Czechs to change their name?

Which name do you think sounds better in English?

It's already Tsjechië in Dutch (Pronounced as Czechiuh).

Note that the 'ch' part is pronounced as in Loch Ness. Also, isn't the German word Tschechien?

It concerns mostly the overt aspects of culture like architecture and cuisine, but also certain traits related to 'mentality'. Most of it stems from the long shared history of the countries that constitute central Europe.

19th century then. Carry on.

Whatever :pat: Do you live here?

I admit I was being a tad obtuse out of poor mood.

I live in Denmark. I had little issue with your idea overall, it's more of your wording of it. I apologize for being a poopieface.

BTW, the following picture highlights why any attempts to change the name of the country is futile (from today's Euronews webpage):

And I apologize for the condescending pat smiley ;)

Oh my G, Czechoslovakia is doomed!!!:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-24686257#

On the good side its nice to see that some people within BBC has finally come to notice that Czech Republic lies in CENTRAL Europe.

Yeah, the trick is to apply steady pressure and make it look like that if they use the wrong term, it's racist. Works every time ;) If Czechs weren't white, BBC would be all over itself to use the PC term.

Have you guys considered something totally radical? I bet if you changed your name to Thessaly, that would get noticed. The Greeks would throw a fit and that would help new name recognition. You might have to go through a transitional phase where you're known as FCROC (Former Czech Republic of Czechia.)

^Uh, i already proposed that Czechia gets renamed to Macedonia.

Don't confuse them with that Fyromanic country of proto-slavs (who iirc now also want to be regarded as Byzantines. :) ).

But Macedonia is already a legitimate independent country. That's why I suggested Thessaly.

It's a bit like Dutch people insisting that the word 'neerlandés' be used in Spanish instead of 'holandés'.

But Czechia isn't really in Thessaly. Maybe we could arrange for a migration, the Czechs could use the better climate…

But 'Neerlandia' doesn't exist in Spanish. It's an exonym Spanish-speakers have used for centuries.

No matter how much you might want the EU to collapse - which makes sense, since the subsequent destruction of Greece would help the Golden Dawn take power - it's not going to.
Moderator Action: Enough is enough Lord Baal; you keep dragging the Golden Dawn into things relevant or not and it is time to stop. You have made your point. Please move along.

You don't say...

Los Paisos Bajos?

Does the speaking of Spanish inflict some sort of neurological damage upon the human brain, that it renders people unable to learn new words?

(Los) Países Bajos.
And in that case we would say 'paisbajense'.

No. But why don't you say 'Nederlander' instead of 'Dutch', 'Suomi' instead of 'Finland', etc. etc. Every country has exonyms!
