CTR1 -- Jump Without Looking (the Deity Virgin Sacrifice)

A couple things: Cav vs. Inf will result in a lot of casualties on our part. I'd feel better with Tanks vs. Inf.

Build those cities! Even lousy production is better than no production at all...plus it's less space for the British to possibly expand into. We might want another city b/t Salamanca and Niagara Falls (hill 3 squares SE of Salamanca).

I agree ChrTh - another city 3 tiles SE of Salamanca looks good. If we are waiting for tanks then I would advise concentrating on infrastructure for a little bit. Many of our cities are building cavalry, but if we will wait until tanks then the cavalry will have very little use and we may as well build banks and marketplaces and factories(when we get Industrialisation). We might also want to think about improving our defenses. Many of our border cities only have 1 unit in them. They need to be re-inforced so a few more muskets wouldn't go astray.

Some notes :

Our reputation is in ruins . No-one will accept per-turn gold deals from us anymore. Is this because we broke a trade with the English when we went to war with the Iroquois? Either way, this puts us in a bad position as far as trade is concerned.

We never broke the trade link ... for some reason England did that. Directly after we signed a +25gpt deal with persia, so it can't have been that that trashed our rep.

Now I understand :-( We were importing from ENG, so we've lost lux's !! We now have 6 of 8. We have lost our trade route with them!!

Trade IVORY to PERSIA for 25gpt (better than the 16 GP england gave us before, anyway, and we no longer have an agreement with england, if we decide war is necessary.)

We seem to have an awful lot of Galleons.

Oh yeah - that's wat enabled us to land so many troops so fast as the start of the war. In my experience, if you are landing troops, then yo want to land in bulk, and create that beachhead, rather than losing 1/2 your unit everytime you go back to fetch more.

I am worried about our reputation being ruined.

I agree. As I said above, we did get a gpt trade in my turn, after the "cancelled" trade with ENG. Not sure what could have caused that. Maybe we need to do some bridge&fence mending ?

I have 6 troops by Akwesasne. I gamble and attack. We take it, but we needed all 6 cavalry.

Well Done Shard !! I was being very optimistic, but you pulled it off !

Regards our way forwards ....

I agree on the tanks route. We do have the downside on the Diety strong prod bonus, so if we get to a stage soon where we feel we have a nice defence, we might consider trying to use our surplus cav in a "smash and grab" on either England or india ... but that is down the road. I DO think we need to focus on DEFENCE, the INFRA, as I mentioned before, trying to ensure we get ToE!

What I meant by GPT deals Wanderer was that other civs won't accept gpt from us. They'll happilly give it to us, because if we break the deal they get what they bought on the cheap. The problem at this stage of the game is that techs are too expensive for lump sum. We need to be able to buy them in per turn agreements or else we'll be saving up for ages. We need to think about making aggresive research attempts on techs the AI often ignore. But possibly this will not work if they are too far ahead and have discovered everything.

i see ....

hmmm, well, it's kinda dificult to try and figure how far ahead they are, since there are no wonders etc, we can work of off. As you say, we need to try and get midicine, so we can know if they already have sci method.

we have steam power , right ? so we know that they can't have electrcity, or we would see it. That means the can't have sci meth yet. If think we need to get/borrow/steal medicine, the go max sci for electricity and then Sci Meth, having already started a pre-build for ToE.

We can use our 2 free tech to get replace parts, since it is expensive, and eiether try for indust ourselves. It will be vital to TRY and time our ToE to finish on the turn we finish a TECH, so we get bst value from ToE ((but not as vital as making sure the enemy AI don't take ToE away from us)).

Wouldn't it be preferable to take Atomic Theory and Electronics with ToE so that we can build Hoovers?

Hmmm - there's a thought. I must admit , I usually default Replaceable part, for that nice upgrade to Infantry. Pretty much safe until some serious tanks arrive, and the tech tree to motorized trans requires 7 tech's.

Maybe we should go Atomic, Elect, as our freebies, then do replaceable as the next. that way, as you note, we can get to expensive techs ...

0 - 800 AD
I change lots of cavalry productions to infrastructure. Mainly marketplaces.
It looks like our reputation is toast. We can't buy a tech for our entire +247 gpt. :(
I turn back on research.

