CTIV-6: Germs! Germs Everywhere!

Not a problem for me...i went to sleep after my post last night.

I agree w/Mucco that I don't think Toku will be a problem, but i'm of the opinion that we take HIM out first! I know that I'm (edit 'k')new, but he's not that far ahead of us power-wise and has some pretty powerful enemies, i.e., US & Russia (axis v allies?)...it could really work to our advantage.

Plus, we're going to lose a lot of turns bldg the prod. bldgs in all the cities we want them in after Recylcing Center comes in ~ I think we're gonna need all the help we can get to win the space race to be honest, and toku's cities would make for a good addition. by all means, perhaps take out the Mongols first, but I raelly think that Japan needs to go.

Let's not be too eager with the :hammer: ... a lot of warfare will set us back tech- and build-wise, and FDR and Cathy are both well suited to beat us to Space.

not if they're involved too . . . plus, rome could prob put out units quickly as the highest prod city, and it didn't look like it needed any other improvments as far as what's allowed to be built...

in the end, i don't think war w/Toku would be feasible until 2 turnsets after me (and i'm up now), so we'll have plenty of time to hash out before then.

Also keep in mind that toku has the hindu shrine. It'll be a good source of money, since it's a big religion. Toku is more threatening and more appealing than kublai, too.

:king: (short msg)

While I agree that Toku's lands would be a nice addition, its a dangerous choice. Toku is surely sitting on a ton of units, and while we have pseudo tech parity, check out GNP. We're not going to be beating anyone to infantry or tanks, and I would guess 20 turns from now (a conservative estimate) when we're ready to war again, Toku is going to have them.

Liz might declare on Toku, but surely not at our urging. She hates us almost as much as him. Cathy is somewhere in between, but cautious civs in general aren't keen on doing you any favors. We made the early mistake of picking Toku and Alex as allies, and we can't undo all the times we told Lizzie to go fly a kite. I think we need to make a strong rush towards productivity, and if Liz and/or Cathy decide to declare, keep and eye open towards feasting on the carnage. Ultimately, I'll be surprised if we win this without invading England, but certainly getting our hands on the Hindu shrine would make a huge difference. I wouldn't declare without allies, and keep in mind as his nearest neighbor, if they just drop 2 galleons worth of troops and go back to peaceful building, we're the ones who will be repelling Japanese infantry.

I think at this point, we pretty much have to try and get our lands up to full productivity (don't forget the greek cities have to build all the health junk before they can actually do anything to help our GNP and/or pump out any promoted troops.) And do what we can to ensure we can tech towards space. And um, pray we have Aluminum.

In fairness, I was opposed to both the Mongol and Greek wars which turned out to be smashing successes, so maybe I should be ignored.

check out GNP
Hmmm, to be honest the graph shows us at 2nd place, behing only cathy (liz? can't remember), who's in a GA. The table ranks us 4th, but I guess we are teching pretty much as fast as toku. A bit slower, maybe, but once the greek cities are developed there won't be any problem IMHO. There is the real risk, however, to remain without allies. But japan's lands could provide us all the military and science that we need. Allies? Try kublai. Or he was toku's friend? Don't remember. If he isn't he could bring to the front something more than two galleons.
An idea could be to wait for aluminium, then attack whoever has it. But we'll probably be in the SS race already, so there will be little time for war.
I've always had a good success beelining for robotics, then rushbuying the space elevator. This could make aluminium secondary, but in this game there are other tech priorities (recycling centers for production).
And, BTW, health is not junk .

well, I will be playing the save tonight and will post in about 6 or 7 hours. I'm going to hold off on the GA, then, until after Greek cities realize how much they love Roman rule instead (how historical!). Also, i'm 99.9% sure that you can 'choose' which GP to use for the GA by putting the ones you want into the same city before triggering.

Also, Rome is building a grenadier (?) or some unit, so i'm guessing that it's done building the health non-junk already. If so, i'm gonna keep having it pump out units for now, just for my turn-set anyway.

Units can always be built, even if the city doesn't have all of the health buildings. The problem is that the city can't build a barracks until all of the health buildings are complete.

Antium and Rome are our two best troop producers at this point (Antium has the Heroic Epic).

I'll repost the Variant Rules as reminder :D

Variant Rules:
When we get Medicine, we most adopt Environmentalism and stay with it.

We can not build any unhealthy buildings (Airport, Forge, Factory, Drydock, Ironworks, Laboratory) until we've built a Recycling Center in town.

We can not build any other city improvements until we've built all available healthy buildings (Granary, Aqueduct, Supermarket, Grocer, Harbor, Hospital). We can still build units before we build any of these, though.

Hanging Gardens is a priority and must be built by us.

Flood Plains can only have farms built on them. No workshops anywhere.

We can not chop forests UNLESS it's on a resource. Jungles can still be chopped.

Units Can Only Be Promoted to Combat I-V, Medic I and II, and March. No other promotions allowed.

We must trade for healthy resources before trading for happy/strategic ones (i.e. if Hattie has both Gold and Pigs for trade, we must trade for the Pigs before we can trade for the Gold).

No real rules in terms of how we deal with other Civs. We can still declare war, make peace, trades, etc. however we want. In terms of tech, we're not required to beeline to any specific, however, we should be placing an emphasis on the healthy ones and should probably head towards Math pretty quickly in order to ensure we get Hanging Gardens.

gotcha...

T1~Why don't we have Forges?!? I order up a round of them all over the empire ~

edit: now playing w/broken legs

When I said junk, I clearly meant, stuff. ;)

Rome not a problem cause it already has all that. I was referring to the former Greek cities.

played last night, but finished up well after midnight...went to sleep, came to work, will post tonight...exec summary: All in all, a building turn...a good one explore the game a bit and get to know our empire...i OB'ed w/mongolia to get access to sparta since its pretty much surrounded by culture. I moved the GE into there, in anticipation of the Hermitage, but we may have to go after the Mongols sooner or later...also, w/the OB i scouted out his lands...he seems oh so ripe, but his lands aren't as nice as toku's. Do we have OB w/Toku?? If so, we need to send a cav in there ASAP to check out his stockpiles of units. Perhaps even keep a unit in his major cities for now, as spies. I :smoke: a bit on the GA ~ we're 2 turns into i believe, but I forgot to start it after Sparta came online, and did it 2 turns or so later.

I don't think i broke any rules. any city that had a building that gave a health bonus, i built. if not, i went towards sci blds for now figuring we're trying to play catch-up and every little bit counts. I didnt' promote any of the units I built, but I upgraded a couple-three.

Japan:

Bio in 2; West Pt in 15...not much else. Next set should probably be more building, but it seems like we should move on one civ or the other w/in the next couple turnsets...genghis would be easier, but toku's lands look more productive ~

save:

Got it. Any suggestions, before I start playing? I'll concentrate on military, if possible.

I'm skeptical that military action against either Toku or Kublai is going to do much for us, but I've made my feelings well known already. If I were to go to war with anyone it might just be Liz.

@Gaspar: i don't know that our prod. is up to the task of a space race though...that's why japan would be ideal...they have those two huge swathes of hills...
