Current (SVN) development discussion thread

Has anyone managed to get the 20,000 culture requirement for Iran? Closest I got was c. 12,000 for Bagdat running 100% culture, whipping two cathedrals and the Globe. I could have done it with more GAs, but as all the good GP farm cities I conquered already had wonders I ended up getting a spare GProp and GE instead. So I could have made it to 18,000 but that would still have been a way short.

Imo having such a high culture requirement for Iran is a bad idea as achieving it is so random. Unless you get lucky and can capture a good GP farm that isn't full of contradictory wonders you are just praying you pop some GAs, or that you can build / capture a useful wonder (Borobodur would be perfect but it seems Korea always gets it). GAs are also pretty hard to get prior to Mass Media as you can only run two artists at once until you have the Globe.

Also, is there a fixed stability level that allows you to avoid the Egypt and Thailand spawns as Arabia and Khmer? Is so, what is it? It's always annoying when I think I'm just stable enough and then they pop right up and screw up my well constructed plans!

Is the current SVN version stable and no CTDs?

EDIT : Strange.. is the current revision 430? I think it's been weeks I haven't updated but it shows I'm on the latest revision :s

Yeah, the latest update was 18 days ago. I hope the reason for this is that he is working on something big.

Ah, I see. Then it's also safe to tell the following :

Byzantine's name stays as Byzantine people though I already built a glorious empire.

Hello Everyone,
I've had this issue and I wonder if anyone else has encountered it as well. The first goal is to have x number of buildings in the empire in turn 152. However, my game is checking this requirement in turn 148. Has the requirement been changed and the UHV goals have not been updated to reflect this, or is it a bug in the code?
Thanks for any help/suggestions you guys can offer.

Yes, I forgot to update the turn number. A fix is committed, sorry for the confusion.

The last commit was literally just the mentioned UP text fix.

It's really comfortable to simply port SoI features and make small adjustments :goodjob:

I'll commit soon. There's no AI for this yet (SoI doesn't seem to have one, strangely), so the other civs won't initiate trades on their own, but if you start them yourself it should work. I've also changed the system so that bought slaves appear right in the Americas for the AI.

Note: the screenshot is only a test, there'll be no slaves in the ancient/classical era.

:yeah:

But I suppose that's fair. Residual Slaves for Medieval civs on 3000 BC start could really mess up things.

Oh and please make Slaves remain under Mercantilism. There needs to be more incentives to run Mercantilism and this could be a good one.

I agree. Also perhaps slaves could be bought for gold under Mercantilism rather than drafted for pop? That way it's a choice between grabbing your own citizens off the street under FL, or paying citizens to grab people from elsewhere under Mercantilism. Not sure how easy that would be to implement tho'

Leoreth, would it be possible to increase Americas incentive to adopt democratic/free market civics? They usually end up as Empire of Columbia (probably due to happiness reasons), CSA (even as Lincoln) or United Socialist States of America :D (they love to research communism first).

USA more needs a new UP to settle this problem I think, probably something about happiness. The current is rather annoying when trying to limit city size and just provides for faster population growth in an already food rich area.

Also, the tweaks to make America's culture good are kind of scary. By the time I launched a Spaceship as Russia in 1970 (I wasn't careful enough about cities) they were about 300 culture in 1 city and about 600 in another from a cultural victory.

I've been saying this for ages.

The current UP is equal to a city growth speed modifier. Except you have no control over it via tile management.

The Power of the American Dream:
+ 1 Happiness per Specialist, and double Happiness from the Culture slider.

Happiness from the culture slider is a good idea. Or maybe even the gold slider.

Culture slider Happiness is related to your infrastructure (Theatre, Amphitheatre, Broadcast Tower) which I think is realistic, given America's entertainment industries. Happiness from Gold slider is not - well actually I don't know how you'd define Happiness from Gold slider.

Also I think America's Happiness problems is mostly in early game due to lack of luxuries/religion. Which is why I suggested Happiness from Specialists, since America starts with Mercantilism and builds the SoL early on.

So how about +1 Happiness per free specialist. And double Happiness from the Culture slider.

Meanwhile, if this new UP is adopted, I think Hollywood, Wembley, and Graceland should get Happiness bonus from the Culture slider (same values as a Theatre/Amphitheatre) to further synergize with this, but take the + Happiness bonus away from Mall and replace it with something else (1 free Merchant? +5 :gold:?).

Or move mall earlier. A case could be made for electricity.

Maybe the power of legislative appropriations: can rush with money no matter the civics and how much gold is in your treasury. :D

Happiness from gold slider for market and bank might work too. Mall could be moved to Electricity and buffed a little.

You've already changed it, but this suggestion would practically mean infinite happiness for America.
