CTR1 -- Jump Without Looking (the Deity Virgin Sacrifice)

I know I'm always a bit shy, erring on the side of caution in terms of when to declare war. Having said that, if everyone agrees on the principle, surely the earlier we build the settler's, the better ? That way, by the time war comes, the cities have potentially recovered and are more productive in the war effort...

Ok, I played and managed to supress my builder instincts, here's the turn log.

Pre-turn:

I MM a bit, especially the cities that can't grow anymore until they get aquaducts and turn off all gouverners. I'll supress my builder instinct and continue crancking samurai. All the AI seem to be three techs ahead, but my feeling is that it is actually worse, we just can't see. Only the Iroqs are trailing. The French have only education over us. Press enter.

IT - England demands TM and 45g, I cave, gritting my teeth. We'll meet again Lizzy...

130BC - turn 1:
MM some more
I can make a deal for edu cheap from Joan, but she's still at war with the Am's so I'll hold off for the moment.

IT - nada

110BC - turn 2:
Dark Humour worker -> catapult (defense for our frontline to be, samurai would take 35 turns :eek: )
Osaka riots :smoke:
Can trade England Dyes for Wines+WM+39g or Persia Dyes for Furs+WM+4gpt. Decide to go for the latter since England is cautious and will not make demands for 20 turns to come. Persia is annoyed and the deal is better. It turns him polite.
I fire Osaka's scientist.

IT - nada (Abe is moving annoying settler pair back and forth)

90BC - turn 3:
Osaka samurai -> worker
MM some more
Trade WMs

IT - nada

70BC - turn 4:
Kyoto samurai -> samurai (no, Space, no market remember :))
Sirp-Orange samurai -> samurai
Trade WMs, Iros have Theology now

IT - nada

50BC - turn 5:
Edo samurai -> samurai
Osaka worker -> settler

IT - Persia and France have peace, looks like Joan ceded Dallas

30BC - turn 6:
Engineering is in, start Invention still at 0%, I fire the scientist.
It is like I thought, Abe has invention too.
Trade Engineering with France for Education and 157g straight.
England and Persia have Astronomy and Banking, Abe, Ghandi and Joan lack these.

IT - London completes Sistine Chapel.

10BC - turn 7:
Satsuma samurai -> samurai
The Americans kno Astronomy and Banking too, India still lacks them. France is down to 1 city. 4 turns to go on the deal with America.

IT - Joan is destroyed :(

10AD - turn 8:
MM some more

IT - Iros demand education, I give in (we need some balance for England on that continent, I was actually thinking about gifting it anyway).

30AD - turn 9:
I move a samurai on our iron source, it should be next to undefeatable on the mountain.
There's a nice settler pair to attack in our jungle.
India has Astronomy too now.

IT - nada

50AD - turn 10:
Kyoto samurai -> samurai
Dark Blue samurai -> samurai
Osaka settler -> samurai
I move a samurai to Dark Humour to attack settler pair (later! still 1 turn to go...)

the save

Mad-bax I know the samurai are in good hands with you, go give 'm :hammer:

edit: Guys, I didn't see your posts yet (too busy playing :) )
@Earp: France is gone already, the deal is over next turn.
@Wanderer: Osaka is a real good factory, it built a sam, a worker and a settler within these turns. It is again busy on a sam now.

Ok, mad-bax, you're up

Space, those are some good turns.

It's a pity about Joan :cry: ...

REMEMBER, WE HAVE 1-2 MORE TURNS ON OUR DEAL WITH AMERICA. After that...I say it's :hammer: time (take the next couple turns to move into position).

Goals for American conquest:
Try to take out all the little encroaching cities and one or two of their major ones (Seattle or San Fran). When we make peace, we want to get Tech, not extra cities I would think (of course, if we can get both).

I think it is a good idea to have an ally when we go to war against America. Is there anyway to bride Ghandi to join us in our war against the vicious Americans? Do we have anything he needs?

One negative about war b/t India and America: India could possibly grab those cities in our North/Northeast that we want to grab. I would suggest we capture those first, THEN get India involved when we attack the Western border cities.

What's our current government type? Republic?

Yup.
Wouldn't India go for the ex-French cities? Those in the NE are pretty crappy.
BTW One of them is size 2 now, so it won't be autorazed.

As Republic, we have got to watch happiness when we go to war on Deity. Expect Lux at like 70% before we make peace.

