Current least relevant region of the world?

What about Greenland? Most irrelevant place populated by humans.

Except it's melting, raising sea levels. Someday, we could lose Florida, Manhattan, Venice, the Maldives etc. etc. etc.

I think I'd vote for south South America: Bolivia, Paraguay, Uraguay, southwest Brazil, northern Chile, northern Argentina.

Tazmania?

Wut?

That's not what I'd describe as halfway between New Zealand and the South pole.

I'm pretty sure that the South Island of New Zealand is mostly south of Tasmania. Although 1,500 miles further east.

Tasmania 42 S.

South Island New Zealand, 45 S.

Yup.

Why stop there? Why not the exosphere? There's barely anything there and it doesn't do much other than exist. We've only gone there a handful of times and I doubt anyone would miss it if its gone.
I thought about it, but atoms and molecules there are so diffuse that they don't even behave as a gas, just as little isolated particles on ballistic trajectories. So I consider it more or less just outer space and not really worth considering.

The thermosphere is important though, since it's where most of the ionosphere is along with everything in low earth orbit. And it can reach well over 1000 K and hosts the auroras. It earns my respect. The rest of the upper atmosphere needs to get its act together.

I can, with hand on my heart, nominate Bulgaria (of course!) as the most unexciting place on this planet Earth.

Cod.

Now you might not like cod, but the UK consumes vast quantities of Icelandic cod.

I hate to point out the obvious, but you do know that Iceland and Greenland are not the same place, right? :)

Florida would be SUCH a tragic loss.

Although come to think of it, without it we might have more old people in the rest of the country, so maybe it does provide a valuable service as a dumping ground for those who have given up.

Just thinking geopolitically, is North America all that important? I mean, sure, the US government is important, but the actual geographic locality seems pretty unimportant. Probably because it's the least contested swathe of territory due to the strength of the US. Compare it to the South China Sea, for example, where disputes over territory are of high importance, and where countries are really jostling for position. The Philippine government, for example, may not loom large on the international stage, but the Philippines and surrounding areas are certainly a region of huge relevance to the world.

The Pacific Shore - borders Russia and China, although in that case allies like Japan and Taiwan are more important.

One big problem with this forum seems to be that people need a ton of details and goading to start a serious discussion. I don't know why I even bother sometimes.

Well, OK. But what is there to discuss here? What do you actually want to discuss?

I don't generally need any goading to get going, but I'm getting a grip on nothing, here. Various people have suggested various regions which are more or less irrelevant, but what is there for me to argue with about their suggestions?

What, on the other hand, is the current most relevant region of the world? The middle east maybe?

"Anything west of interstate 95, unless we're writing an article making fun of 'rednecks'"--Most US based media companies, probably.

Well, unless the US based media company is based in the civilized part of the US, which officially ends as soon as you can't reach the Pacific without going uphill.

Current almost always the least relevant region is central asian endless steppe.

"Almost" makes a big difference, though. Central Asian endless steppe contributed the domestication of horse, the invention of four-wheeled vehicle, most likely also the emergence of PIE language. These things are enough to make it the most important place in history at some point in the past.

But currently indeed Central Asia does not seem to be very relevant.

So, what is the 'least relevant' region of the US? :)

There's that uninhabited zone behind the eyes of every Senator and Congressman, of course.

(But maybe I'm being unjust. Maybe I should insert the word "most" in there somewhere.)

What about Greenland? Most irrelevant place populated by humans.
There's a little island between Greenland and Canada. Both Canada and Denmark want it. Neither is prepared to concede that the other has a reasonable claim to it.

What, on the other hand, is the current most relevant region of the world? The middle east maybe?
Relevance is relative, I should think. What may be relevant to you (general "you") may not be relevant at all to others.

Halfway between the surface and the bottom of the ocean.
