Conquests Beta Patch Now Available

Thanks Firaxis (and Breakaway?!) for putting in the effort and not simply sighing and saying, "We'll do it in the new year." :)
It's not a favor to us for these incompetent developers to fix something that never should have been in the first place--we payed money for a working game, that is what we deserve and should have received without waiting for some sloppy sh-tbox patch!

1. It's 'paid', not 'payed' We don't *really* need spelling police, ChrTh. ;) --Padma
2. Get over yourself, no computer game comes out perfect nowadays, it's nigh-impossible to program for every possibility. The fact that the game is playable out of the box is a step above a lot of other games (TOEE comes cringingly to mind)

EDIT: I was just trying to distinguish from 'payed', which is past tense for
"To coat or cover (seams of a ship, for example) with waterproof material such as tar or asphalt." :)

Just be glad that they actually put effort to make patches and fix issues. Some companies don't even bother.
Yeah, what ChrTh said on the second issue about some games.

Here is another little bug, when I build the Sistine Chapel, it does not show up in my cities' aerial view.

So I suppose you would rather be sitting around griping and complaining that they haven't gotten Civ3 (never mind the Expansion packs!) into the stores yet - they have to make it *perfect* before release.

The gpt and FP bugs slipped in after the public Beta test, when there weren't as many eyes looking at the product. It's unfortunate, but it does happen, especially with tight delivery schedules.

As for this being a "sloppy" patch, maybe you don't understand the term *beta*. This is not, nor was it ever promised to be, a *final* patch. They expect some things to still be broken in it. It is a kind of 'Christmas Present': "Hey, we think we have these things fixed, why don;t you check it out?"

I can't believe what i am reading here. People talking about products they buy working not as it should, and then suck it up just like that. It's that attitude which makes game companies slack off in producing good software, if the buyers don't even care if they buy crap.

It isnt a bug as such. It was to save *a lot* of extra work coping with all the permutations.

Do we really *need* the aerial view anyway?

Is there a thread to record bugs with this patch ?

Btw ... thanks for creating this and giving us a shot at testing it out.

Remember folks its "beta", meaning its expected to have some issues.

Thank you Jesse for making it available.

That's good to hear about the FP. I would rather have it still act as a second palace though.

Firaxis did not have to release this patch now. This was done as a FAVOR to the Civ community. They explicitly stated that this patch was a BETA patch, hence would not be final.

To play (and complain) about this patch as if it was final is not only juvenile, it is demeaning to the Civ community and the developers who struggle to make this game for the public. If you are not happy about using and testing this BETA patch, then wait for the final.

In this thread (and other's like it), I can only apologize to the people at Atari, and remind them that just because someone is complaining, there are 5 people behind them who are not, and 10 more behind them who thank you and your team for the hard work and effort you've put forth for us.

Thank you again.

Vanadorn

I also welcome the FP not being a second Palace.
It gives large civs too much power.

I agree 100%. Thank you firaxis for allowing us to use and test the Beta Patch. Never in my past gaming experiences have I had a chance to interact with the developers of a game in the way your company has. It truly makes me want to continue supporting your current and future product line.

I couldn't have said it better, myself. So I won't even try.

If it is true that what the FP now does is simply increase the effect of your *original* palace, does that mean it no longer matters where you build your FP?

OK, I think the developers have to state how this is supposed to work, and then we can figure out if it works properly.

Let's not guess. Please publish the ALGORITHM, and then we can see if there is a bug or not, in either the algorithm itself or the implementation.

And history has proven that the more complicated the algorithm is, the more difficult you could make it right.

So in short, give us a simple algorithm first, so we know how it is supposed to work (or not work).

No, but there is a forum for bug reports. Look at the top of the Conquests forum. You'll see the bug reports forum there.
