be sure to have some wine, some citrus, some truffles, something Spicy, some crab, something Sugary and give her some Jewellery or Porcelain. Or copper.

you are such a lucky guy to have a girl friend who loves Civ.In my mind , most girls dont like video games ,especially those which are based on historic and strategic themes
i wish i had a girl like yours.lol
