Civilization VII Update 1.1.0 - March 4, 2025

They didn't announce the big change - they moved the advertisement box away from the empty space and placed it over the bottom of the leader model. I'm not a graphic designer but this just seems a crazy choice to me!!

That was so odd to see, I would be extremely surprised if that was, like, on purpose

Yeah, they have definitely changed from the announcement on the website. And they are super fun (and especially so with Augustus).
I also noticed I am getting yields from city resources that I can't equip. I assume that is a Carthage only?

I completed military and econ paths in antiquity with augustus and Carthage but did not get credit for achieving both in antiquity. I wonder if it has to do with fact I lost silk roads with unhappiness. Shouldn't matter, but maybe?

Must be it because I also don't have the golden age legacy even though it said I earned it. I think you need to keep them.

What is your video resolution? 1080p? The screenshot is 1814x987? I presume that is 1920x1080 cropped for some reason. I'm curious how you got the screenshot. I use winkey+alt+printscreen.

The leader seems to be a certain distance from the menu, and the ad box is in the bottom corner. Here is my screen. It isn't covering the leader at all.

Yeah, I'm cheating with an ultrawide.

An interesting hidden change from the patch: Unassigned resources now provide +1 Gold and Happiness per age. I wonder what prompted this?
Yeah I commented on this a few posts up. It's odd it wasn't mentioned. I also can't tell...is it global? I couldn't tell it was doing anything.

I think that is cool. It makes them behave like generic amenities. It also makes every resource useful. I remember a game where I had 6 incense unassigned because they were basically worthless for me.

Also factory resources worth something before you get factories? Nice. I often start modern age with multiple rows of factory resources.

I think it already existed, but just wasn't mentioned in the tooltip. I may be mistaken, but I do remember unassigned resources doing something when I was looking at the game files

So, what are people's thoughts on the Culture victory? I tried it out this evening - to be honest, it is slightly slower, but not a huge amount so. Less annoying, and winning in the turn 30s is... I was going to say impossible but I'm sure there's a fanatic who'll do it.

I still wouldn't say that the modern era works especially well - it still just felt like a clickfest to wait until your project is done.

I think Ed mentioned they were planning to allow people to turn off victory types in one of the previews, and I hope this is coming sooner rather than later! I honestly think if you only won via score victory and actually had to play out the modern age fully, it would be just as engaging as the others.

I REALLY like Carthage though, and Ada is fun as hell. Britain probably would be a mechanical win too, albeit less of a flavour win, if the modern era was worth playing out.

It is! I've done it twice. You can do it anytime you like. The AI (probably) never triggers a victory, so just play the game. If you win, you win. If not, it is still fun.

This sounds like a classic PEBKAC error.

Don't worry, I've done it myself. Even posted it here.

Oops, sorry so much for the false alarm, I went to bed immediately last night after posting this. I will adjust my post in the Bug Report session as well. Sorry guys.

Thank you for this hint, I did not notice this.

But does this mean that Kaolin provides +1 Gold and Happines only when unassigned? So if you assign it, does Kaolin switch to providing its food bonus, or will you get both when assigned?

I do hope it is mutually exclusive, since this would give you an interesting choice between using the resource for a global yield bonus or boosting a specific city.

I'm pretty sure it's only when unassigned

Can anyone confirm if they fixed text for antiquity culture path so it either correctly does or does not count conquered wonders?
My support ticket about the related quest is still not planned, so I doubt anything has chaged: https://support.civilization.com/hc...-World-can-be-Completed-by-Conquering-Wonders

It's not new, I've asked (with no answer) in the little questions and answers thread if there were a hidden -1 Gold cost when slotting a Resource like 2 weeks ago.
