My gf will have a medical conference in Dallas, hotels and flights and very thing paid for, for 2. We decided to take this as a cheap vacation, I have never been to any place in the South except Florida anyways.. Any info about good places to have fun in Dallas is welcomed. By the way, is Dallas a safe city to hang around?

Texas Stadium :p

Besides that, I don't know. I haven't been able to go yet.

Was there once on a business trip. Time was limited so all I ended up doing was going to see the Kennedy related stuff. Otherwise, didn't seem like there was much else to do around there really.

You know what? I'm on a Dallas Cowboys forum. If you want I could try asking them, or I can give you the link to join so you can ask. Let me know by pm, if you do.

That is one of the things that I miss from Europe. European cities have so much to see and places worth to visit. But in the USA distances are so big and history is not so long that it is difficult to find places to visit and time to spend to visit them.

i have been in Chicago and Boston, and their musseums are very good, thought.

So that's it? Dallas is a boring stupid city? not much fun to be had?

Well Forth Worth has some wild west tourist town stuff. Big steers, some stores etc. Nice place but thats about it. Plus it takes an hour or two to get there from Dallas (I think, not sure).

That's it? That is too bad. I am considering not going.

I don't think many people here are from the Dallas area.

I live in a suburb just east of Dallas...

The sixth floor museum is great if you’re into JFK stuff

If you go to Dallas soon you could go to the State Fair of Texas, although the surrounding neighborhood is a little rough. You could also catch a cowboy game (although they play in a suburb slightly to the west of Dallas called Irving) or a stars game.

Six Flags-Over Texas is okay if you do not mind going to Arlington.

However, avoid the West End (nothing interesting is there except a few restaurants). One more thing, avoid the Interstate on weekdays if at all possible... Dallas has some of the worst traffic in America.

I wish I could tell you more but since I live around here I never bothered to look into this sort of stuff. I sure if you look around online you might find out more.

I went there. Dallas is a boring ugly city imo.

You are 100% correct. I lived there, there's nothing to do as a tourist, and I mean nothing. Unless, of course, you're a sports fan, and your team will be visiting at the same time you are. This is unlikely, so there's nothing to do. Nothing. Houston and San Antonio, on the other hand, have enough to fill a few days, those are far better places to go (even though most of both of those places are a complete and total ****hole).

I was in Dallas once on business. Checked out the place where Kennedy got shot. And that was about it. It seemed like the city went dead after 8PM (it was a weekday). Didn't seem like there was much to do. :(

i thought dallas was supposed to have some of the best resteraunts in america?

 San Antonio has some great Mexican food, but if really good food or fine dining is your goal, you had better give Texas a miss- by a mile.

i dunno...i ate pretty well when I went to Houston. Sure, it was no Chicago, which has the best food in america, but it beat ohio :)

Dallas has some pretty good barbecue as well as a few good Brazilian steakhouses. Basically anything that involves giant slabs of red meat is done well in Texas. Why are they having a medical conference there again?
