What do you guys think of the chances of Putin restoring the Russian Empire, and becoming Czar? It would actually make sense from a Historical prospective. He could, in effect, become Russia's Napoleon. After all, I have noticed that many in Russia have been basically begging that he stay on as "National leader". Would it be a stretch to imagine him restoring the title of Czar to himself?

Csars Czars Tsars and Tzars!

At very best he will make himself President for Life, but seriously doubt he will try to restore monarchy in Russia

I give him pretty good odds of becoming dictator in all but name. I highly doubt that he would take the official title of "Tsar", though.

I admit, it would be kind of cool if he did, though. In a "Russia is once against held beneath the boot of a tyrant" kind of way.

We can only hope the man is badass enough to pull it off.

Long the Tsar of Russia! Long Live the Romanovs! Long Live Maria Vladimirovna!

Restore the Monarchy! Irritate the communists! Bring back Serfdom!

I knew someone would bring her up. According to the Cossacks, Putin is the only person able to become Czar. ::Sigh:: It would be awesome if Russia became an empire again. I mean, wow. Well... it would be awesome for anyone outside of Russia not sharing a border with it.

Putin? Tsar? Thats just sick and wrong. Restore the proper bloodline! The Romanovs shall rule again

Vladimir has done some work consolidating the Federal government, and some of his methods/reforms have been quite extreme but...it all boils down to the 2008 elections.

I'd say that the probability of Putin suspending elections is roughly twice that of Bush doing the same. Of course, two times zero is still zero...

Putin would never take up the title of Czar\Tsar\Caeser. The Putins of this world take titles like "First Citizen."

Never happen. He'll probably become Prime Minister, quickly after the Duma gives it the exact same powers as the President.

Monarchy isn't very popular in Russia. It has been heavily demonized by the Communists, who depicted the previous regime as a sort of hell on Earth, obviously to cover the fact that their little hell was much worse.

Russia will stay republican, if you can say that about authoritarian form of government, where the state serves the ruler and his chosen few.
