Crusader Kings 2

Regarding the 75% off sale, I got the base game. Should I get the non-cosmetic DLC now? Or just enjoy learning the game first?

It's important to know whether you'll enjoy the game, of course, so given a test run first. While most of the non-cosmetic DLCs technically only add in new playable factions or start dates, so they aren't essential per se - most of the actual stuff has been provided in the patches over time , so the non-cosmetic DLCs just unlock stuff; however, without them, you will only be able to basically play Christians, and all the other factions have different play styles and mechanics.

If you re interested r in cosmetic DLCS, the face packs are the most important, in my opinion, since you'll be starting at people and characters the whole game.

Ahh... tormented, scheming, and ambitious daughters are The Blue Shells of History.

Spoiler :
And I picked up the face packs on the 75% discount based on the recommendations above. The price was finally right.

Hi!

I'm now out from home for a week (xmas vacation :)). I took a CK2 save file with me, saved to an USB stick. However, now it says that the file is unsupported when I open it with my laptop which is not the pc where the file was saved... Do you guys know how to fix this?

Thanks

Do you have the same version of CK2 on both computers, including patches and expansions?

Yes sir, the normal game and the Old Gods DLC.

EDIT: Wait, I don't know if I had the Old Gods DLC when this game was saved.. Maybe I'll try to open the game without the expansion and let's see what happens.

Thanks.

I have heard of the cloud thing but I didn't know how to use that or activate the cloud... I also can't go back in time so could I save the file now to the cloud and open it with the same computer? Should it work then? That sounds weird but maybe I could try it when I learn how to save to cloud...

Yeah, I found that option, but you can save the game only when you are playing that save. I cannot open the save so I can't play it nor save it to the cloud... Oh well, I just lost 5 CK-years so it is not that big loss... Thanks for the help anyways...

I've been interested n this game for a while now and it's currently on sale. However, one thing I find exremely off putting is the DLC. Steam lists 52 items with a combined cost of over 80 euro even though most of them are also 75% off. Most of them seem to be cosmetic, but WTH ?

If I buy this game, what DLC would you guys recommend ?

Charlemagne and Way of Life are out of the question for now (since they're not on sale).
How meaningful are the additions in the other ones ?

Those are the "main" DLC. The rest are cosmetic stuff which are absolutely missable.

I have a lot of the cosmetic stuff because it's 50 cents on sales and I don't really care about a couple quarters. The faces are nice to have because some of them are used by mods, ruler designer is pretty neat but gets me minmaxing, the unit retextures and dynasty shields are alright but probably not actually worth 50 cents each, and the music is good but I can't really tell the difference between it and vanilla music. Plus I usually mute the game's music and play Ensiferum or something.

I ended up buying Sword of Islam, Legacy of Rome, The Old Gods, and Sons of Abraham. After the tutorial I'm about to start my first game and since there's no other games that allow you to play as a Serb (except GTA 4) I picked Chief Mutimir of Rashka in 867.
I have only one vassal and he doesn't like me, I'm the only slavic pagan in a region full of Christians and I only have a very vague idea of what I am doing.
My goal: to usurp the throne of Constantinople

Edit: And I just noticed I am not married and my heir is my 17 year old son who hates me.

I don't normally try to tell people how to run their games, but if your vassal doesn't have a very big family then you can murder him and his children until you inherit his lands. This won't work if he has a relative with land or if he doesn't own a castle. You also might be able to just take him in a straight-up fight. Act now before it bites you in the ass later.

The major DLC, which are Charlemagne, Way of Life, Rajas of India, Legacy of Rome, The Old Gods, Sword of Islam, Sons of Abraham.

Charlemagne and Way of Life are out of the question for now (since they're not on sale).

just in case anything else has the some questions:

Sword of Islam - lets you play Muslims
Legacy of Rome - gives you some added functionality playing byz
Old Gods - pushes start date earlier, lets you play norse
Sons of Abraham - adds college of cardinals and other religious functionality
Rajas of India - lets you play indian characters
Charlemagne - pushes start date even earlier, lets you play as chuck and ragnarr
Way of Life - adds the personal goal thingies