1 - 810 AD
Salamanca Temple --> Worker
Cattaraugus Temple --> Worker
Mauch Chunk Temple --> Courthouse (It has 2 spt production)
Miami Library --> Marketplace
Cincinnati Aquesduct --> Library
The people expand our palace
Our workers seem to be wasting lots of effort improving tiles around cities that are hopelessly corrupt. We should be building railroads and improving the tiles in our core.
Build railroads

IBT Our incense deal with Persia expires.
England and India sign a peace treaty. :(

2 - 820 AD
Chicago Library --> Marketplace
Seattle Barracks --> Marketplace
Build railroads

3 - 830 AD
New York Barracks --> Worker
Houston Barracks --> Worker
Buffalo Worker --> Worker
Dark Chocalate Temple --> Library
New Orleans Worker --> Worker
Build railroads

4 - 840 AD
Build railroads

5 - 850 AD
Philadelphia Worker --> Worker
Dark Green Marketplace --> University
Dark Blue Cathedral --> University
Houston riots. :smoke: Luckily, it is one of our many hopelessly corrupt cities.
Build railroads

My set of turns were extremely uneventful.

The SAVE

Ahh, silly me, had completely forgotten we could build railroads what with all the excitement with the war and all that. My bad.

Not much else to say really, as Earp said his turns were fairly uneventful. Good luck ChrTh!

Hey guys...since the players immediately following me are MIA, I'm going make this game second priority of the two I have due tonight...I still may play it tonight, but it's more likely I won't have it in until Thursday.

In the meantime, feel free to discuss :)

Our workers seem to be wasting lots of effort improving tiles around cities that are hopelessly corrupt. We should be building railroads and improving the tiles in our core.

I have a feeling that this was my bad ... if so, my apologies :-(

Are we on max Sci now , for a while ?
Anyone know of way's to fix our rep ?
Anyone know what broke it ? It's not like we broke trade from our side, committed ROP rape or declared war during a peace period etc. The only "bad thing" I can see was ENG losing it's trade rote to us - not our fault - and the gpt dealt lost there.

Unfortunately Wanderer it was the trade deal with England that broke it. It seems harsh but the AI are a very unforgiving bunch. Even if it wasn't our fault that a trade route was broken we will get landed with the blame and our reputation will be muddied accordingly.

so - has anyone found anything thread, or know of any way, the describes how to try and recover our rep ?

Forgive my rampant lurking, but I am really enjoying following along with your game and I have learned quite a bit!

I believe the source of your reputation hit stems from the ROP agreement that was signed with the Iroqouis at the beginning of the 560 AD turn. Since the attack began on the 740AD turn, the ROP agreement was still in effect, no?

Thanks for the opportunity to play your game vicariously :).

I think Juventus is right. We broke our RoP with the Iroquois when we declared war. ChrTh, are you going to be able to play soon?

AHA - Juventus! Well spotted !

I think the with the way the war is developing, we were better of getting the foothold on ENG's continent and taking the rep hit. What do you guys think ? While logistically, a war against india might be easier, I think ENG are the weakest of the 3.

Who's up when ChrTh finishes ?

I should be playing today...I'll need to check with Space and Mad-Bax are back to determine if we'll wait for them or not.

Turn 0 -- 850 AD
I check around...looks like it's going to be a builder's turn, which I'm well-suited for :)

Turn 1 -- 860 AD
I screwed up...Persia wanted to renew our Silks deal (which was 20gpt), I tried to renegotiate, but since they won't create new gpt deals, we lost it.
I trade Wines and Dyes to England for Spices...20 turns before we can attack them.

I don't think I've ever seen a rep so bad before! This could kill us in the end...

With the extra lux I'm able to fire some entertainers (but in most cases I have to switch to tax collectors)

Turn 2 -- 870 AD
We get a mess o' We Love The Shogun Days

Turn 3 -- 880 AD
Our furs runs out with Persia. I'm forced to give Silks and Incense to keep Furs (and they won't throw in any cash)

IT: Persia and India sign a Peace Treaty
India offers us 22gpt for dyes...I take it (continuation of previous deal)

Turn 4 -- 890 AD
:sleep:

IT: Persepolis completes Universal Suffrage

Turn 5 -- 900 AD
:sleep:

Medicine due next turn, neither England nor India have it yet (Persia does)... obviously trade it if you can.

Reputation still sucks, will probably suck for another 4 turns, after that it may be ok again
