HTTP is the various browsers, right?

It indicates any internet connection over HTTP protocol that is not associated with any specific application.
This means mostly Browsers, but not only them.

SSL is the same as above but encrypted (HTTPS in other words).

What is important to notice is that in more advanced markets the incidence of bit-torrent is decreasing.
When people gets easy to use and honestly priced services for media consumption (Netflix, spotify, etc.) people stops using bit-torrent.
If the stats was divided between European countries with those services and countries without them the trend would be much more visible.

I am trying to work out the cause of the difference between the upstream and downstream numbers. Youtube is 7.5% upstream / 24% downstream in Europe and 0% upstream / 29% downstream in Asia. So I guess this means that there are some youtube servers in europe, but most of the content comes from the US servers, and there are no youtube servers in asia, despite this accounting for 3 out of every 10 internet packets!!!

So the Iberian Mediterranean coast is among the highest growth regions in Europe? go figure.

I might be wrong but I think that's essentially urbanization - when I lived in Poland 20+ years ago, a lot of people still lived on farms and ate beets and stuff. My very own grandfather had his farm torn down and an apartment building built in its place 10 years ago or so - got a free apartment for life out of it.

I think the stat was.. 50% or something close to it of the country was still rural. I guess that's changing rather quickly, with all that EU cash and the economy doing so well (relatively speaking) and all.

That seems to make the most sense. Goddamnit, Globe and Mail, leaving that out...

Anyway,
