Crusader Kings 2

Rallis-Raoul isn't too difficult a play, given that he has the protection of the Byzantine Empire. As long as you behave and eventually assimilate, it'd end up like a normal Byzantine game... at least in vanilla CKII.

I'm planning on staying independent and Norman.

Hmm... reminds me about how one time while running a handsoff test game with my mod the Rallis-Raoul dynasty went native after a few decades and even put a few Emperors on the throne after a century or two. Granted in my mod it's a bit easier to get yourself on the Byzantine throne, but still, I thought it was funny. How does the Rallis-Raoul dynasty tend to do in vanilla CKII, anyways? I take it that they usually end up going native eventually anyways.

That looks fun. I might try Rallis-Raoul later.

Raimbaud is a wild and wooly start. I tried 5 times, and all 5 times the Seljuks opened the game up by declaring Holy War for Edessa.

So either you get lucky and they don't do that in your game, or you have to get land somewhere else very, very fast.

Fifth time I tried it I happened to draw a very good set of starting stats, including Elusive Shadow, and managed to assassinate my way to inheriting from Vahram in February 1073 - while the Seljuks were just wrapping up sacking Aintab.

Immediately surrendered to the Seljuks (no point dragging that war out). Now I've got 10 years peace before the Seljuks come back and kill me. I figure if I want it, I could now conquer the world eventually - just sail away to Hispania.

Or I could vassalize to ERE and convert to Orthodoxy. Forge a claim somewhere on the west border of ERE, press it to secure an escape route in case Seljuks come back. Try to get a marriage between my heir (when I get one) and someone with an inheritable claim to ERE, and two generations from now I'd be set to become Emperor.

The serious challenge would be to stay Catholic Norman, stay east of Sicily, and still try to make this work; I'm not sure I see any easy solutions for that puzzle.

It's the Norman challenge, not the Norman Catholic challenge.

My Norman challange as the de Afranji.

Still Norman. Still Catholic.

Anyone experience with novgorod? The guy starts without any claims, and attacking the pagans is almost no option cause they stick together, outnumbering you. I assume killing your brother so you get a bigger part of the inheritance is the first thing to do, along with elective succsion. (and handing out your counties since you're demesne size is twice as big as allowed)

Go seniority and take all the Rurikovich lands!

Novgorod was historically a republic, so you might want to think about downloading a mod to fix that. No idea if it'll make it easier or more interesting (or the other way around), though.

yah in know. not in 1066 it was though. But funny thing about republics. go to 1166, and you'll see a republic of genoa, and 2 kings of genoa. leftover programming i think.

Thanks to a bit of rebellion in rostov, and a bit of sibling killing, ill have enough lands to form rus once my father dies. But its gonna get complicated after that with succesion stuff. im running elective but kiev has primo.
