[LP] Civilization VI: Leader Pass - Discussion Thread

Does anyone have any information regarding whether the console versions might be getting the Leader Pass, Julius Caesar, etc.? They're the primary way I play multiplayer with my friends, around the living room as we pass the mouse/controller (although I do miss the Leader and Wonder animations when we're playing; I realize that's to expedite the turns but it would be nice to have the option to turn them on/off for the benefit of my friends who don't own a copy). I hope Firaxis will continue to keep all of the platforms equally supported, at any rate.

As of now they do not seem to have any dates or plans on having this on Consoles, which, from what I've heard may be due to dififculties with the port company (Aspyr) that they used to rely on.

So, quick question to you all: Are you going to wait until the First Look video drops to try the new Leaders, or will you just jump right into the game without waiting?
Honestly, it depends. I'm on West Coast US time as of recently, so I'm enjoying the fact that games come out effectively 3 hours earlier for me than they used to. I might just jump in... but I really love the First Look videos for getting hyped about something.

I hope he just gets his Civ IV abilities as is and it makes him grumpier than ever

Half price Encampments and Walls. Nothing else but anger

I imagine we are getting pack 2 in december, pack 3 early jan, pack 4 late jan, pack 5 mid feb and obviously pack 6 in march 2nd.

I'm mostly interested in the last 3 packs. And i'm superhyped to see a historically accurate Cleopatra in a videogame for... Like the first time ever, i think. I also think they'll go for a more historically accurate Theodora like her concept art for Civ5

And Widow Vicky. I doubt they'll remodel her to be older so i think she'll more or less cosplay and compromise around here. She'll most likely wear the tiny crown tho

Hojo already has half priced encampments, so I don't think that will be it. Honestly Tokugawa really puzzles me, unless they want to make him more militaristic and domination oriented than Hojo already is.

That doesn't really convey the Age of Steam like they are going for. I picture her in the Crystal Palace during the Great Exhibition and the dress she wore there.

My theory is that Tokugawa will do stuff that Hojo does, but in a different approach. Like, I think Tokugawa will get a % Culture boost in cities with a Samurai garrison. This will encourage you to keep Samurai around longer than they become obsolete, which matches how the Samurai class in Edo Japan became poet-warriors and stayed relevant much longer than their knightly counterparts in Europe.

That makes the most sense. I wouldn't be surprised if they also contribute toward more gold to go along the idea of them being feudal lords. That would fit with the theme of Great Commanders.

Honestly, I think it would have been better if they gave Hojo another persona and split his abilities. I would have given him a Zen form that could have focused on the culture and religious aspects.

Indeed. Tokugawa brought about a long period of relative peace after more than a century of strife and discord by redistributing the daimyos and creating a rigid code of conduct for the samurai class. I would expect Culture, Loyalty, Wealth, and maybe Faith to flourish under Tokugawa. I don't really see him as a warmonger. A capable commander, sure, but someone who strives for order, not destruction.

Don't want to sound too ungrateful for getting something with no extra cost...but no mentioning of patches/bugfixes coming with the releases? (And yes, we reached the first release, so there is still technically a chance...which I consider as very low though - why no marketing of the free patches coming along then, like it was done for NFP?)

I had some hope for a final patch after the steam depots got detected and was curious, if that could draw me back into Civ (Humankind was the first step of pulling me away and now Old World stole me completely)
But as sad as it sounds...now it is even another pass of multiple releases, I'm getting it for free)...and still I'm zero hyped or even interested in the details of those new leaders. I can't even motivate me to watch the vids. The outlook that all the new leaders (which may be "good" itself, don't want to critize an effort I had no real look at!) will likely enter a game with exactly the same bugs/issues it had the last time I touched it...sorry, I'm out here then

Nah, it's understandable. If someone trashes your car...getting you an air freshener isn't going to do anything for you, even if you'd normally really enjoy one.

That said, they seem to be playing their cards close to their chest with this one...so hope isn't lost yet.

That said, I'm looking very pointedly in their direction. If anything, if they don't fix the game, it'll make things worse for me. They have had the opportunity to fix it...and didn't take it. Rather than listening to our needs and concerns, and fixing our very legitimate grievances, they essentially said: "Hey, look! Shiny things!" Very condescending. It doesn't even make sense - the LP must have cost a pretty penny, it would have been cheaper to just fix the bugs.

Still, that's hypothetical. I'm hoping that they just didn't want to mention the BF word because it sounds bad, confessing that they left the game broken for a year and a half, and wanted to keep the positive note.

I'll guess we'll see on Monday.

Any idea when we will get first look at first set of leaders? When will we know more about these 3 sets of leaders?

Is it possible they'll wait until closer to the end of the LP season, to see if any bugs/balance issues arise with the new/alt leaders? And then hopefully capture/fix the well odcumented issues in addition to any potential new ones?

"From the first stirrings of life beneath water... to the great beasts of the Stone Age... to man taking his first upright steps, you have come far. Now begins your greatest quest: from this early cradle of civilization on towards the stars.
For Heaven's sake FIX THIS! The Stone Age could not begin until man was taking upright steps and making stone tools. This text was written by some very ignorant person.

Possible? Sure. Anything is possible.

It's less likely though, in my estimation. They've had 18 months to identify and come up with fixes for the various bugs, and if I were them, I'd want to frontload all the work I possibly could so the team could focus purely on the inevitable bugs that come with the new leaders (I say that not to be negative or a doomsayer, but to recognise that it's the nature of the beast in games that there will be bugs) rather than trying to juggle those while also trying fix the various bugs.

Of course, it could be that this is being rushed and they didn't have time to finish the patch and get this out in time for their schedule (start before Christmas? Civ 7 announcement in March/April? Another pack?), so they're releasing it while the patch is being finished (such a rush wouldn't bode well for the quality of this pack either). Still, I think it's much more likely that they're just not wanting to drag down the tone of the announcement of freebies with talk of bugs or they're just not doing anything about the bugs (I mean, the biggest would take 30s to fix, and they haven't done anything about it despite knowing exactly what the problem was for well over a year now, so it's not that outlandish that they've decided to ignore it).

Perhaps you have a different assessment of the likelihoods etc, but that's my take on it
