Well, you got the first part right. The brigade was composed of the 2nd, 6th, and 7th Wisconsin Volunteers; the 19th Indiana Volunteers; and the 24th Michigan Volunteers. The only all-Western brigade in the Army of the Potomac, the soldiers wore the dress black hat of the regular army rather than the usual blue kepis.

The brigade suffered the highest percentage of soldiers killed in combat, and mostly on McPherson's Ridge at Gettysburg. On that day, they were commanded by Brig. Gen. Solomon Meredith, in the division of Brig. Gen. James Wadsworth, in the I Corps of Maj. Gen. John Reynolds; and after whose death at the beginning of battle, was replaced by Maj. Gen. Abner Doubleday as the senior division general.

Next question is yours AZ.

They sunk the greek warship (?) "Elli" in the Tenos harbour. Right Az?

May I join in with a question? Thank you.

So, question 31: What did Friedrich the great of Prussia do when he realized that his army has been defeated in the battle of Kolin (facing the Austrian army)?

This thread is definitely Greek territory. Still, if the Greeks are all smart enough to answer everyone else's questions then they're entitled to ask whatever questions they like. Shame I know nothing about Greek history (well, I don't know any facts - everything I know is myth).

in vino veritas

Friedrich II departed from his command post at Bedøichov hill, not transferring the command to anyone else. The war dragged on for six more years in Silesia. The peace treaty was signed in 1763. In the end, Maria Theresia lost Silesia and Friedrich II lost his fame as an unbeatable warrior.

That's all I know, you probably mean some detail like screaming: I have been beaten for the first time in my life! Save me God!

Well, of course it is about a "detail"... I shall give you another day to find it... it is a detail that shows what kind of a person Friedrich was...

Thomas Carlyle recounts the following about the day after the defeat at the Battle of Kolin...

To the young Graf von Anhalt, on the road to Nimburg, he [Friedrich] is recorded to have said, "Don't you know, then, that every man must have his reverses? It appears I am to have mine."
[...]
He surveyed with speechless feeling the small remnant of his Life-guard of Foot, favorite First Battalion; 1,000 strong yesterday morning, hardly 400 now; gone the others, in that furious Anti-Stampach outburst which ended the day's work! All soldiers of this chosen Battalion were personally known to him; their names, their age, native place, their history [the pick of his Ruppin regiment was the basis of it]: in one day, Death had mowed them down; they had fought like heroes, and it was for him that they had died. His eyes were visibly wet, down his face rolled silent tears."

Is this what you were looking for?

Actually, the answer I was looking for was about the immediate reaction of the hot-blooded Prussian leader after he saw the remnants of his army retreating.

He yelled something about "cowards" and then stormed against the Austrian lines ALL ALONE - luckily for him and Prussia some officer managed to stop him only a a few meters from the range of the Austrian muskets...

But Storm has give a good answer as well...

So who sets the next question? Or do you have another go Ubik?

...if nobody has a question, I could add #32 as well...

Ok, here it is: Question #32: This is about the Byzantine emperor Justinian - the man who tried to restore the Roman Empire in it's former glory (and succeeded to a point). Who was his greatest general (that's the easy one) and what did the emperor to him when he seemed to gain too much popularity among the plebes of Constantinupolis?

1763?
