COTM 02: Pregame discussion

noooooooooo not monarch... ive never played that high b4 and i sucked so bad on regent ... lol... i shall try though

Well, for such a lousy starting position I am really glad it is not an emperor.
Monarch will work :)

will monarch on this map be roughly the same as regent on COTM 1(because of its bad starting location)

I thought the start position was pretty good (COTM01) and only 3 or 4 moves from being excellent (flood plains). So my guess is this game will be slightly harder - especially so if on a small island. But it should still be an easy win.

Which level did you play the last game on SniperDevil?

Re: C3C difficulty levels v. Civ3/PTW difficulty levels

Weren't they reconfigured w/ the addition of demi-god & Sid? Or, did that just affect Emperor & Diety.

Monarch, okay, GOTM32 was my first completed Monarch game and it wasn't too scary. I don't like the start location. Unless there's something worthwhile over the hills, settle the BG for the Whales. So a single worker move won't go amiss (I have no aspirations for a fast win, I just want to win first.)

Neil.

So, now we know:

Monarch level
standard size map
raging barbarians
seafaring civ
4 billion years old, temperate, normal wetness
"difficult start"...

What's with the difficult starts for the COTM games, Ainwood? You think we don't like nice settler factories in our capitals....? ;)

Gotta move the worker to the hills, but which hill?

Would he give us a seafaring civ on a 5 tile island that's mostly hills. What a challenge that would be. :)

I still say if you have to scout with the worker, move it NW. Assuming there is another hill NW of the W hill, you won't be able to see behind it if you move W.

We should be OK, in Civ only the Dutch get Swiss mercenaries :D .

I was thinking that too. I'd quite happily boycott the UU if we do turn out to be Dutch (if it weren't for the fact that a 1-4-1 Pikeman replacement is actually quite nice to have :D ).

Mind you, looking at the starting loc, Ag is probably wasted as a trait. I'm more inclined towards Byz. At least, I hope it's Byz.

My first gotm was last month (cotm1), I wanted to start playing them so I could force myself to get used to any start. Normally I'm a bit woosy and if I don't like my start loc. I start again on a new map. I thought the first cotm was a pretty sadistic start. This, I think, is going to hurt a lot more.

The Nemesis.

So...monarch... then we can biuld a little fleet of curragh before we need a warrior for MP

Hmmm, Ainwood, sadistic, this could be a possibility

But believe it to me, behind the fog we find a great plain with horses, iron and three different lux  or a barb camp :shakehead

I just got a crazy idea to the starting civs. :crazyeye:

England, Portugal, Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Rome and Spain. The top dogs of the Euro 2004 will duke it out in COTM2 :D And England is our civ, starting next to fat Portugal who's seemingly unbeatabable :D Or is it? :dubious:

We will rule the waves, eventually :)

edit:
For the football interested you will notice that only Portugal and Holland remains of the favourites. You could probably mix in Scandinavia(sadly not due to Norways 'strong' team), Greece and France as well.

Now I know that the admins isn't diehard football fans, but it would be a nice touch anyway to select the compeeting civs based on the Euro2004 roster:)

If it's monarch, it's bound to be a hard start. Won't this make the 4th GOTM in a row that's monarch. IIRC the last 2 Classics and first 2 COTM's were monarch.