I'm pretty sure the core of India is closer to those cities than the ex-French cities. It depends on where India's troops currently are --- and possibly any lingering settlers.

Good luck mad-bax. Particularly as it seems you will have to do the fighting for us.

Do we have enough Samauris to actually give them a good fight?

Don't forget as the Japanese you are Religious and if WW gets too bad you can always switch to Monarchy or Communism and then switch back when you sign a Peace Treaty.

You guys are doing great, keep it up and stick it to the Damn Yankees

Guys:

I have been in Germany without Internet access this week. I have downloaded the save and will play tomorrow night. I could play tonight but I want to try to absorb what has been said over the past week. Hope that's OK.

It's quite unusual for me to be offline for that long.

Are we playing 10 turns or have we reduced it to 5 yet?

I'm pulling rank :D Ten turns for the rest of this rotation. Once it gets back to me, we'll go down to 5; otherwise it imbalances the number of turns for each player.

Good job guys! Keep up the good work, who woulda thunk you'd be aiming to cripple a Superpower.

Just a thought, before you guys get into WAR you want to decide what(exactly) your ideal goal is (What citys & how long it will last/what you want outa the peace treaty).

The problem with bringing India is(on top of Gandi being peaceful & will demand both arms & a leg to join the war) is then you'll have to drag out the war for 20 turns before sueing for peace, otherwise you'll take a rep hit. Which you could probably do with haveing your troops in place & razing/resettleing citys, nothing makes an AI talk about peace quicker then watching their citys burn to the ground;)

Get em!!
:ar15: :die: :mwaha:

I don't want to make a big deal out of this, but we need to make a decision about how far this war is going to go. Abe will give us peace and a couple of cities or a couple of techs. My view is that this is not enough. I think we need to take the capital and the incense city minimum b4 even thinking about peace. To be honest I think that we could flip to monarchy in around ten turns and just carry on untill Abe is master of 1 former french city.

I made a couple of bad mistakes in my turns (again). I had a turn civil disorder in one city, and I allowed our horses to be pillaged. We don't need horses for Samurai fortunately, so it wasn't a game killer.

BTW I allowed Abe to declare war on us to benefit from some reverse war weariness, and I waited till cities were size 2 b4 taking them as razing cities kills our rep. I didn't know where to put the FP - But I did ask in an earlier post, so don't kick me if you think its a bad place. I am still thinking Palace jump.

Timeline:
50AD: Started troop relocation. Persia completes Sun Tzus. Disease in Dark Humour.

70AD: Incense trade ends. India build Copernicus. I demand America leave our territory. They declare war (of course).

90AD: Capture St Louis, Atlanta and 5 workers. GA Begins.

110AD: Capture Detroit and Denver.

130AD: Persia Build Leos. Capture San Francisco with quite heavy losses.

150AD: Capture Cincinatti. Our horses are pillaged. Sorry. Don't need them for Samurai fortunately.

170AD: Fighting defensive battle for San Fran Generates leader Tojo.

190AD: Capture Baltimore.

210AD: Healing and regrouping, but still fending off waves of Knights. Build FP in Dark Chocolate.

230AD: 1 turn civil disorder in Osaka. Sorry.

250AD: Capture Seattle.

Here is the
save.

Here is our world.

I think I acheived all the goals set by our leader :)

Next player up: BE CAREFUL! The way I fight is to use all the units I have available to me. Therefore there are some undefended cities. I leave enough cash to rush a Pike if I have to. Fortunately the knights are beginning to dry up so you may only be up against swords and archers from now on. Have fun - I did!

That's a great turn mad-bax. Brilliant gains in the war so far and from what you say we look strong enough to push on. However I certainly agree that we need to decide how far we want this war to go. Your two 'mistakes' don't seem to be a huge problem. Losing horses means nothing to us at the moment and 1 turn of civil disorder isn't going to kill us at this stage (although obviously best to avoid it). It seems to have been a very good turn. I don't actually have my copy of vanilla civ3 around so can't look at the save, so I can't comment on the FP placement.

I fear, however, that I may be next up? In which case this is a got it. I have a hectic week ahead however, so we will see when I can play this. Hopefully tomorrow evening I should be able to get to it, leaving us 24 hours or so to discuss what to do next.

Wow, well done Mad. :goodjob: Like SHard said your 'mistakes' are nothing compared to the gains. The map is looking much better now. :) Good thinking about letting them declare. And you left SHard with more units then you had, great!
