Civilization VII - Gameplay Trailer/Showcase - Civilizations & Leaders Shown

They managed to identify a mention of Sepé Tiaraju, perhaps being a leader. And the wonder of the Palácio de Belas Artes may indicate Mexico as a modern civilization.
Having seen another wonder screen now, I can confirm that it's just a quote for the natural wonder and that there's no confirmation of Sepé Tiaraju being a leader.

For now, I am assuming Guarani is a potential minor power, just like the Mixtec, Magyars and Slavs.

After this change, will we finally have civilizations like Olmec and Indus Valley as playable civilizations?
Wouldn't they still need voiced leaders? I doubt it.

Did I post this one here yet?

So BASICALLY, the same leader selection criteria as Ara: History Untold (which has leaders such as Sappho, Cesare Beccaria and Jeanne d'Arc alongside the usual monarchs, chancellors and prime ministers)

I mean, they could have gone with the leader criteria of the board game "Through the Ages" - and had Sid Meier as a leader option :)

So I assume the base game Mesoamerican Civ are the Aztecs? I don't see any indication of Persia being in the base game. With that Babylonian wonder or district, Babylon might be in.

Thought this was interesting - first example of an “active” ability in a leader?

Napoleon's Emperor Persona specializes in commerce and military might, with a new Unique Ability: Empereur des Français, which reduces the Trade Route capacity for a target civilization and causes massive Grievances. He also gets bonus Gold per Age for every leader he's Unfriendly or Hostile with, but less Gold per Age for every leader who sees him as Friendly or Helpful.

Amina as Songhai leader doesn’t make sense as she led the Hausa
either not all civs have leaders and vice versa, or Firaxis messed up and made a Hausa queen the leader of the Songhai--but if you see the Songhai page when the eras pass, the leader who gets free access to the Songhai is Amina

It’s entirely possible, and no one seems to have said it, that Hausa is it’s own civ for Amina to lead but Songhai is a potential choice. But no idea…weird to pick her as the Songhai connection if so.

Wouldn't the Songhai then have its own leader to choose from? But there was no fourth checkbox for a Songhai leader to get automatic access to the civ.

It's very disappointing if they've started doing the thing they used to do where they'll often put random leaders in charge of civs that they have nothing to do with. Thought they'd been really trying to be more historically accurate and mindful since Civ 6

Definitely Inca

I rather think that's that. It is my impression that they picked leaders and civilizations semi-independently, and the "this leader has access to this civ" does not mean "this is the actual leader of that civ" but rather "this leader has the most connections to that civ, however limited that may be, out of all the leaders in the game."

Which probably mean we shouldn't expect an Axum leader,as Hatshepsut is marked as the "Historical" choice for that kingdom too.

I suspect we will end up in a situation, in the long run, where there will be far more civilizations than leaders.

We should remember this is a demo and an early build rather than a complete game and things are likely cut out/not shown intentionally so it will give me hope these are just examples for a showcase

In the official website, Vihara is listed under the Romans' unique infrastructure. This should be a mistake. Romans never built Vihara....

this is unfortunate if true, because I think it would've made more sense the other way around. Every civ should have a leader. If this is true, it means that the Hausa are in the game rather than unintentionally shoehorned into Songhai, whcih is an ask I've had for a long time, which is cool.

I do see why it is this way, since the new game mechanics means civs are far more important than leaders, when previously it was the other way around, or about equal. But still, I wish every civ at least had one leader of their own
