Civilization VI announced

At some point I really want to take a look at the Beyond Earth code to see what changes they made. From what I've heard, it sounded like they at least made a concerted effort to make yields more unified, and potentially added more lua hooks to use. Even just improvements like this would help reduce some of the necessity of dummy buildings and the like.
That and stuff like City:GetNumberWorkedImprovements(ImprovementTYpe, ResourceType) would have been vastly helpful in Civ5, so here's hoping they added some methods like that to address the kinds of things modders are doing over and over and over, and each in a different way.

Particularly combat-related events and triggers. :P

Talking about Great People reminds me of Great Generals. GGs can steal land with citadels. Wonders now occupy tiles. Does this mean you can steal a wonder if a GG?

I have a feeling Great Tile Improvements might not return, instead I think Great People will provide benefits to their respective Districts - So I think Great Generals will not be able to steal Wonders that way. However, if Great People can still create Great Tile Improvements, I don't think they'd allow the Great General to steal Wonders with a Citadel because that'd be way too easy (though you could probably still steal the tiles around it)

Another question I have about wonders: will they be passable? Their model is quite big, and so are the unit models. It'd look quite weird if they were, but it doesn't make much sense if they are. It'd also be possible to use them to block choke points using them, unless, of course, they're pillageable.

If you want more than guesswork reflective of hopes, dreams, and attempts to surmise data from vague screencaps, you really need to ask Ed Beach specific questions about the Civ6 mechanics.

I'll ring him up, shall i?

Admittedly, this is one of the reasons why I'm currently just kind of ambivalent about Civ 6. Once it actually comes out I'll certainly pick it up to try playing, and over the summer as we learn more details my interest may increase, but for right now I'd just prefer to focus on the things I currently want to get working in Civ 5. :P

I need to just stop going to the CiVI forums and stick to this thread and Arioch's site. It's just sad.

In side news, I felt underwhelmed playing CiV for a while after the VI announcement because I didn't have the shiny new thing. I went through a bunch of other games in quick succession before I went back to CiV because it's still the most enjoyable game I have in my library.

Jesus Christ, I only read 3 pages on one thread and the amount of Social Darwinism, Nazi Apologia, and historical misconceptions is frightening.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to how they're apparently going to do away with the whole "there's only one good set of policies to take" thing. I hope they also expand upon the government and politics in general so we can have things like rebellions and government buildings besides the courthouse.

It's pretty obvious that it's him and at the very least Quill18. Those two are by far the biggest Civ-playing youtubers at the moment. It's a free - or otherwise a very cheap - method of building hype.

Just as allowing modding is a free device to prolong a game's lifespan. :p

We're part of the machine.

And independence. Independence should definitely be in. Just not sure if I'd rather have the separatistis become a different civ or city-states.

City States would be easier.
