Perhaps we should! Mongol civilization is depicted as collapsed to Indy Turpan and Kashgar, which represent short lived, but important Dzungar Khanate. I suspect, if Mongols ever respawn in modern era, they can use preplaced Kashgar and Turpan. Polynesians did not collapse in 1700 AD, they were in fact in the more advanced stages of their civilization compared to 1000 BC situation.

I thought I was giving a crazy example. I

Imo 1700 should best represent how the world looked like in 1700. Polynesia and Mongolia and were not civs on the scale that the other playable civs are.

It shouldn't include civs, just because they were important at a time outside the timeframe of the scenario

It shouldn't include any civs at all because they were important outside of the timefram of the scenario?

That comma bro. Breaks the meaning of the sentence. :(

Speaking of Mongolia, I support that there should be at least 1-2 cities in the Mongolian area in 1700, just so we don't get the atrocious picture of Korea settling there instead.

Sure. But (1) if 3000 BC USA will colonize Hawaii which, for example, has a Pop 1 city there, why should 600 or 1700 AD USA find no one there?
There isn't under standard settings.

We made a choice to represent Polynesian people with dedicated Polynesian civilization.
Nah.

we need to be consistent and have Pop 1 city on Easter Island with Moai Statues there on 1700 AD map.
Nah.

Hello,

I can't seem to download TortoiseSVN on my computer. Is there a chance perhaps that another program performing the same functions exists?

Regards

Nah.

Meh. Polynesian civilization does not represent people? How silly!

I was disagreeing with the causal relationship that you asserted.

I still feel that the "rebirth-mechanic" sometimes feel unfair.

In my current game as Indonesia I collapsed China, which left North Korea independent and then 2-3 turns later the Koreans respawn, expelling my units from Seoul/Hanoi (despite me being at solid stability) and they are even ahead of me in terms of techs.

Constantly losing your cities without any option to really prevent it (Congress, Rebirth) to civs that dont even have to research to be your superior really makes the industrial/modern era quite unfun imho.

edit:
also, is there any way to make conqueror-units spawn in non-jungle-tiles whenever possible? I had the Dutch troops spawn in Sukadana on the jungle-hill-tile instead of the grassland or banana (that are also right next to the city) and also at my capitol they prefered the jungle over the open land or even the iron-hill.
Dont really see a way of defeating them now (yeah I know I can attack them now, but with 50+% defense bonus on top of their advanced troops that even get a base-promotion that doesnt seem useful)

That should already happen actually.

yeah, well...it doesnt :D

the save is a few turns after their spawn, but they never moved, so...yeah they had other tiles available but still prefered the jungle (so would I, but it just makes it even harder to try to defend)

So, playing as Polynesia, it is apparent that you can settle a jungle island if it is only one tile big. Is this true? I think putting this somewhere would help inform people; has it always been like this?

No, it's a new feature. I have put a notification where I always put them, in the commit logs. Eventually it'll wind up in the civilopedia too, which I usually update around release.

this feature was introduced in the same patch that Polynesia was. So it is pretty new (and basically was implemented for them).

Hint: Impassable peaks dont count as land tiles, so an island consisting of 1 jungle-tile and one peak-tile is still a 1-land-tile that you can settle.

They don't get your techs, they get all techs discovered by enough civilizations in their own tech group.

Well, when China just respawned in my Indonesia-game they had all of my techs (I am techleader in Asia, though the Euros are ~2 ahead of me). When Korea did it in my last try they had all of mine and the one Japan had over me (but also the 3-5 I had over Japan).

So I guess "1" is "enough" for the Asian civs :(
or it is 2-3 and all the Euro civs are included in the tech group for Asia, since the only one who had Astro besides me where half of the Euro civs.

also Military Tradition is a tech that the AI never wants to trade it seems, probably because the Hermandir-Wonder is never built by anyone and they thus dont want to share the tech even if they lack the necessary religions to ever build it themselves, is that really intended? I've had civs wanting to trade me Scientific Method or Steel but still holding on to that one Oo

edit: managed to find 2 saves, the autosave should be from the turn before the respawn/turn of the respawn of China
