CTR1 -- Jump Without Looking (the Deity Virgin Sacrifice)

I concur, red spot is highest priority, IMHO. After that I'm not sure, we need to get to the gems pretty soon if we want them, India is taking the lead at this moment. And we need settlers bad. So what do we do with Osaka guys? It seems only you (SHard) and me in discussion sofar, how do you others feel? Wanderer before you go, maybe comment? Mad, ChrTh: any thoughts on this? Earp? Infoman?
For this to be a success we need all hands on deck and much discussion, I think a bit more then we have seen up to now...

I agree space. All I know is that Earp had a work crisis and is in Mexico. I'm sure this will get going again in a bit.

Hi guys,

Sorry I haven't had much to say for a few days. I think we need to get the dyes and gems next two cities. I would even consider sending the next settler for the gems first even though he won't settle till after the following settler gets the dyes (if you see what I mean). Other than that I am a little worried we only have 5 cities at this point, and we are being pushed into being a jungle CIV. If thats the case we will need a shed load of workers soon.

I think we are going to need at least 1.5 workers per city. We also need a harbour and some galleys. and we need a site for the FP. Since we are not going to get a leader to build it, this will have to be done in a shield rich site probably no more than 10 tiles from the capital. Personally I can see a palace jump looming. All that jungle is bad news....

Fear not, I am still around and read the thread every day, I just haven't had time to contribute anything sensible.

I think you may be write about getting the gems first. I'm not sure what everyone thinks about war. Samauri are a strong offensive unit. I know where are not very powerful as such, but the Samauri may be able to clinch us a few cities off the Americans, say. We can build horseman and upgrade, but we needn't worry about that just yet (although chivalry may well be upon us before 0AD). I certainly think if we are to win, we will need to war at some point.

Preturn Shtuff

I definitely agree about getting the Luxuries, as well as the comment about heading for Gems first with the Settler, so that the Gems and Dyes will be settled at about the same time. More workers is a definite...I think Osaka needs to stay Settler tho...I know it's inefficient, but we need to get Dyes and Gems asap. No luxuries @Deity? :suicide:

I agree with the position of the Dyes city, but I think the Gems city should be 1 spot NE of SHard's Orange Dot; that way it will grab 2 at some point, and may allow us the luxury of cramming more cities on the inner coast.

I agree with the current Warrior builds. I'm going to maintain that and probably build a round of Workers next (still TBD)

Turn 0 -- 1525 BC
I do change Dark Green to Galley. My suspicions are that the other continent(s) are accessible and if we could reach 'em first...
Everything else looks ok...I hit SPACEBAR

Turn 1 -- 1500 BC
Our cultural influence expands! Kyoto goes to 4, will riot next turn. I raise luxuries to 20% (now losing -1) for one turn, and switch Warrior to Worker to ease population pressure (we don't have the cash to maintain a deficit).

Warrior dies to Barbarian...GRRRR

Turn 2 -- 1475 BC
Kyoto finishes Worker...I order up Settler...Lux back to 10%

Turn 3 -- 1450 BC
Paris completes the Pyramids
London completes Oracle
Spearman dies by Barbarian?!? :wallbash: Damn you RNG!

Turn 4 -- 1425 BC
Kyoto grows to 4...lux to 20%, but now we're even money at 20%

Turn 5 -- 1400 BC
Osaka: Settler > Granary
Yuck, that cost us some commerce. I hire a Taxman in Kyoto and drop the Luxuries back to 10% to keep us even.
Dark Blue: Warrior > Worker. This Warrior will guard the Osaka Settler

Turn 6 -- 1375 BC
IT: The Indians were nice enough to take care of the freakin' Barbarians for us

Turn 7 -- 1350 BC
:wallbash: The Indians beat us to the Gems...I'm going to head the Settler West to get the Gems outside the Indian perimeter...may cost us only one turn, we'll have to see

Turn 8 -- 1325 BC
Kyoto: Settler > Warrior I'm going to send this settler towards the Silks; I'm still trying to figure out how to escort him--I take a gamble and send the Spearman with him...the Warrior should be online almost immediately, and there are no foreign troops nearby. We should be able to build a coastal city right next to the Silks.

Turn 9 -- 1300 BC
:wallbash: Our Warrior/Settler pair on the way to Dyes got ambushed by Barbarians. They're both dead. :wallbash:
Ivories are now within our cultural boundaries...I'll start Working in that direction...

