This guy looks more like a 17-18th century French cavalry officer than an Egyptian infantry man. The rifle looks newer still, like 19th to 20th century.
Suggestions:
Make his headgear a plain white turban. What he is wearing would be civ colored. As I understand it the color of the headdress has some significance to them. Also lose the jewelry on the head dress.
The boots are very high. Is he supposed to be a cavalry guy? Perhaps not quite so high?
Those old guns are terrifically heavy. He would seldom (if ever) hold it with one hand.
Delete the eplauts. They were almost always just for officers.
The weird mixture of Egyptian loincloth from the BC era and the cavalry pants from the 17th century doesn't work.
There were actual rifle/musket men in Egypt in this era and they looked nothing like this.
I suggest you at least loosely pattern the unit after those units that did exist there during this time.
For example:
The Mamluks (also spelled Mamelukes). They fought Napoleon and then later fought for him too. And outlasted his power in Egypt... They were basically knocked from major power in 1811.
From answers.com
During their service in Napoleon’s army, the Mamluk squadron wore the following uniform:
Before 1804: The only "uniform" part was the green cahouk (hat), white turban, and red saroual (pants), all to be worn with a loose shirt and a vest. Boots were of yellow, red or tan soft leather. Weapons consisted of an "Oriental" scimitar, a brace of pistols in a holder decorated with a brass crescent and star, and a dagger.
After 1804: The cahouk became red with a brass crescent and star and the shirt was closed and had a collar. The main change was the addition of a "regulation" chasseur-style saddle-cloth and roll, imperial green in color, piped red, with a red and white fringe. The saddle and harness remained Arabic in style. The undress uniform was as for the Chasseurs-a-Cheval of the Guard but of a dark blue cloth.
some sample uniforms that are more period and location appropriate.
another view... with his horse, as the Mamluks were typically mounted.
I think a plainer white turban like this Mamluk has on would look better in game.
Naturally there would be some variation in this attire, but unlike you French look, it would be more fitting for the region.
Also on another note. Please do not compare yourself to Kinboat, etc.
You are getting better. Your last unit was your best to date, but there is significant differences in skill between a master and an up and comer. Also, it is really tacky and an act of considerable hubris to toot your own horn. Leave that to others, trust me they will let you know when you have approached mastery in your skills.
Consider that your last unit, while more animated and with better detailing in that animation, and some nice things here and there (such as a some smoke, less stiff, etc) it was no where near Kinboat. The timing was off. Too many animation details were missing (still stiff, limited animation... didn't seem to breath the way say Kinboat’s Monk does (since you are comparing yourself to him)).
Work on adding more animation details. Keep his bits and pieces from poking through the clothing. Have all the props and such match the unit. Have him die without poking arms and legs through the ground, etc.
