Civilization V Announced!

Wouldn't it be funny if on 1 April Firaxis issued a press release that said "April Fools"?

No, it wouldn't.

I dont know where people get this information, but if it is just because the pictures did not have a way of showing multiple units in one tile because all the UI was left out, then we can expect a lot of things not to be there. The feature list mentions a more spread out battlefield, but that is all. Maybe there a limit to the number of units in one tile, maybe theres direct disadvantages of stacking - we dont know.

Rumors/speculation is not facts.

Hence the reason I stated 'the possibility'. I never implied it was fact. If it is indeed based off Panzer General game, then 1 unit per tile is correct... but until 2K verifies, it is unknown for sure.

Was stated in another thread:
This is a Panzer General (PG) unit. Each of these units is working more like an army in civ 3 as it has several strength points (if I remember well there could have been up to 10 simmilar units in such a normal PG unit - and if "overpowered" even more). So if you count the single men in one tile of the screenshots, may be you could get a hint how many units of a certain type can be assembled in such a "PG"-unit.

PG-combat could be a real advantage over the current battle systems used in each version of civ: When think about the different hardattack- (against tanks and other armoured targets) and soft attack values in PG against infantry and trucks) this is a feature I often wished it would be integrated in Civ 3, too.

So Panzer General combat can have advantages over the combat flaws present in both Civ 3 and Civ 4...

Wow, I go AWOL for a *WEEK* & the biggest civ-related announcement in over 4 years just happens to hit the airwaves within that 7-day period...

I've been AWOL for a few months now, and just hearing the news as of today, well... I guess it's time to crawl back out from underneath my rock.

Let the waiting begin... :yeah:

I come to check on here after a long while to find out that Civ5 is coming. :w00t:

I orgasm'd a little when I saw this.

So this means we might see it really sometime next year? Remember when civ4 was coming out? Don't hold your breath.

I just noticed that steam ( http://store.steampowered.com/app/50100/ ) has been bold enough not only to mention the game will be released in Fall 2010 but to also give an exact release date. This hasn't been mentioned in here yet so is this a new addition?

Available: 2 September 2010

This game will unlock in approximately 6 months, 3 weeks, and 20 hours

Time to start scheduling in our holidays from work...

I might be geting getting rumors but will or will their not be religions?
There was a reference made in a review that Religion was not going to a factor like it is in Civ4. Many are taking this as a report that Religion has been removed from the game. We will just have to wait and see.

Then again, it was a rumor that went through at the very least Apolyton and Paradox before getting here, and was translated from Danish, and has some other things on it that don't seem like they're true, so it's probably just a rumor.

Yeah, saying Religion isn't in the game based on a Danish---->English translation is probably not safe to go on! In Danish it might have read more like "Religion won't work the way it did in Civ4, which might be a good-or bad-thing ;)!

EDIT: More to the point, Religion was-along with Civics-the biggest improvement in the game franchise (IMHO), so removing it would be a huge backward step-a step I doubt they'd take. I'm more inclined to believe that, as with Civics=Social Policy, Religion is simply going to be reworked (maybe even improved upon, like changing how they're founded, or having Social policy impact on the shape of your religion).

Aussie.

I hope that in CivV that they might actually change the co clothes depending on the time era. I hate to see Roosevelt all dressed up in fancy clothes in the classical era or Montezuma in loincloths in the Modern era.

Like in Civ 3?

I agree. Maybe the translation was meant to indicate something similar to 'Religions will matter less as the game enter modern eras' ? When you look at history the influence of religion goes from unquestioned (at the start of a civ game era) to 'almost' irrelevant in the modern era. Maybe Civ5 will incorporate this change more so than just a 'Free Religion' civic.
