CTIV-1: The Turtle Game

Ok, guess I was thinking too strict on the rules. Still though, getting anyone willing to give up techs is difficult at best.

Agreed...but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try :groucho:

Preturn - All looks well, Satellites in 4.

(1) 1996 - Hatty comes looking for a trade. I try without the gold, but she won't bite. Kol Uni -> Supermarket.
civ4screenshot00651qy.jpg

(2) 1997 - Eiffel Tower is built in a far away land.

(3) 1998 - Aztecs get an engineer.

(4) 1999 - Satellites comes in and I really have no idea between Plastics and Mass media. I choose MM. I also start Calcutta on SDI.

(5) 2000 - 30 turns left. I suppose that means this is my last turnset for this game....hadn't realized.

(6) 2001 - Elizabeth builds a casing, so it looks like she is in the spaceship game too.

(7) 2002 - Washington comes offering Incense for Pigs. I of course decline.

(8) 2003 - Washington comes back again, looking for us to convert. It seems a bad idea. Then Izzy for open borders. No. Our empire has 20 million citizens, and Mass Media comes in. Plastics is the last in the row.

(9) 2004 - Washington has this stack down by Alexandria. We should be careful, because you can see his stance on us in the picture too. I think he's going to attack.
civ4screenshot00664ra.jpg

(10) 2005 - Hatty offers a defensive pact. No I say, because multi turn deals don't work. Also, Washington's stack seems to have left, but watch him closely.

Final thoughts/comments: I think we have to go for score here. I don't think at this point (25 turns) even if we could get the techs, we have the industrial capability to build the ship in time. Watch Washington carefully.

Washington's stack has been there forever. While I am concerned he'll attack with it, I'm not sure he's anymore likely to do it just because they're hanging out there (I keep waiting for Hattie to cancel Open Borders with George ... hrm, maybe if I ask her if she comes calling again?)

I got it, I think I'll play now.

Turn 0 -- 2005 AD

My last turnset ... barring a lot of skips. Here's to Gandhi: he lived the life of Riley while Riley was away.

Ok, Plastics due in 5. The first thing I'm going to research is Genetics for the health bonus (xenu knows we need it!).

ChrTh launches CTIV-1: The Turtle Game

Turn 1 -- 2006 AD

Mansa Musa adopts Org Rel.

Turn 2 -- 2007 AD

Hattie offers a Hit Musical for a Pig ... I am forced to decline.

Calcutta: SDI > Wealth

Turn 3 -- 2008 AD

:coffee:

Turn 4 -- 2009 AD

Isabella wants to swipe Sugar for Wine ... sorry

Turn 5 -- 2010 AD

Isabella demands Wine. Hrm, don't want to risk this, so I cave.

Plastics is in, start Genetics. Due in 8.

I think about starting some hydro plants, but I don't think it's necessary at this point; I'd rather get the wealth.

Turn 6 -- 2011 AD

:coffee:

Turn 7 -- 2012 AD

Washington has completed Docking Bay (he has Robotics). He needs 4 more techs to be able to build all the techs ... 18 turns? I don't see it as being likely.

Turn 8 -- 2013 AD

Hattie wants open borders, but I decline. Still Friendly.

Turn 9 -- 2014 AD

:coffee:

Turn 10 -- 2015 AD

Jaipur loves the Prime Minister!

Ok, 3 turns to Genetics, 15 turns to a possible Score victory. Washington has Composites now, he needs 2 more techs to finish the spaceship. However, he also needs to build 2 thrusters and 4 other parts. He's also been catching up in score. Hrmmm ... this might be close

Did I break a rule by giving the wine to Isabella? Good lord, what did we decide about that?

Guys, I'm going to play again. Reviewing the posts, I never should've gave in for Wine. Look for the updated save shortly.

I let Delhi grow again since it won't be unhappy at 18. I try to get some growth out of a couple other cities as well.

Turn 1 -- 2006 AD

MM adopts Org Rel.

Turn 2 -- 2007 AD

Hattie still wants to trade Hit Musical for Pigs. Still decline.

Calcutta: SDI > Red Cross (extra points for Wonders)

Turn 3 -- 2008 AD

:coffee:

Turn 4 -- 2009 AD

:coffee: Hrm, history is changing already

Turn 5 -- 2010 AD

Plastics comes in, start Genetics

Turn 6 -- 2011 AD

Elizabeth finishes Casing. I didn't note this last time, but I don't recall if she was in the space race before.