BTW: NO GOVERNORS IN SGS! :nono:

Turn 10 -- 1275 BC
Kyoto: Warrior > Settler
Tokyo is Built by the Gems! I order up a Temple to stave off culture flipping

Boy that Sucked. Big Time. I apologize, the RNG was NOT with me.

There's a stack of Americans approaching Sirp-Orange...I hope they're friendly
Settler/Spearman are heading towards Silk..I'm thinking spot NE of Silks on coast is the place to settle.
Kyoto settler should head for the Dyes. Bring at least two Warriors.

Sorry guys. On the plus side, the Galley will be ready next turn...time for some exploring! (Sell contacts in order to get Techs)

Here's the save:

One Mo' Thing: Watch the cities every turn. Get efficient at micro-managing, because Oy, I had to go nuts. It'll be easier if we can get some cash.

Mad-Bax, I believe you're up

This is just my "Got it" post. I will look at the game today, post a few thoughts and then play tomorrow.

Hard luck ChrTh. Hopefully things will even out over time.

It's my fault, I knew the Barbarians were trickier on Deity, I should've just eliminated them from the game parameters...

I don't know if there has ever been more usage of the :wallbash: than in my last turn...

ChrTh don't blame the poor luck on yourself. You sent the settler with an escort and the barbs were lucky. The barb killing the spearman was very bad luck. There really wasn't anything else you could do. We can't send settler's off with whole armies just in case of a barb attack.

Losing out on the gems was always looking likely. We probably didn't give it high enough priority, but this team as new to deity and we weren't to know. At least we're learning this way :).

Keep smiling, we were never meant to cruise this one :)

Actually, we got the Gems...Tokyo has one in range (and let me tell you, the commerce is a god-send). If we can maintain the Ivory in our border, we could have 4 luxuries online

Hey good job, ChrTh! :goodjob: We know that this thing gets progressively harder, you just are the first to hit the s*t.
Regarding the gov'ners: I haven't turned them on, but I didn't check them either. I'm not the only one playing Civ on this machine, could be some settings carry over from one game to the next.. I'll definitely check them next time. :)

I recommend everyone downloads the save at this point. Not because I've just played ;) but because 100BC is a good place to take a reality check. I'll post some shots tomorrow at work.

Quick reply before I'm off to bed:

Look like good turns to me. Downloaded the save, here is my first reaction:

Some good, some not so good.
Good - Tech parity!!!
Good - War starting between the civs on our continent
Good - We got our share of lux and resources
Not so good - Our core is lopsided
Not so good - Too few cities
Not so good - Dark chocolate will not grab the Iron
Not so good - Culture pressure on Dark Humour (:)) and Tokyo

We should let Kyoto grow a bit larger. I find it very difficult to do this because we need settlers bad, but I think we need to. See the GOTM thread. The good thing is that both the Ams and the Indians will be distracted by the war, I don't know if this'll mean fewer settler pairs from them though...

Some thoughts:

Galley should be sent North...there may be an island/continent up there..and it looks like there's a single culture by itself there

We're way behind, period...except in Science (phew)...so if we can get ourselves not destroyed we may have a chance :goodjob:

Next city spot should be 1 spot E of Iron...Americans have a settler east of our position...hopefully we can culture flip whatever city they build at some point.

Kyoto should build a Temple next...if Atlanta expands, we'll lose the Ivory.

Military needs expansion...Americans are probably a legitimate threat to attack us at some point.

I agree that there must be a landmass north of the galley. There is a small chance we might find it with a suicide mission. I vote we go for it. If the civ is on its own it will probably be cash rich and backward. We may be able to bankrupt it. Then we can invade it and jump the capital there with a leader. The AI is rubbish at conducting war overseas so we could be safer over there. With that in mind we can move our current core by building the FP in the middle of the cities we have right now and give our position more balance.

Dark humour was aimed at getting one of the silks - yes- but also at dividing the continent north to south. If we establish an embassy with the Americans and sign an ROP they should be nice to us for a while.

I have no problem allowing Kyoto to grow. I would agree to building a temple there to expand the border quicker for the ivory.
However I would only do this when we are in a position to build a settler in another city to compensate. There is still a lot of land to the East which is unclaimed. The indians are at war which gives us breathing space to get over there.

In retrospect the placement of Dark Chocolate was poor - Sorry. I was completely blind to the iron, and forgot how important it is to us.

Who's up?

SHard is UP, and Wanderer is on deck

Don't worry about Dark Chocolate: in none of the Dot Maps was it supposed to be able to grab the Iron. Next city, IMO, should be one tile E of the Iron though.

Other cities have Granaries, we should find another Settler builder.