Turn 7 -- 2012 AD

Washington completes Docking Bay

Turn 8 -- 2013 AD

Calcutta: Red Cross > Wealth

Turn 9 -- 2014 AD

:coffee:

Turn 10 -- 2015 AD

:coffee:

Ok, no rules violations that time! I did change a couple things from before, like building Red Cross and changing population, but since I was fully intending to have the next player do that, I don't feel like I cheated or anything. If someone disagrees, I'll do the turns yet again ...

Wait there just a minute!

<Dreylin pauses while drink-addled brain catches up ... it's Wednesday!?!?>

Does this mean that I'm going to be playing the last couple of turns ... with my reputation!?!?!? ;)

<Ahem> :mischief:

Sooooo, I agree that the first set was invalid, and fully support mk2! :D

Um, yeah ... stuff.

<Let's drink-addled brain depart....>

Huh, Wha, Urg!?

Oh ... yeah ... Turtle. :twitch:

Sorry, missed your post yesterday (prolly wouldn't have been able to play anyway). I'm going to be out most of today, but can play this evening if it's still on the cards.

2016AD

Washington builds Thrusters: He's now up 2Thrusters and Docking Bay on us. I check our cities and realise that we're not building Thrusters even though we can!?

Configure production cities 2 though 4 to Thrusters (saving Calcutta for Stasis Chamber when Genetics completes)

Losing money now, but keep us at 80% to get Genetics in 2.

2017AD

Mansa Musa wants Open Borders -> Nope!
Izzy demands World Map -> don't see any harm, so I give it.

Hyderabad Laboratory->Courthouse

Great Artist born in AM ... can't get a Golden age, but notice that we've got loads of Great People stored up. We now have a spare Artist and a spare Scientist ... I'm going to use them to Speed Robotics next turn when Genetics completes.

2018AD

Genetics->Robotics

Artist accelerates research on Robotics ... but Scientist wants to help with Fiber Optics. Bah, put him back to sleep.

Calcutta starts on Stasis Chamber, and I knock Research back down to 70% so we're not haemoraging money.

2019AD

Hatty wants Open Borders; let me think about that for a mintue ... Nope!
Washington completes his last Thruster - he's 2 Spaceship techs up on us, but we're up a few techs that he'll need too.

2025AD

Mansa Musa asks us to convert to Confucianism - not happening.
Liz, Open Borders, Nah.

And that's it. 5Turns to go; 2turns on Robotics and we're still ahead of Washington around 150pts of score.

I think we had stopped on the space ship parts because there was no way to finish the whole thing in time. Using that production to fund research could net us a few extra points if we get a tech we other wise wouldn't have. Anyway, starting them isn't horrible either.;)

Since we've had some player order breakdown, and because it's my game ... I'll take the last 5 turns :groucho: ... hopefully there will be victory screens tonight.

If we finish the spaceship parts, it might get us more points; not sure if projects count towards the point total or not.

Hadn't thought about that, parts counting for points as well. I was thinking in terms of them being buildings.

I think as long as a launch or UN vote doesn't sneak up, we should win the time victory. Cross your fingers.

Turn 0 -- 2025 AD

5 turns to go ... will we win?!?!

I use the Great Artist to save us a turn on Robotics. I join the Great Prophet to Jaipur to help the SS Thrusters a little.

I use the Great Scientists for Fiber Optics. I'm hoping that after their contribution we'll be able to finish it in 5.

Calcutta won't finish the Stasis Chamber in 5, so I switch to wealth.

CTIV-1: 4092, GW: 3953

Turn 1 -- 2026 AD

Robotics comes in, Fiber Optics due in 4 ... here's hoping.

CTIV-1: 4145, GW: 3953

Turn 2 -- 2027 AD

Lahore: SS Thrusters > Research
Karachi: SS Thrusters > Research

I convert some more cities from Wealth to Research ... FO now due in 2.

CTIV-1: 4145, GW: 3956. Spaceship Parts do NOT increase score.

Turn 3 -- 2028 AD

Hattie wants to trade Wine for Hit Musicals. Since she only "Cats" to offer, I turn her down.

Hyderabad: Courthouse > Wealth. Celebrates We Love the Prime Minister Day.

CTIV-1: 4145, GW: 4003.

Turn 4 -- 2029 AD

Isabella wants to trade clams for pigs. I sadly decline.

Fiber Optics comes in. Start Ecology.

A Great Scientist is born in Delhi. I join him to Delhi as a Super Scientist.

I increase Culture to 80% :) I turn off avoid growth in Ankh-Morpork. I save the game for everybody:
